So that's just tripe I can't see why people think this would be insightful at all.

Seriously though why not just web forms keep java script in the browser so we only have to worry about the browser as a javascript threat vector. PDF forms seem like a complete duplication and a poor one at that since it's more efficient to send someone a URL to a website that can take the data and then pass it on to the back end system automatically. Only reason I see people doing the adobe forms is because they are too lazy, dumb, or ignorant to either build a simple forms based web app or hire a coder to do it for them.

Adobe gives them a simple tool they can do it themselves without knowing any code. Wait I just had a product idea everyone stop reading this and forget what I have said. I will reinvent Lotus Notes only this time it will work!

I have both an iPhone 3G and a Moto droid just switched mostly because AT&T sucks big donkey dicks. And In some ways the Droid is better removable battery, upgradeable memory, slide out kb, 5MP camera and some of the apps are really great like Listen (streaming podcatcher). In some ways it's not as good as the iPhone some of the built in apps are only so so like the music app and no iTunes like synching desktop app for seamless integration of playlists and device backup Windows media player does not really count IMO. But overall I would give the nod to the Droid because of the Verizon network as AT&T just blows.

Why is Miguel a fox in the hen house? As I understand it he is making an open source implementation (Moonlight) of a closed source virtual machine for C# (Silverlight). Why does this make him somehow the bad guy. Gnash is an open source implementation of a closed source virtual machine (Flash Player). And yet they are largely held up as heroes because they are making it possible to use a full open source environment and still see flash content. How is this any different from what Miguel is doing with Moonlight?

I would say people are being wholly irrational about this simply because Microsoft is the maker of Silverlight. Because logically speaking it makes no sense hold up Miguel as a villain and the Gnash team as heroes when they are doing the same types of projects. And ultimately they both are allowing a full open source operating environment to be able to run more content. How is that bad?

How does this horseshit get modded up? Not all of it was Microsoft's fault some of it came from an unprepared Windows ecosystem (nvidia). But since Microsoft largely drives that ecosystem the lack of prep could be laid at their feet as well.

I am suprised this hasn't been mentioned. But in fact there is a disparity in the regulations as they exist now. Telcos still do have to provide open access to competing DSL providers. Around here for example Front Range Internet is using that open access to sell DSL accounts. Cable companies do not have to abide by the same rules it was decided for whatever asinine reason (payoff) that cable companies would not be held to the same standard as their competitor. Of course Qwest here is pissed about it and as much as I generally despise Qwest they are right about that not being at all fair.

So while you can play the latest on consoles they start to pale when in comparison to the latest PC graphics (not that graphics are all that important anyway). Not to mention even if it was a few dollars more which it's not even really it's worth it for the freedom and openness a more open platform provides. And it's more than worth it not to completely be locked in to one companies corporate store. It's bad enough that if you want to game your stuck with Windows. It's even worse with Xbox because Microsoft owns your whole world and will micro-transact a whole LOT MORE money out of you in the long run your kidding yourself.

The argument that consoles are cheaper is compete bunk. You still need a computer right? So even if you buy a POS computer your going to spend 350-400 and your going top spend another 350-400 on a console too. So now your talking about 700-800 you can build a decent gaming rig for that and it can be upgraded over time for incremental cost. Also as is pointed out consoles are locked down like subsidized cell phones. They try to monetize everything from gamer icons to backgrounds to down-loadable content, to matchmaking and patch service like Xbox live. Oh and lets not forget after you PAY for update service and matchmaking service you get the pleasure of seeing ads that you cannot even disable on said service. It's a complete and total scam and a really bad precedent for gaming if you think about it for five minutes. Consoles are like Mussolini's Italy sure the trains run on time but you have no freedom.

There are only two low level audio libraries in linux OSS and ALSA. These other sounds servers he says were created to deal with the lack of software mixing on OSS v3. Since there is not a lack of software mixing in OSS v4 or alsa there is no need to have a sound server and in fact it just adds latency and complexity. I think this is a bit eye opening as I never really understood the relationship between sound server and back end sound library. If this is true then the whole concept of a sound server is vestigial.

As far as which is better alsa or OSS v4 that sounds like a flame war ready to happen. I just want something straightforward that works well with low latencies can we get that?
