You seem to have completely missed that Debian comes in three flavours, Stable, Testing and Unstable. Ubuntu synchronize each release with the debian Testing, which is constantly moving and updated a lot every day. Everyone knows that debian stable is almost never released, so no one is asking them to release a new stable every 6 months.
What exactly would be accomplished? Nothing.
I don't know if you're just trolling now, but didn't you even read the summary? The developers of say, KDE or Firefox would know that if they can get their new versions done at release-time they'll have the new versions in all distros as soon as possible. Now the distros sometimes have to ship beta-versions, stay with the old one, or delay the release for an unknown period of time. Any of those are really bad for the users, which are the most important ones.
Why are you whining so much about debian? The only thing that this would change is that packages would end up in debian testing at a more predictable time. Debian couldn't care less about Ubuntu. I don't think Ubuntu works the way you think it does here...
Actually, it would be better of with say, 4 or 5 "big" ones. Having just two often leads to incompatibilities, since each on their own have enough users/programs/support to be able to go ahead and do their own thing. If there are 5 popular "desktop environments", one of them can't just go their own way, because that would alienate 80% of the users/programs. They would have to remain compatible at the important levels.
Not that I have anything against bashing religious groups, but in this case, didn't these people start this cult because they were rejected from the mormons? I could start a cult that worships the slaughter of young children and call me a buddhist, but that wouldn't really make the buddhist any worse..
And yet you don't find it strange at all that that all the flamebait trolls with negative comments about our dark-skinned human friends are getting modded down. Hint: They're modded down because they're stupid, ignorant and backwards.
quadro will still outperform the geforce by a mile.
What makes you think that? Did you benchmark this mod and compared with a quadro with the same chipset? Do you think everyone that did so are liars? Or are you just working for nvidia?
Yes, obviously, because no matter what anyone else claims, the US of A is naturally the best. The scientists in Russia was of course FORCED to work, and the scientists in USA were happy to do it! And yeah well, maybe some other countries are technically better, but that's because USA didn't want to be better. And also it only looks like they are better, but they did it in the wrong way, and if USA would have done it the same way, USA would have been even better!
The corporation is therefore liable, not the individuals involved.
And one might argue that the world would be a slightly better place to live in if it was not so... Imagine. A company actually taking responsibility for its actions.
I use LVM on all my single-drive setups. I use it on this 16GB compact flash-equipped laptop. It's very convenient to be able to shrink and grow partitions on the fly, when testing new distros or using virtualization.
On the machines that I actually use it across more than one physical device, I make sure to have a good backup...
the only reason I go to Slashdot anymore over programming.reddit & news.ycombinator is because the comments and moderation are better and I get a higher %age of stories relevant to my interests
Uhm, what would be any other reason to visit a news agregator? The whole point is to get the news that are more relevant to you, and that the comments are interesting to read?
For example: If you have a '2008race' tag and an 'Election2008' tag it gets messy quickly.
When this is discovered, the incorrect tag will be deleted, the message will be tagged with the correct one, and the person who used a completely new tag when there was one suitable would be flogged. Just as if someone puts a message in the wrong folder.
Should such email data be tagged 'politics' or 'election' or 'RonPaul' or something entirely different.
It should be tagged 'politics' if it has to do with politics, in this case yes. It should be tagged 'election' if it has to do with an election, so again, yes. It should be tagged 'RonPaul' if it has to do with Ron Paul, so who knows.
With tags it's not a question of just using one, but rather apply the tags that are relevant. Then if you want to find everything about ron paul, you select the ron paul tag. If you want to narrow it down to just elections, you also select the election tag.
If you have physical access to his laptop, you can just boot with any linux live cd and mount the partitions without any access control. This will not work if he is using encryption, but unfortunately, few people do.
Oh, ok, thank you for the lesson! I guess the temperature drop from hothot to ambient was just imagination. The noise drop from some noise to absolutely zero noise must have been unnoticable as well.

But not your first failure, apparently.
Regarding your .sig, it's "umount", not "unmount".
Heathen! Thou shall not GOTO anywhere!
Stop invoking Godwin's Law!

FYI, PRQ is run by the guys behind The Pirate Bay. They're not likely to cave in that easily. :)
Something is very wrong with you!
Yes, you could also contact the journalist but that would be rather futile. :)
Maybe you should call some engineer at NASA and tell them about these ideas?
You just missed your chance to join the GNAA.

Huh? This is exactly why this screen is designed. So you can react to the motion in far peripheral vision. How can this cause a problem?
It's GPLv2.

Did you miss the part where he has to enter the current password?
I've never thought about the first part, but the latter...
