Trump is committed to "clean coal" (sic) and getting all those Kentucky coal miners their jobs and black lung back. So nah, probably not replacing coal with nuclear.

On the other hand, Trump has already started racking up the imaginary successes:

The alt-right started calling moderate conservatives 'Cuckservatives', claiming that there were like the Cuckoo, sitting in the 'nest' of the Republican party and feigning conservatism to win votes, but voting for progressive policies while in office.

That's simply not true. That story is just the alt-Right trying to lie about the fact that they started on 4chan, where the word, "cuck", short for "cuckold" has been a popular insult for a while. It is a mythical origin story that was concocted long after the term "cuck" and "cuckservative" were widely used.

It' never had anything to do with a cuckoo bird. It has to do with 4chan's seemingly very intimate knowledge of p0rn videos that show black men having sex with married white women.

So really, you could say that "cuck" is a term used by men who have a fascination with black penises. I hope that clears up your confusion.

  3. There is pretty sparse evidence that chopping up telcos results in lower prices, some fair competition yes, taking them apart, no.

I'm not suggesting you dismantle Comcast in order to get lower prices. I'm suggesting you dismantle Comcast because they are too damn big and have too much control of the marketplace.

I'm old enough to remember when there were a bunch of local ISPs and that's what brought prices down.

Sometimes, just enforcing the law is enough. There's far too much consolidation in telecommunications and cable television. Comcast is a perfect candidate for being made an example. Corporate consolidation and the resultant power they can wield is undemocratic, un-American, anti-capitalist and anti-consumer.; Screw 'em.

  6. Trump and his movement are not ordinary.
His parallel goes back rather further in history.

And those parallels are far too familiar, far too similar, and I feel we must be wary, because while we eventually destroyed Hitler too... ...it was rather costly and not a repetition of history I'd care to live through.

I agree. It might sound contradictory, but I believe we let Trump govern as he will, but we must never, ever act like there's anything normal about it.

It's minorities, the elderly, and other at-risk groups that I worry about. And also the ignorant alt-Right, who will have to deal with watching their dreams turn to ashes and sand because they put their faith in the hands of a guy who sells patent medicine at carnivals.

Stories are stories. Even Heinlein's stories are just recycled stories dressed in science-y cosplay. He didn't invent anything. There are classical roots all through Heinlein's novels. Even your favorite, Starship Troopers, is just a war story with fantasy weapons and aliens.

By your definition, there are very very few actual "science fiction" works, Only books such as Anathem by Stephenson would qualify.

Holy shit, lad. I didn't 'criticize" Heinlein, I just said I didn't get his popularity. I suppose I can understand how he might be popular with the young adult market from the 1960s.

That eliminates both Haldeman and Tiptree, and I've only seen her works in Ace doubles which is hardly a recommendation.

If you've only seen Tiptree in Ace doubles, you are poorer for it. She's won Hugo, Nebula, Locus, World Fantasy, Hayakawa and Seiun Awards, not to mention a bunch of SF magazine readers' choice awards. She's an inductee into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame.
