But using Firefox was very fine (2.x series) as long as the websites did not have flash on them or heavy JS like slashdot. Basic usage was fine with those machine but the quality of screen resolution made it worse.

P133Mhz computer is fine with over 96Mb RAM when needing just simple writer computer. But I would just buy so cheap computer as possible under 100$ somewhere and push for such over 1Ghz computer same system and it would FLY!

So only way to get such computer is to buy it with Windows. Even that I never booted Windows but throw right in the mandriva disk and installed it over windows.

It is not nice to be forced to be MS client in statics but not a client for Linux OS. At least Mandriva could get their own static about me because I registered this machine too for their database.

They don't want MS to go and say "Well we implemented some of the standard, but changed it in ways we like." So MS has been sticking strictly to the standard. Not all the other implementations do. So, you get a difference in results. Now you can argue that the right way of doing things is everyone else doing the same thing, even if it isn't the standard, but that really isn't an option for MS. They need the CYA ability to say "We implemented the standard 100% to spec, no deviation."

I think many has left the old record playing around on this case now.

    a) Microsoft did implent the stable ODF standard.

    c) Other softwares, including OpenOffice.org includes and uses ODF 1.2 draft version what might need fixing a lot, so the compatibility between 1.2 draft and 1.2 stable gets broken.

We should always stick on the standard and develop the standard on test versions of the software while the stable software always use only the accepted standard. Otherwise I do not see any reasons to follow standards if we do not follow it after all we demand Microsoft to follow it!

And I dont care about OpenOffice.org being open source, even that I use it daily purposes and I develope open software myself. It just does not make it correct action to push draft version to end users.

Just develop the 1.2 version faster and well and then take it to use and push new version of Openoffice.org to endusers where is the 1.2 final and not draft used.

But if you drive 50km/h and 20 meter away from leading car, you do not manage react the sudden brake and you hit the car.

The speed change, your reaction time does not and you should keep distance x meter where x is same as your speed in km/h. That is the thumbrule to avoid crashes.

Faster you drive, less time you have time to notice small things what can cause accidents.

Faster you drive, smaller wheeling actions causes the car start acting way how you loose the control of the vehicle and it turns just to be a big giant metal junk what rolls.

Faster you drive, more momentum is reserved to your car and more dificult it is to get stopped.
And when there comes water/snow/ice/sand between road and your car tiers, more harder it is to get that car stop.

So go a head and be stupid and drive faster, you do not only risk your life but all others as well.

The cause of almost all problems is the speed.
The speed need to be relative correct to every situation, weather, other cars, distance and even for your tires and the cars weight.

Only way to get better results is to lower the speed.

There is three things what everyone can think on different situations. What happens when you 1) lower the speed 2) you keep current speed 3) you accelerate for higer speed.

The speed is the main problem, not just the distance. Distance is problem only on some situations, speed is almost on everyone, it includes city, highway and almost all. When you are driving in the city, you are moving among walking people, cycling people, running people, childrens, deaf people, blind people, injured people and all kind other possibilities where other people just does not notice the car and the driver do not notice things outside of the car.

And I hope you can say how the most common cause danger to accident on highways is the safety distance to next car, when in front of you jumps the moose or rabbit or any other animal and you get panic and you try to avoid it and.... yeah... the distance really saved your life when your car is trashed to tree, next line car or you have droved car few times around.

Mandriva is a KDE distribution. Altough the KDE does not get more attention than GNOME. Both are very well supported and if weighted Ubuntu and Mandriva with KDE and GNOME support, Mandriva wins, because of Kubuntu quality.

And Mandriva takes the security very seriously and use root account correctly. It use sudo too, but it is used just how it should be used, to defined a specific permissions for specific users and only for specific tasks. It does not make the same idiotic act like canonical with sudo using it wrong, by making first user almost exactly as root user.

Sudo was never meant to be a root replacement. It was meant to allow root to give specific people a specific rights for system settings, while root could do still all things and manage all sudoers.

Now Ubuntu is terrible in security. It teach wrong idea that user should have one password only, what is most likely to be a very short/dictionary word what is easy to hack. And the username ain't hard to quess. By default Ubuntu place username as the users first name. Social hacking is just too easy.

I have got inside of most Ubuntu users computer just by using their first name and quessing few times their password, from very typical sources (birthdays, midlename, school, mother/fater name etc) and it's done.

And usually you can even get the password by asking them (hey, usually they are your friends and clients!) and while they give you their userpassword, you get the root password on same time and you can do what ever you want.

No one of many Linux users who understands the root/user difference, has not gaved to me the root password when I have asked that. I have got the user password but never the root. They understands THE root password is needed to keep in their self and not any one else.

Ubuntu is coming more and more samekind like Windows. Most users are from windows and that's the reason why Ubuntu teaches wrong and unwise security for it's users.

You can even now found out on Ubuntu forums in small periods commands for helps what does something "evil" to executers computer. Normal Ubuntu users does not think much what they type to the commandline, it is just 'sudo this' and 'sudo that' and there we go...

I have seen so many normal users to type all commands on commandline with sudo. The sudo comes to their typical prefix for all commands, even when they really dont need to use it!

Ubuntu's one good security is that there ain't services listening network. But same thing goes for other distributions. They have firewalls and disabled connections and especially root logins etc. Ubuntu ain't on special situation on that either.

When comparing Ubuntu for other distributions what takes security wery sesiously, they are almost bottom of line. Only distributions what only runs all software as root, are below Ubuntu...

We could argue how much we want about sudo vs root. But we can not argue about how Ubuntu is using sudo by wrong way. Or we can not argue how Ubuntu teaches for new users the totally wrong password usage. And not the correct one where you need to have different passwords for different places and usually even different usernames.

Ubuntu is trying to get there where the window is low... that just means the thief's are getting inside always sooner or later because of that.

Even Microsoft has learn since Windows Vista that computer need to have at least two passwords, one for user and one for Admin.
