I tought that good guys dont attack against web pages but bad guys does. It's just a sad thing when Bill Gates and Linus Torvalds as Hackers, works as criminals!
(or mayby it's just that someone dont know what difference is with a Cracker and a Hacker!!!)
Why Opera Sync what you mentioned, remind me about years old firefox plugin what stores bookmarks, password etc and you can sync them with all PC's what have that plugin, oh and that google sync plugin too....
Oh yeah, even Opera did bring sync option later than other browsers, it's better because it's built in;-)
Okay, it seems that my country is only country in a world what is running GNU/Linux on it's schools, ministry, home computers etc etc.
That 1% amount is just JOKE!:-DDDDD
If i convert my PC's to windows, GNU/Linux market share might drop under 0.55%;-)
Okay, so Microsoft tells that GNU/Linux (or is it just Linux?) has 253 (?) Microsoft patents and companies should pay for Microsoft for using that technology.
BUT, Microsoft pays for Novell big amount of cash and it looks so silly, like Microsoft would be the one who is using 253 ideas of technology and is paying for those companies for using it;-)
If they dont stop using monopoly for advance and supporting open standards, they get big enemies like EU.
Microsoft would stay biggest software company if they would work together with industry, open standards and support competitors (Opera, Firefox, Openoffice.org etc) by ripping browser and mediaplayer off from OS (why OS should have red eye remover and music library?) so users can use what they want. Microsoft could install IE and WMP and other tools if they want to non-OEM windows version, but should allow OEM manufactures and end-users to remove them and install something else if wanted. Of course this would mean that Microsoft should start innovating and building better products and not just one big package what some people calls "OS", even it is more than just OS.
GNU/Linux and different distributions from it what includes different desktops and applications, isn't biggest enemy, yet! But it is big wheel what can turn MS weapons against MS itself.
"KDE is the only reasonable X window manager for me"
Just for confirmation.....
KDE is desktop environment and Kwin is KDE's own window manager. KDE can use any window manager for it's purpose, even Metacity what is Gnome desktop environments window manager. You can even use Kwin as Gnome window manager if you want.
Compiz-fusion is only a windowmanager and Gnome/KDE/etc can use it. Desktop Environment needs a Window manager but desktop environment isn't needed to window manager.
KDE, Gnome and XFCE are currently available desktop managers and there are few dozens different window managers what you can use with those.
http://qt-apps.org/ Just run those on any OS what you want, they run on GNU/Linux and on MacOSX or Windows.
KDE4 will come multi-platform because it use Qt4 and you can port those for any other OS too and not just GNU/Linux or it's distros. It just seems that whole KDE4 cannot be run top of windows (to replace windows explorer, shell and few other) but it applications can be runned.
So with KDE4, Amarok and Koffice (+ other great apps) will come to windows OS's and for MacOSX's etc. There is no need to use GTK for multiplatform anymore when you can use Qt to get nice and powerfull application. Qt4 even includes Phonon and few other KDE4 hardware parts so video and sound can be played wihtout need what multimediaplayer or OS is under, windows, macosx or GNU/Linux!
KDE4 starts KDE 4.x series and it isn't in that condition that everyone could use it like they can use KDE 3.5 on it current state. So, then when KDE 4.1 comes, it should be then in state it is good for anyone. Now when in few weeks KDE4 comes out, it is mostly for application developers and users who knows how to submit wishes and use KDE3.x applications in KDE4 too etc.
LTS support didnt come to kubuntu because KDE 3.5.x series support will be ended before LTS support and KDE4 isn't in shape it could be supported time what LTS needs. So, Kubuntu dont get LTS support, mayby next time when LTS version is coming from ubuntu.
But for those whole like to have supported KDE, can turn for other distributions like Mandriva, SUSE etc.
(im not developer but this info i have got from KDE blogs and it is UOM)
"So when is Sun going to turn control of ODF over to a standards body?"
SUN does not have more control to ODF than any other has. Any corporation or group can join to OASIS and have "voice" there. Bring up questions about new ideas and what is wrong and get those solved.
Even Koffice same control to ODF than SUN does.
OASIS controls ODF and OASIS is controlled by many corporations and goverments etc. No one can push ODF to way what they like.
Yes, Canonical is free to continue use Gnome 2.20.0 version if they dont like Gnome 2.20.2 version and still have all other packages updated. Or keep any other package on version what it is currently and update any other.
