    Calling people poorly educated isn't in itself mocking or insulting them.

    Shit, acknowledging that the education system has let down many people isn't a bad thing. Treating people well even when they're not well educated isn't a bad thing. Treating people as capable of self determination irrespective of their education isn't a bad thing.

    Actually, lets cut this short. You tell me how he insulted or mocked them.

    The cult developed long before he quit Microsoft and started the benevolence.

    Gates has been long celebrated as the epitomy of the American dream. Look, work hard, build a company (erm, and illegally exploit a monopoly, fuck over your customers, damage an industry, cheat on your partners, etc) and you too can become the world's richest man.

    The reason he never drew the hatred and ire is because he didn't grandstand, doesn't promote himself in public, doesn't make himself the central focus of everything. He built a brand and a company that was successful, and people associated the shit stuff with the brand and not the person.

    Judging this guy on how he acquired DOS and early business practices in the budding PC industry is a joke compared to his overall contributions in life.

    No, fuck that. Giving away money you earned through unethical practices and that you don't need to maintain your life of utter luxury does not justify the shit you did to acquire it.

    Financial self control has fuck all to do with social or wealth inequality. Almost nobody is in actual poverty, and there are plenty of safety nets for those that are - even in the US.

    Nobody is set up to fail. The US, Europe and vast tracts of the rest of the world put substantial resources into assuring that people get a good education and the basic skills needed to work for a living - for themselves, should they choose.

    Some people are too fucking stupid to learn. Some people are too fucking lazy. Some people just want to blame the 1% for all their woes.

    The rest of us manage our finances and don't get our car repossessed.

    Managing your own finances is a basic skill that people should learn.

    If your kid can't work out how to cross town without a car of her own then she's fucked for life. You wont be there to throw money at the problem for the next 80 years.

    If I can't afford a 1 year old low mileage car then I'll buy a 5 year old high mileage car or a fucking bicycle. If I can afford a 1 year old low mileage car through a loan, then have a change in circumstances that means I can't repay the loan, I'll negotiate with the loan company, look for options, maybe even sell the fucking car.

    It's not hard, but I guess your daughter isn't learning these lessons. Top fucking parenting.

    Nope. No ID card necessary to buy an apartment in the UK.
    No ID card necessary to get a hotel room in the UK.

    I know, I've done both.

    Not sure about renting an apartment, haven't tried that. Certainly didn't need an ID card to rent a single room in a shared house though.

    So unless you are homeless, it's papers please.

    Maybe we're talking about a different UK. I'm referring to the British Isles, which one are you thinking of?

    Given the prevalence of false accusations in divorce cases and 'arrest the man' policies in domestic violence situations (even where he's the victim) even that use of the arrest record is flawed, wrong and should not be happening.

    When it comes to using technology to subvert the education system it's always safe to assume the children know a fuck of a lot more than the teachers.

    At a school you'll have maybe three teachers that have the background, interest and skills to look into this shit. You'll have 300 children, and once one knows, they all know.

    That's the thing about schools, they're full of people that when appropriately motivated are fucking good at learning things.

    There's no such fucking language.

    In the UK we speak English. Unless you're speaking scouser, brummie, geordie, etc. In India they speak English but it's got very little grammar in common with English. In Canada they speak English but with a funny accent and some new words. In New Zealand they speak English but differently. In Australia they speak English and add new swear words (then cheat at cricket). In Kenya they speak English and are jolly nice too. In South Africa they speak English and kill each other.

    There is no fucking British Empire English.

    The gargantuan multibillionaire company can help the homeless in Seattle far more effectively by moving entirely out of the city.

    There'd be a massive housing surplus.

    Except, of course, Seattle would lose a significant part of its income, a lot of people would lose jobs and fail to make mortgage payments (or rent) so there'd be more demand for low cost housing and less ability to fund it. Maybe homelessness would rise.

    Face it, large companies come with economic benefits for the areas in which their workforces live. Cities offer tax incentives to attract them. Why wouldn't Amazon question the business value in basing themselves in a city that treats them badly?
