Umm...actually, a quick google reveals that fascism is "a philosophy or system of government that is marked by stringent social and economic control, a strong, centralized government usually headed by a dictator, and often a policy of belligerent nationalism." Nowhere does it mention taking anything by force, as you suggest.

Another opinion of yours is that i "vote [my] bozo government out...", and i'd be interested to know which NON-bozo potential candidates YOU would suggest. Should i vote for our last president's wife, a carpet-bagging opportunist who's as 'left' as you are 'incorrect'?

You also suggested that we "stop bitching," which is probably pretty similar to what Dubya would say if he became literate and stumbled to this thread. Yes, I've read Orwell, and honestly, nowadays (esp. on /.), who hasn't? (Speaking of Orwell, what did you think of "Keep the Aspidistra Flying"? Or, perhaps, when you said "Orwell," you actually meant "1984.")

Next, you enlightened me by saying that the doctrines of socialism and communism are "offensive," when in reality, the ideologies behind them are sound, and even in their corrupted worldly manifestations, some would agree that they tend to be more peaceful than our de mock racy.

Finally, he didn't capitalize People; rather, he capitalized Rights of the People. Yes, "people" is a word in that phrase, but to ignore its larger context is to reveal how little you understand. By the way, don't spell capitalize with an "s" please - it gives me shivers. *yes, that last bit was a joke*

Did anyone else notice that? An ATARI (console) screenshot was used by the author to represent what an outdated gaming computer would display? Am i the only one seeing the irony in using a CONSOLE screenshot (rather than an old PC game screenshot) as an example of something unacceptable, while at the same time discussing why console gaming is superior?

  12. Re:They don't value other people's effort on Teens Don't Think CD Copying is a Crime · · Score: 2, Informative

I disagree. I write/produce/engineer/eventually sell my own music. I understand the effort that goes into this process, especially because (at the moment), I'm doing all of this on my own. I make music because I enjoy making it and because I want people to hear it. If I were to turn down an opportunity to pass my music along to someone because they didn't have any money on them, or because they didn't want to pay for a cd from someone they've never heard of, I'd be a fool.

I also freely download any music that suits my fancy, and I've never felt guilty for it one bit (quite a feat for someone who was brought up catholic!), because any "stealing" I'm doing is from the overstuffed coffers of a bunch of heartless lawyers and talentless execs, the RIAA. I view the entire fiasco as karma:

THE RIAA HAD THEIR WAY WITH MUSICIANS FOR A LONG TIME. NOW IT'S OUR TURN TO HAVE OUR WAY WITH THEM.

As a self-proclaimed semi-audiophile, i don't give a damn about DRM, or whether my audio service is MS-owned, and I can assure you that true audiophiles don't, either. These issues do not affect audio, the thing we phile (or which I admittedly semi-phile) As a computer user and consumer, I strongly disagree with DRM and don't like M$, but these things don't make a bit of difference in the way the audio sounds. Sure, the compressed formats DRM is applied to sound like crap, but they sounded like the exact same crap before they were infected.

Anyway, why would anyone cater to audiophiles? Those people are crazy!

  19. Re:Ahhh!! My ears!! on Pearl Jam Releases Video Under Creative Commons · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think that Eddie probably had a couple of better takes left in him, and I agree that "natural and raw" are two important elements (especially re: rock music) that have practically been edited out of the music industry, in general. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that PJ left this song, their current video-supported single, less-than-perfect as a reaction to all of the so-perfect-it's-unlistenable drivel we've all been bombarded with of late. Kudos to the band for, over the years, flippin the bird at the status quo, whether it be ticket surcharges with Ticketmaster, providing high-quality yet affordable recordings of live performances and encouraging trade among fans, or this most recent step, confidently asserting that they aren't perfect and they don't care if you know.

Besides, I GOTTA give it up to anyone with something to lose who is willing to risk loss to fight the RIAA. (And by "something to lose," I don't mean "500 GB of pirated mp3's.")

  20. Re:Ahhh!! My ears!! on Pearl Jam Releases Video Under Creative Commons · · Score: 4, Insightful

I disagree wholeheartedly. That unfamiliar, not-exactly-in-tune-to-the-cent pitch you hear from Eddie's voice (and at some point throughout the song, from every other harmonic instrument, as well), is something missing in today's soulless and sterile music enviornment. Call it "blue notes" (actually bluer "regions" around notes), emotion, angst, feeling; even call it "out of tune," if you want. I'll take it every day over whichever plastic, overcompressed "prostitute with a thug posse"s the labels (albeit, the same bastard labels) give us as options. Auto-Tune (and the like) do have their uses, but this is NOT one of them. There are other places to go if that's the sound you prefer.