Then there is problem if users want use something what needs Gnome 2.20.2 and Ubuntu comes only with 2.20.0. Users need to update Gnome or those parts what is needed to get what they need. Still they have Ubuntu;)
"I think the current releases from three OS vendors suck right now: Vista, Leopard, and Gutsy."
You mean Microsoft and Apple?
Canonical dont make own OS, they use GNU/Linux and package it to one form to give users what they want or canonical thinks they need.
Microsoft has own OS, Vista and XP (now) and Apple has own too Tiger and Leopard. Canonical just have GNU/Linux and own distribution from it.
Canonical cant control what kind version Gnome comes out because they dont own Gnome, they cant control what kind kernel there is coming out, because they dont own Linux and they cant control what kind status Debian unstable branche is because they dont own Debian development.
Apple and Microsoft is simple controlling all these because they own them and they are their own OS system what comes with few their applications.
Canonical just dont own Ubuntu anyway, just it brand 'Ubuntu' and what Ubuntu can control, is what packages they take from 'GNU/Linux world'.
Yes, Ubuntu is OS but it's not different OS for other distributions like Vista is for Leopard. Ubuntu is different OS for Vista and Leopard but it is same OS for SUSE and Debian. Unless you can proof that exm. Firefox is needed to build with Ubuntu support in it to get it work or Gnome is Ubuntus own desktop and you cant install anything outside of Ubuntu repositories (exm from source) etc etc?
"GNU/Linux is the kernel, everything else is just userland apps that run on top of the kernel."
Linux IS THE kernel. GNU is THE OS "layer". GNU+Linux gives you OS and everything else (Xorg, KDE, Gnome, Thunderbird, Firefox etc etc) is just userland apps what run top of the OS
Have you used that watch? I have and it has very nice apps on it. It's not just digital watch what works with Linux.
I remember when i got -95 or -96 digital watch what had small keyboard and allowed to write things and send IR signals to other IR machines like television or phone. And then control them like starting VCR recording or change TV channel.
Same kind functionality is on that watch.
You should try to install windows kernel to watch first. Atleast Windows 7 kernel will not be there;)
You are already late, year of Linux on desktop was 2005. Now it is just growing bigger. Unless you mean that "Year of Linux" is when it has 50% market share, then you would be silly.
Since KDE 3.2.x time GNU/Linux has be very easy to use by normal user. So easy that XP is even harder to new user to learn.
Or if you still want keep this stupid "year of linux" statement, i can start having new one, 'Was 2008 year of Windows when Vista will came to desktops?"
There is no "Year of Linux on desktop" and there will not be such because there cant be "year of X on desktops" because it means only that when stupid people is yelling out and loud their own stupidy.
"Once there is an entry (or entries) in the sudoers file, the user uses their own password when asked. The primary purpose of the sudo program is to allow root permissions to another user or group without giving them the root password. A secondary purpose is to log who did what as root in case of a system problem caused by an errant user."
Yes, that is correct but because there is no root password, there is no way to hide it. Users use own and same password almoust everywhere. If root password would be forced to be over 14 letter and have a-z A-Z !-= and 0-9 numbers in it, it would be much more secure than sudo.
I know that only first user gets sudo but how many users still have more than ONE account on their PC? I havent seen any of new ubuntu users to have more than one and if there is more, they go for "normal users" who just like to surf on web. And then these new first time users have root access even they dont know what difference is between root and normal account because they come from windows OS.
It would be very stupid to have all sudo rigts on every user who gets added to system. But there is so much problems (other than just security) with non-root distribution.
There is big difference with sudo and root accounts.
Every Ubuntu user gets ROOT rights, even they dont know what is difference between super account (root) and normal account. Ubuntu just gives permits to user rule everything on machine what they dont even know, just some forum is tellin to do sudo .
There is big difference is application asking "Give root password" and "Give your password".
yes, it is easier to try to crack root account because we always know there is "root" account and sudo littlebit helps this by using username account what is difference. But how many use username other as own name? I might have Fri13_nextdoor and password as TryTOD0Th1S0N3_t0_M3 and it cant be hacked unless there is security flaw.
But user is always that weakest chain in security and giving normal user two password, one for own purpose and one for admin purpose, there is big difference wich one is needed when login or opening screen lock and when needed to open Mandriva Control Center or SUSE Yast.
