  1. imDex on Preserving Old Research Notes and Documents? · · Score: 3, Informative

Disclaimer: I used to work for this company as a coop student.

I would contact PRG Schultz as they have done this for large clients in the past. Hey have a program called imDex which is pretty slick. Basically, it's a searchable, cross-indexable database, so you'll have OCR'd text, along with TIFF's or PDF's of the documents. If you would like more information, let me know.

It's a python script that will put the person into the blocked category of hosts.allow after X number of failed attempts. I've installed it recently and it's done wonders.

We have placed 8th,6th, and 4th.

Just a correction Kev, we placed 8th in 2002, 5th in 2003, and 4th this year in 2004.

I do agree with your points, teams don't need lots of cash in order to compete with the big teams, although it helps. All you need is a strong driving platform and good ideas of how to do the various tasks.

I think that we were in a unique situation, being sponsored by an an automotive parts supplier and local greenhouses.

You've given your students an amazing head start with your program and you deserve congratulations for it. I wish I had such a program when I was in middle school.
Here is a listing of teams from Texas. There are a couple that look promising. There's one from Grand Prarie which has been in it for a few years, they look close to you and might answer questions. There is also a veteran team from Greenville, team 148 who have been in it since 1995. The best way to get into it is to phone them up or e-mail them and ask questions. They might let you stop by and check out the robot, or talk to you about the program. The other "best" way to get into it is to go to a regional, unfortunately, you just missed that national championships whcih were earlier this month in Houston. Seeing is believing. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me and I can try to answer.

And if a project like this goes well, like it did for our School, You could go on to even bigger challenges, like starting a FIRST team. My school started out with a LEGO robotics class when I was in grade 10, and then started FIRST when I was in 11 and 12. It's an awsome experience, but quite a large undertakeing. You would need a lot of support from teachers and then you have to go out and find companies that are willing to sponsor you, but you get to compete with a full size robot at competition and meet all sorts of people. I can't recomend it enough.

John Keker has agreed to represent the Russian programmer pro bono.

This means he will be representing Dmitry for free, so no one will be paying. This will also work out in Mr. Keker's favour as it can only make him more "high-profile" and popular.

Similarly, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is funded by the Canadian federal government. And, similarly, they've managed an impressive record of impartiality to our government's ineptitude.

The CBC can be very biased. They did absolutely everything in their power to hype the Stockwell Day thing. This is just an observation, I agree with everything else you say (especially about PM Poutine slashing funding).

I think the author makes a bit too much of the "bitter rivalry" between Ximian and Eazel. I also think he's right that few people will pay for Ximian or Eazel "services". I hope someone picks up Nautilus if Eazel goes down. It's a pretty good idea.
