You got my number, almost. All the good games lately have been coming out for PS2, (okami, bully, godhand, ffxii). PC also has better versions of most of the stuff I am interested in playing on the 360. Plus I am way behind in my PC gaming so there is enough between it and the PS2 to keep me busy for probably the next year. With no really must-have games out for any of the new systems (I'll play Zelda on the GC for now) there is no need to rush out and get one. I want them all, and the amount of money they cost is meaningless to me. But without the games they are useless anyway, so why participate in the fight to get one? Wait to see how things shake out over the next 6mo to 1yr.

It is actually nice to ride the backside of the wave. Stuff gets cheaper and higher quality. Early next year 360 will get a new revision with smaller (cooler) chips. I also expect (hope) that they start shipping with a bigger hard drive rather than lower the price. Patience in this area is like money in the bank. That other crap will still be there whenever you get around to it. So if little Toby is whining about PS3 this Christmas slap him upside his head and give hime Guitar Hero 2 for the PS2 he already has. PS2 might be the "winner" this Christmas as the new consoles are unavailable or seen as too expensive.

It may be impossible to steal intellectual property. But when someone copies something against the will of the copyright owner they have taken from the owner his ability to control how, who, when, where that something is copied. If he doesn't have that control over his IP then it seems like he has lost his copyright on it, (not the piece of paper that says he has it, but it). That seems kind of like theft.

Good enough graphics are fine. Good enough control is not. I don't care how innovative a controller is if it doesn't provide accurate control. I am not going to make any assumptions. I'll just wait to try it first. Thing is, everyone I have read in this thread is simply assuming the controller works as advertised.

I am a master gamer (worship me now), and what it all comes down to is how well the controller works. Is it accurate to my motions? Do I get enough feedback from actions? Can I tell where I am aiming? The verdict is still out in my book. Go to IGN and watch their 20 minute long demo of the thing. It looks a bit shaky, but it could be partially that the guy demoing it is a dolt. If it works good, not just sort of, then I am all over it, graphics be damned.

  11. Outcast on Chip Promises AI Performance in Games · · Score: 1

Your post reminded me of the game Outcast which is voxel based. The game is both ugly in a blurry pixelated way and beautiful in a geometric way. Unfortunately they limited the maximum resolution to the hardware capabilities at the time the game came out. Current hardware could play it at much higher resolution and it would still run smoothly and look a lot better. The game itself is not to be missed IMHO, though many will be turned off by the blurry graphics. If you can look past that you can see a real beauty to the voxel landscapes.

Unfortunately being able to talk big, bend the truth, and tout a big image often gets you a lot farther than being quiet and humble and actually doing something of substance. Romero is like all the slimey marketing people I have ever run into in business, promise big to get the sale and then blame everything and everyone else for the inevitable failure. What annoys me is that for some unfathomable reason these types continue to get away with it. There always seems to be some idiot standing in line to give them another blank check.
