So to be able to play the latest multiplayer shooters I need Vista Live Gold or Xbox Live Gold? Anyway Microsoft can in fact do this since most game developers have already married Microsoft and have no plans on getting divorced. The future looks just cruel:(
I have a Xbox 360 today, but I've only tried the trials of arcade demos, and yeah some games are really fun but NO WAY WORTH $5-10 today. There are so many other free great alternatives. And I'm not willing to pay to play versus people on Xbox Live. I have enough great and free multiplayer games on my PC. Heck Gears of Wars multiplayer is far from as fun as good ol UT. The problem with the Xbox 360 is the lack of good single player games! I don't care at all being able to frag my friends over Live. It's way more fun playing Guitar Hero together in the same room. That is what I call social gaming. Not sitting alone in the darkness with your virtual friends.
Forcing customers to pay for playing multiplayer games on the PC will only increase piracy and illegal gaming networks ala http://www.pvpgn.org/(Battle.Net)!
When XP runs webbrowsing, email and office just fine and without any bluescreens I don't really see why... The reason XP became a success was because it was a lot more stable platform than Win98. Sure there was Windows 2000 however when XP shipped most drivers were already very mature and XP got a very good reputation from the start.
However 2007 will be the year of Linux;)
Yeah it's great! And free!:D
One day this will replace 3DSMax and Maya everywhere! It's a pity that I still have to use (and pay for) software like Photoshop to get max performance out of Blender. GIMP is still just horrible. It's like programming in vi. Work's fine, but it can be a bit painful in the long run. Hopefully Krita will give Photoshop some real competition soon.
I agree. The only ones who will play games on Vista is those with money for new hardware and OS. There have not been many great games for the PC compared to the consoles in the last years. This is due to the extreme piracy on the PC platform and WoW which own the PC market alone. I'll still play on my consoles and pick up a few of the upcoming games for the PC as long as they can run on XP/Linux and DX9 hardware.
Why can't someone use the same technology as those Linux Live CD's for games? Just put in a CD and start playing. No need for Vista, and yet they should have a chance to use a very effective copy protection which doesn't hurt those who are honest. Oh no I forgot, they still save more money by developing it on a Windows platform. Piracy doesn't hurt them enough.
I have a Core Duo laptop with GMA 950 (or is it 945?) and I can confirm that in *cough*.... Wintendo it has fast enough 3D acceleration. I've not tried 3DMark, however I can play Quake 4 at low settings perfectly smooth with an average of 30 frames per second(I belive it's most likely because of it's exellent support for two cpu cores). Today I have two games that I usually play on this laptop. This is Warcraft 3 which runs smooth as silk(that means at least 60 frames per second) and Civilization 4 which is a bit slow(like 15 fps), but fully playable.
In Linux/Ubuntu I can't play a single 3D accelerated game fine at all, though some of the 3D screensavers seems to work fine.
Isn't it already too late to save the world? Honestly I think it's better that we instead invest the money in future projects where we will have a chance to actually live in a new ice age. Or in worst case scenario we could colonize the moon.
I'm very happy with developing small games for the Linux platform. SDL is just perfect to write a game that works on Linux, Windows, Windows CE, BeOS, MacOS, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, BSD/OS, Solaris, IRIX, and QNX. And unofficially supports AmigaOS, Dreamcast, Atari, AIX, OSF/Tru64, RISC OS, SymbianOS, and OS/2(Copied and pasted from libsdl.org).
Additionally OpenGL actually supports software rendering so a GPU isn't exactly needed. Super Mario 64 shouldn't have a problem running in software on a Cell.
With some skills in googling one can find superb tutorials of how to make a pong game in just a few hours. Of course it's required that you understand the basics of programming. But the great thing about this is that you can actually make games that everyone can play. A lot of users will think XNA is great just because they don't know about the alternatives or think the alternatives just suck.
The market in Africa is mine, because my games works perfect with One Laptop Per Child PC's for $100 =)
Resident Evil 4 is better than Gears og War IMO

Gears of War Review

I had great fun with Gears of War. But I felt Resident Evil 4 was much better. Resident Evil 4 didn't even let you relax @ cutscenes. Resident Evil 4 had more challenging boss figts and at least a complete story(which sucked, but didnt leave you with annoying questions).
If I compare those two games I would say RE4 is a bit better and more fun.
What is Viacom? I can't google it...

A very common cowboy language use === because you have to tell that the variables is of equal types.....

That is what first time PC users do, second time they ask for advice about a stable OS.

I just found a good list here http://www.tech-edv.co.at/lunix/CADlinks.html
Here are some cad applications that works in Linux, two of them are commercial though. http://www.qcad.org/ http://varicad.com/ http://www.cycas.de/
This is forcing a small almost non existing industry to another country.

Me and an old friend had a great time with this game. It's a game that test your friendship, how mean can you be with your friend? :p
I could live with this color!
