Yeah , this is really worth a 'nothing to see here , move along'.

I mean , this is nothing new . It's been that way for over a century.

I don't like that they track down the 'creator's of those nuisance programs ' , though . Programming these things is a fun way of learning how it works.

They should be going after the people who USE it for malicious purpose instead.

I mean , maybe we should just lock up the creators of the Windows API , because you can really do some damage with that.

well , the scientific method used both : empirism and rationalism.

The only way to know wether something is true , is to have witnessed it (emperical) , and then think about it , and then to analyze is , and verify if it is possible.

If you only analyse what someone else tells you , that information itself could be faulty , and so your conclusion may be incorrect, but there's no way to verify it.

Another look at the meaning is clearly only stating the obvious: Just as every life has a beginning it also too must have an end. It does not say that everyone must perish in a cruel, agonizing, bloody death. Even the bible has some pretty dark lines surpassing this one.

As always , it depends on the interpretation. It's not a problem that this is in the Quran , the problem is the people who use it to justify their own evil thoughts.

And this is indeed the same for the Quran , as for the Bible , or any other form of scripture. You can get out of it whatever you want.

The problem with religion is that often you are not allowed to interpret it yourself . Instead , the interpretation is imposed on you . And so everyone believes that interpretation , rather than thinking about it.

Other than that , most holy books are rather cruel , because that was accepted back then , since it was the only way to maintain order.

This doesn't apply anymore , and you have to take that into account.

So don't judge the book , judge the people abusing the book , and the masses that remain quiet about this abuse

to summarize , most wars are based on greed.

In the case of religions , i noticed the following:

At the start of religions , the religion is usually fought against by the powers that be. At that moment the religion is often peacefull , caring , and serves a general good.

Then the religion becomes accepted, and eventually becomes mandatory. At that point the religion becomes dogmatic , abusive , and serves basically to enslave people.

It all begins spiritually , with best intentions. But then power and greed corrupts it , and uses it to bend the people's will.

So , if you seek spirituality , you can only find it by seeking it all by yourself, not by someone else tells you to do.

One of my favorite quotes :

religion is regarded by the common man as true , by the wise as false , and by the rulers as useful.

I'm pretty sure most atheists have higher moral standards than religious people , simply because they don't have a holy book to hide behind.

While indeed some sales might get lost , that's not really a determinable figure , because of 2 reasons :

    - Not everyone who pirates something , was going to buy it if they couldn't pirate it.

    - Pirating something doesn't mean you won't buy it , or maybe have already bought it ( say for instance , you bought a game before , but the cd's is unreadable now , so you pirate it , but in reality it's not a lost sale )

Similary , it can be easier to download a song from the internet , then to go looking in your pile of cd's until you find it .

On the other hand , it's possible to copy something i downloaded and share it without using the internet , wich might be a lost sale without the download.

So x amount of downloads doesn't mean x amount of lost sales . So any claims maybe to it can never be proven . Not sure how Ars can know this any better , maybe they took this into account and got to a more probable number . But it will still remain a guess.
