Forge a business relationship? That would be counter-productive to their ability to sue anything and everything for far more than they'd ever have spent on CDs. They make much more money this way.
This could be their worst move yet, especially now they've admitted the money is going to TPTB not the artists.
To be fair, the problem with allofmp3 is that they are collecting royalties but they are then lodged with a company that most (all?) of record companies have no revenue processing relationship with so the funds can't be passed on and distributed.
My first thought was 'why not sit closer to a normal TV?'.
I'm going backwards. Ten years ago I had a full Dolby Digital (or AC3 as it was back then) surround system, laserdisc player and a 40inch back projector. Now I'm stuck with an el-cheapo DVD player and a 30inch LCD screen and just the TV's built in speakers. I think the cause was wife & kids...
When anything Nasa did involved non stop TV all day, analysis in the studio, days off school to watch grainy B&W images of astronauts and a feeling of breathless excitement at the sheer awesomeness of the event.
These days it's a comment at the end of the news that something launched and everyone shrugs and mumbles 'so what'. A pity. We've totally lost sight of just what mankind has achieved in space.
Obviously it will eventually become normal stuff, it has to otherwise we'd all wet ourselves everytime a car drove by but right now it is still dangerous, the people that work on it are wonderful brave individuals and we should keep our side of the deal by yelling "yeah!" when it all goes to plan.
I used to be on Blueyonder and used 150+Gb/month, same sort of pattern. I moved and had to change to ADSL which is a nightmare in comparison. For heavy users in the UK, cable is the way to go. Totally unfiltered, fast and unlimited capacity.
>MP what you say? Music comes on computers now??? WOW!!!
Aww, I've heard me that thar compooter music and it ain't all that. Beeps and burbles and faggy looking dudes with makeup. Man, that ain't music - ya'll want to get some geetars and drums in there and then you'll see how to kick ass. Music on compooters, whatever next.
>No, I understand your envy and petty jealousy. I feel your pain.
No, not envy or jealousy. Sorry to pop your ego but it isn't that. For most it is a mixture of fear and opened mouthed 'WTF?'.
>send a letter to my congressman
Who then reports you for being un American. How DARE you criticise the government? Clearly you are a terrorist or you'd have no problem with your Gov. doing whatever it takes to protect your rights.
Not sure why this got marked Troll. It's a valid point, Google (and others) are making good money but operating on an insane ratio that makes their current stock price look highly optimistic. Many industries operate on a 20-25 ratio but some of the newer tech stocks are on 400+. Much of the problem though is that the markets have no real way yet to analyse how well a tech company is doing.
The original DivX i.e. those rental DVDs that automatically rotted in a few days. What a top notch idea that one was. (URL:http://www.fightdivx.com/divxfaq.htm)
Did you know Walmart buys 10% of the entire output of China? 90% of Walmarts products come from China? Good for the balance of trade defecit, not.
Back on track, one wonders what the management structures must be like if a project gets this far without someone, somewhere in the Walmart behomoth saying 'umm, this is a really, really cheesy and embarassingly bad idea'.
My kid has a few Hot Wheels sets. They're all about 2 feet square and feature noises, moving arms, dragons and all manner of junk. They also keep him amused for about 1 minute after I spend an hour putting it together for him (damn hard!) This is wrong.
When I was a kid, Hot Wheels let you build big long twin tracks with boosters along the way, loops and mad high curving corners. You dropped your two cars in the top (you and a friend) and watched them race to the end. Cool! Fun! Add a bit of 3in1 to the wheels. Better! We had great times building more and more crazy tracks, seeing what we could get away with, tweaking and adjusting to make the car cling on to each curve. This is right. This is how it should be.
>How the hell do you get 45mpg????????
Dunno! It's a 1.6 Zetec (UK model) if that helps. The Ford rating is something like 48mpg for motorways I think.
>a 10mpg car and a 15mpg truck.
What kind of car does that sort of mileage? i thought they pretty much all managed 30-50mpg these days? Heck, even my crummy Ford Focus does about 45mpg on a long run.
Me thinks we need to do some gene splicing.
Are you sure?
Doctor: Mrs Smith, great news! Your husband has been successfully revived and is now cured and awaiting you in room 6.
Mrs Smith: Darling!
Mr Smith: Ribbit!
>We actually did something in the spirit of cooperation with other countries.
Don't worry, I'm sure it was a mistake and will be fixed in USA V2.1

This is simply wrong. Cable on BY is unlimited and there are ISPs who let you do whatever you want such as Zen, albeit at a price.

They can't be expected to get everything right.

>Only if the secret storage mechanism inside is mag tape.
What keeps the data on the hard disk? magnetics maybe?
>those who stand up for number one.
It's those that stand up for number twos that are the difficult market to cater for.
>Open my Ass.
Ummm, no, it's OK thanks. Thanks for the offer though.

>You could... almost... write a mass-market book about it. But that would be selling out.
There was quite a good one (UK only?) called Blunderboss by Roger Trapp. It's on Amazon UK but not US.
