  3. Re:Email Script on Dilbert Goes Flash, Readers Revolt · · Score: 1

Thanks for the response; it made me dig deeper. I set the "summary only" option on the subscription, and to my surprise I saw, not some lame message (as I fully expected), but the cartoon , the whole cartoon, and nothing but the cartoon! Without that option, I was seeing roughly what you'd see if you visited http://dilbert.com./

  4. Re:Email Script on Dilbert Goes Flash, Readers Revolt · · Score: 1

    Good suggestion -- it's a worthy alternative.

    The main reason why not:

    1. Habit (read "too stupid to think of it"). When I first "subscribed" years ago, there was no feed. When it came time to tweak it (as I had to in 2006) I didn't even consider looking for that option.

Now that I checked it out, here's reason #2:

    2. I don't like it for the same reason I don't just visit the home page: I don't want all the other junk they include with it. A small, simple picture is welcome, particularly if I choose to read it on a handheld device; the rest of it isn't.

  5. Email Script on Dilbert Goes Flash, Readers Revolt · · Score: 1

Oh good! I can make my email script work again, so the strip is delivered to me every morning. I thought I was going to be lonely!

  6. What's the return rate? on Linux PCs Discontinued at Wal-Mart Stores · · Score: 1

Maybe they sold a lot in the store, but how many were returned by people who didn't even read the packaging, or when their friend's pirated copy of some Windows app wouldn't install on their system, and their friend said "Dude, you got ripped off."

Online retailers have always had an edge over brick-n-mortar stores in terms of customer satisfaction. Why? Because the average intelligence (or at least knowledge) of the online buyer is way above that of the person who walks into CompUSA to buy one. (Okay, can't use that one anymore; if you try to walk into a CompUSA building today expecting to buy one, chances are good that you're REALLY lacking intelligence!)

Still significant, but nothing to cause you to spend big bucks to cool it 2 degrees.
