You may be surprised to know this, but in the US all of those exclusive deals and locked phones are because you are BUYING THE PHONE AT A SIGNIFICANT DISCOUNT. You can still go buy a phone from a third-party and use it with any network here - you are just paying full retail price for the phone. The last phone I got from T-Mobile was a $250 phone I received for zero dollars. How did I get such a deal? By signing a contract with them. If I had wanted to, I could have purchased the phone from anywhere and used whichever network I wished. But I wouldn't have got the phone free, and would have ended up paying more for services without a contract. So actually here, the consumer has MORE choices, not less.

Yes/No/Format?" Any "security" system worth its weight in used toilet paper should do that for you.

Windows does this already. The first time you connect a drive or insert a CD/DVD, Windows first tries to determine the type of media (pictures, videos, data files, etc.) and presents a prompt asking you what you would like to do - Play the movie, open the pictures in preview, launch your mp3 player, etc. - and the users are the one who decides what Windows does. There is also a checkbox for "Always take this action" with that type of media, and as long as you don't check this (or, select "Always prompt me" and select "Always do this") Windows will not automatically do anything.

In Kennesaw, GA (a.k.a. "Gun City USA") in 1982 they passed a law REQUIRING all heads of households to own and maintain a firearm. and in the 25 years since then, not a single resident has been involved in a fatal shooting - as a victim, attacker or defender. The crime rate initially plummeted for several years after the passage of the ordinance, with the 2005 per capita crime rate actually significantly lower than it was in 1981, the year before passage of the law. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55288

Funny how the direct correlation in this town seemed to be - More Guns = Less Crime - the exact opposite of your theory. Compare that to the town of Morton Grove, IL - a town that banned handguns the same year. The city's crime rate increased by 15.7 percent immediately after the gun ban, even though the overall crime rate in Cook County rose only 3 percent.

And I am saying it doesn't matter who they were bought for originally. If they wind up in a toddler's mouth, there should have been more parental control. How hard is it to say to a 10 year old who the the toy was bought for "Don't leave these laying around where little Johnny can find them." And if the 10 year old is too stupid to understand or doesn't care, then the toy should never have been bought in the first place. Sorry, but YOUR kids are YOUR responsibility. Bringing dangerous items into your house means diligence is REQUIRED by the parents. Period.

No matter how you slice it, it is the fault of the parents. Whether or not they were bought for a toddler it is still the responsibility of the parents to make sure toddlers don't get a hold of toys that could be dangerous to them.
