It really depends on the situation. If they suspect you of wrongdoing , they will take you to the station to verify your identity. If they ask you for it during a traffic stop or similar, they won't do anything else (they already have your drivers license). So you are partly right, it can be more bothersome if you do not have your license on you, but in the end it doesn't really matter. Concerning German police being more civil: After Hitler with Gestapo and SS the government has really tried to make a point of police being civil servant. So they get trained a certain way and it's also why the uniform is grass green and khaki. Although I do think at least the color of the uniform is being made the same in all countries of the EU, a dark blue.

Correct, you are required to own one, but there is no law that requires you to keep it on you at all times. Although most Germans do not know this either.

I know what you are getting at, but actually it is not a bad idea. I have found myself wishing I could send and receive spoken text message using an IM app. The reason is simple, I have contacts overseas that are too expensive to call using a mobile and even though I have an unlimited data plan, the mobile network in the country side is usually too slow to make stable skype voice calls. I have looked for an android app that would do voice2text, but there seems to be none (yet). alos, I hate typing on touch screens, and voice input would be a possible alternative. I am guessing though that phones today are still too limited in cpu and storage to make such a feature possible. My HTC Magic feels incredibly slow as it is.

My first game on my first PC: Lemmings was great. I don't think I did anything productive for a few days. Duke Nukem, Commander Keen and Monkey Island followed. All the great adventure and RPG games: anything Lucas Arts, Lands of Lore (Westwood), Ultima, Call of the Cthulhu. I always loved great story telling. VF III in the arcades was some of the funest gaming times I had.

Z finally brought some great jump'n'run from the Amiga the PC. I was always jealous in the regard. Loved the humor in Theme Hospital. There is so much that can go wrong in a neglected hospital.

True to that. That is why Chrome is my browser of choice on my Atom based netbook. It is much faster than FF (sorry Moz) and I have about 20% additional screen real-estate to display the actual webpage. And on a 10" screen you need to squeeze all you can get out of both.
It wasn't an easy decision however, considering Chrome is closed source and privacy concerns related to anything Google.
