This is of course true, but one problem is that these companies largely pay for a lot of our interwebsites today, through meaningless ads for irrelevant products.
Care to tell why you're using closed-source-binary-firewalls when the rest is open? Isn't the functionality of iptables and any of the completely open management interfaces enough?
Understanding statistics is necessary for being an informed voter.
Statistics requires algebra.
Thus, it is in the public interest to make sure people understand algebra and statistics.
Which is why, when I read articles like this, stop to think: Who benefits from a lesser educated general public? Some kind of follow-the-money reasoning, or in this case, follow the power.
Maybe it's just me, but it also seems that it has become more common to lash out on maths in the last few years.
Ignoring your homophobic comments, global application menu also defeats one very nice thing common in linux window managers: focus-follows-mouse. I have been using Precise for a few months with mostly default settings, and it still sucks.
Would you do it if there was a 100% chance of the vessel rupturing a few minutes after takeoff? Probably not, that would be suicide without any gains.
So NASA must spend some money to make sure that the mission succeeds, and that you stay alive long enough to collect useful data. Preferably to stay alive for the next mission too, because training a new guy might be more costly.
Perhaps they could state that there is an N% chance of survival, then see who's willing to go up.
So? He wrote a nice file system. That's moderately relevant to me. I couldn't care less about what he does on his spare time or in what ways his wife died. It doesn't affect me the slightest.
3. Companies will sometimes hold onto the title to make a remake/reboot/sequel later. Or they will sell a package cd of all the games. So they will not want to open the game up.
I think this is one of the things they are the most afraid of, and the most ridiculous thing to be afraid of. Take for example the case of Diablo III. Wouldn't it have been seriously cool if they had released the source code to Diablo I just before the release of Diablo III? It would be all over every geek blog and new site, and it wouldn't hurt a bit.
It's stupid to think that someone wouldn't buy Diablo I in a collectors box just because they have shown how it was made. And they still have whatever rights to the trademark as they did before. I just can't see any problem here.
We're talking about old games here. Games where it would be insane to think that you would take even one line of the source code to base a sequel on.
I would very much like the ability to inspect the software that claims to make sure that no on else gets my money but me.
If this is a problem to the banks, then something might just not be as secure as they claim.
That doesn't mean I'm claiming that GPL requires them to give me access to the software, but in an ideal world, I would have access to it, and I think that it would benefit the security of the transactions for both parts.
No, they should keep the seat belts. They should keep letting people decide when to use them, and they should not be responsible for any deaths that occur if someone did not use them.
Like letting people change their password as they should if they want to remain safe, or leave them if they want to get hurt badly in case someone hits them.
They are not responsible for their hopefully grown-up customers that are all obviously trusted by the banks to have credit cards.
Sure, they should have known better than to trust users to change their passwords, but some people need to learn the hard way. At most, this means a few weeks of sleepless nights for their PR-department.
They are probably not looking for direct communication signals. Activity by "intelligent" life forms will most surely create a lot of regular and odd patterns at various high and low frequencies as a side effect, and this is what SETI is/should look for.
So you mean that I as an internet user now need to know exactly where and how my packets are routed? Because you claim that if that data travels through a country with different laws, I must follow them.
Option 3 is what Gottfrid Svartholm, the other guy, took. Last we heard is that he went to work in Cambodia, but he has since disappeared.
A shame really because he had the only access to a nice server with very offensive and childish Disney comic remakes. It crashed some year ago, and since then no one has been able to restore it.:(
They already have that. They all utilize the functionality in the browser that is required to interface with the websites.
When technology has come far enough to reliably generate text on the fly from spoken audio, this will be a non-issue. Until then, cooperation from vendors are required when possible to do without too much effort.
My Windows programer friend is thinking this is the best thing since sliced bread he can write his code once and it will work on anything.
Like Java...
I have once clicked an ad from google in gmail. I think it was about 1U linux servers. It was pretty relevant at the time.
This is of course true, but one problem is that these companies largely pay for a lot of our interwebsites today, through meaningless ads for irrelevant products.
So what you're saying is that you grew older, and games are no longer your primary interest.
Care to tell why you're using closed-source-binary-firewalls when the rest is open? Isn't the functionality of iptables and any of the completely open management interfaces enough?
What, have you never heard of the sony rootkit? they were pretty damn close to getting sued for similar issues.
So you're saying they were actually not..
And a script that sends DMCA takedown notices to itself because the new song sounds similar to something old.
OH REALLY??? WHERE OH WHERE ARE THE INTERPRETED DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENTS FOR IOS?? NOWHERE!!! They violate the TOS and are DISALLOWED.
SO MUCH FOR "EASY DEVELOPMENT"
This is the reason I disable capslock on computers that I install...

Seriously.
It's hardly a conspiracy theory to speculate that a missing person may actually be alive until they have found the body or got a confession.
My main issue with the device is that they crippled the openess to include something that no one in this target group actually wants - 1080p video.

It's Gottfrid Svartholm, ffs.

Maybe a 13 year old would have known that, like, 15 years ago? It's friggin 2012. Ask about bieber.