And most users have same password on every webpage or same username. And forums even keeps track of IP. So it is easier to try first hack PHPBB to get passwords and then get IP and use just username and password to login that machine and crack it to own purpose.
It is better security to have root account and then ask for it over 14 letter password so most users normal "dad" passwords cannot be accepted for admin but for normal account yes for usability.
But better reason is to have just 14 letter password for normal account too.
Because XO idea was not bring OS wars and OEM wars to poor users. It was design to be one compact laptop so everyone can learn it fast and use it for better learning.
Now Microsoft and Intel crush there with own "competitor" product because they think there is "market" what they need to own. XO was not made for for-profit purpose, it was made for non-profit purpose.
If i would be Intel's or Microsoft chiefs mother or father who's son/daughter has got this idea to pring bad design machines for XO competitior, i would shame so much. But because they might be capitalist, they really cant understand what is giving help for poor people.
"He's also been a giant critic of the Russian administration which is increasingly restricting free speech."
And all U.S Citizens can come back to told that Russion speech is more restricted when they get own "free speech" to better state. U.S has biggest mediacontrol in world and same thing is happening all other countries unless someone starts keeping eye that there should not be bad news in every f*n news paper page or television news or webpage etc etc....
What really is restricting free mind and free speech is big news corporations and coverment

What happend to word "Cracker" and "Hacker"? Is he now a Hacker or Cracker? Few days ago was again news that how one hacker found thousands of servers without updates and firewall and he was hacker because he is security advisor and works for one company. So why this man is called as hacker too if he stoled information?
"But they want to stay with their window policy which is IMHO unusable for a image manipulation program."
IMHO Gimp UI is much more usable than Photoshops. There are little things what to add, or change like multiple objects of gimp in taskbar. Just one + pictures should be seen.
It's just too bad that windows WM sucks so badly that Gimp cant be used well there. MDI interface would be terrible because if you try Gimpshop and Gimp with Compiz-Fusion, you see that Gimp is much more powerfull.
Just more configs and options to gimp and it would be better, and that damn GEGL engine!
Okay, Many users has always blamed Gimp UI, i just love it because it is intuitive and very clear and does things how you exept them to be done. (Still it miss few great things like smart objects what came on CS3 and smart layers what came PS 7(?)).
Now many users need to wakeup to that fact, Photoshop UI is more terrible than Gimp. Because Gimp does not try to be UI for everyone and for every task. It just try to be good photomanipulation application. No 3D, No video and so on. (You can add those edits with plugins).
Now we need open brainstorm to get better UI for photoshop users like gimp has http://gimp-brainstorm.blogspot.com/ . To get ideas from new users and old users. Photoshop UI should change to be better. There are stupid ways to do things, like almoust every edit goes trough image > adjustments, EVEN it would be done for layer or for selection. On gimp, this is done via menu color or tools. Image menu always does what you exept to be done for image and layer to layer. You dont do something to layer via image menu. And Gimp is better because it does not mix image and canvas meaning.
Like if you open 3 pictures to same picture in photoshop, everyone has own layer. Why you need to still edit them as "image" when you edit layer (gimp edits it as layer) and you edit image as "image". And you edit canvas as "image". No sense at all.
By usability in view, photoshop gets worse points vs Gimp. But by technical view, it gets better points (because 16/32bit and faster preview).
Now, lets hope Adobe gets better UI what could make SENSE.
ps. There is more 'stupid' usability errors on photoshop than Gimp, not because there are more options. Because Photoshop tryes to be best for everyones. Gimp allows very good customazion, it just rocks with good windowmanager (like compiz-fusion) because you have floating windows and dockers, you can have many pictures open and still you find what you want very fast. But it still has many entrys on taskbar!
I have not downloaded that album. I would like to do that but i dont have money. I know i could download it for free but i like to pay them what they have done. But because right now i dont have money to spend what i would like (7-9 dollars) i just cant in current situation. And i would need to make something to get that money to transferred.
So, i will download that when i get money for it. But i will not buy it from local store or from iTunes, im sure i will buy it from band itself and give money to them.

First, it is needed that company what's market share is big enough is confided as monopoly owner (not that game
Microsoft is confided as monopoly holder.
Apple is not confided as monopoly holder!
Second, when Company is confided to be monopoly holder, laws (rules etc) change littlebit for it.
Apple ain't monopoly on music business, yet. Even it is owning biggest share by selling portable music players.
So, Apple is currently holding greater market share than any one else, but Apple aint monopoly.
