While I dislike their general philospohy towards their users and products but I think they provide an important counterpoint to Microsoft. Steve Jobs for better or worse is the guiding light for Apple. I'm sure more than just Apple's investors and employees are hoping he comes back strong and sticks around for a good long time.
All the best Steve and good luck beating that thing you've got.
Agreed, I am and was definately in the beginner category, granted I had a plan to make an original map but I never managed to get around to it. I wanted to make a DoD:S map of Hitler's Bunker. Still think it would be freaking sweet but since I don't play either of them anymore it really wouldn't be worth my time.
I remember when I was making maps for CS:S many years ago having the source for one of the maps was awesome. Everyone liked dust but I wanted to add some variety and put a sewer and such in. It makes it real easy for someone to make variations of a fun map so it isn't the same thing every go round.
Hell I've been told by friends that still play CS:S there are variations of my maps still being played, which is kinda sad honestly.
That was one possible direction for my studies. I'm glad I didn't go that direction at all. My reasons were due to a personal desire to get out of school for a while but it makes me glad to know I didn't miss too much.
Safe was in regards to running out of resources. Hydro is very destructive as you mentioned, solar is extremely messy to make, wind is a bird blender, and I'm sure there will be some interesting negative side effects of using wave power.
Wow. Interesting, useful, and mildly disheartening information. No badge though cause you didn't use both absolute scales. Granted the difference between F and R (or C and K) at millions of degrees is silly.
How much more difficult using a H-H reaction would be instead of a D-D reation or a D-T reaction as is used currently? D is moderately abundant in the oceans (something like.015%). My math skills are very rustly after 5 years of not using them at all.
The idea of fusion and benefits of fusion are tremendous compared to fossil fuels but I've always wondered how long will it last before it starts eating a significant enough portion of the hydrogen to be a concern. (Or possibly when the helium concentration will become high enough to be a concern.) I imagine that we have enough reserves of hydrogen in the oceans it won't be a concern for many many many years to come but it is an interesting thought experiment.
Ultimately the only "safe" power sources are those that derive their energy from external sources such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, and wave power; all of which are powered by the sun's energy and/or gravitational interaction with outside sources (aka moon). Granted eventually the sun will run out of hydrogen and we won't be able to use it as an outside source of energy. As long as we're burning things that have a finite source in the closed system of the planet we'll eventually run out or pay some unforseen consequences (Global Warming).
Not exactly the largest concern when it comes to alternative power but still and interesting topic to think about.
They are wonderful most times of the year they're aren't clogged with snow. But honestly he sounds like he'd be more at home in a place like North Dakota where you can dig in and hide from people. Don't get me wrong I love being able to own guns and personally think that a militia is ineffective without modern weapons (the principle behind the 2nd ammendment) but some times people don't realize that shooting someone just makes a martyr.
I still find it strange that Canada considers itself an independent country and not a territory like Puerto Rico or Guam. What with letting our moronic politicians and corporations run your government for you. We're fighting too many fights right now, it's your chance to tell us to piss off.
This is more of the protectivist thought that has lead and is leading to the decline of these old school companies and allowing the growth of new companies to challenge and pick them apart.
These companies have the resources, man power, and product to dominate large portions of the media if they would only embrace it and adapt to it. Change is a scary thing for large organizations to take on, especially voluntarily.
The best part is the first thing they taught me when I started getting my MBA was that change was good and needed to be managed, not prevented. You would think these business types would eventually catch on.
Of course this is Sony, the Captain of the DHFB(Dead Horse Flogging Bandwagon).
And like most good ideas it depends on implementation. If the path to Good from Bad and vice versa are nontrivial actions then this stands to add a significant amount of replayablity to characters and personal attachment to a character.
A well thought out quest path that leads to the opposite faction with good story lines, moderately difficult to difficult quests, and tangible rewards can make this a tremendous addition to the game.
If NCSoft has made the path back and forth a toggle switch then it becomes just another piece of fluff that adds little or nothing to the actual game istelf.
Is it just me or was anyone else surprised that McAfee had any reputation or brand left to piggyback upon? I though McAfee was generally worse than most viruses...
I'm military currently, have a BS in Physics/Chem and the start of an MBA. I was looking towards the CIA as the next step in a career because a couple of their analyst positions had compelling descriptions. I would love having a had in helping make a business/unit more competitive. The us vs them thing just works for my motivation.
Thanks very much for the pointer. I'll check out SCIP especially after I get back stateside.
As someone who is interested in some of the Analyst jobs at the CIA what are the civilian equivalents?
I like the civilian meritocratic model better than the federal beaurocratic model for pay, benefits, and rewards but haven't found the same type of jobs available in the civilian market. This would interest me greatly and I would appreciate a responce here or in my email (this username at gmail).
I'm new to KDE so I may have the wrong of it but I have the konqueror file manager as an option...
I never used 3.5 for more passing fancies and couldn't stand 4.0. I gave 4.2 a shot with the kUbuntu beta and while there has been a learning curve, I haven't looked back at GNOME.
I fail to see the correlation of a growing population of gamers and many of those being attracted by party games and the death of hardcore games. Maybe it is because you are ignorant enough to think it is the game that makes you hardcore. A new gamer who plays party games in all their spare time is just as hardcore as someone else playing "Ultimate Blood Explosion 3" for the same time.

I'm suspecting you visited in the summer when it is suitable for human habitation. When things took a turn you got so cold you forgot your way home.
Dude.
Wow.
Nuclear Fusion! Finally a practical use!

So even if we double (projected to happen from 1980 to 2030) or triple our energy demands the answer is a damn long time.
While I knew helium floated to the top of the atmosphere and thats why it's expensive I was unaware it was lost to space so thank you for that tidbit.
Ok you can have that badge now.

More feature creep! More BLOAT! NOOOOO!!
Wait... Thats a good thing this time.

I see what you did there!
Personally I'd prefer woman things though.
