I haven't used any swapspace for years on my desktops, memory is so cheap now that there's no point. On my servers, of course, but then again it's 99.9% unused.
For example, this thinkpad has 1.25GB RAM, and I've seen at most 300MB used. Then again, I don't run Vista.
Dunno about the author of this article, but got an "SSD" (hello buzzword) to get rid of the noise, the heat, and the annoying spin-up delay. A compactflash card doesn't cost eleventy billion dollars either.
the Wii is okay, though could still do with some anti-aliasing. The Wii is obviously more designed for a multiplayer/'family' experience [...] If you're wanting to go through more 'serious' games that require more thinking and time to complete, then get the PS3.
How could anti-aliasing improve those types of games?
Perhaps you meant to say "If you want mindless racing around a track or run around killing people, then get the PS3."

I think that is why Russia recently passed laws requiring WiFi equipment to be registered
Except that they didn't. It was some journalist that fucked up, as usual. If you have a cellphone tower in your back yard you need to register. If you have a wifi router, you don't.
Indeed, and every time you do, it makes the article and the whole Wikipedia stronger and more trustworthy and useful. I've only seen one instance where it was used for trolling, and then it was simply solved by removing the tag.
That has actually been a "jokingly serious" suggestion. Increasing the background radiation in an area so humans don't dare to use it or any products from that area. Works great with Chernobyl for example, the forest around the area has a lot more animal life now than before the incident.
Couldn't the criminals find a less radioactive region to illegally fish?
Of course they could. But there are more thieves there. This area is empty, so it's probably easier and takes less time to get the same amount of fish, compared to the safe areas.
Well, as a member of the Pirate Party I know about those, but I thought it would be interesting to know what kind of laws that prevent competition in the US broadband market.:)
Indeed. I found out about the quote here: http://www.stealthisfilm.com/Part2/projects.php, and it felt very spooky to read that and get some sort of insight. Without very strong IP-laws, the US has nothing. For the US, it's more than worth to go to war for, in order to make sure all other nations will respect it.

And what happens to the patient if one of these goes down because of a virus?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Yeah, but what about those NOT on the list...
I'll list them for you:
*The company that made the Gamecube hardware was later bought by ATI, so ATI didn't have much to do with that.
How could anti-aliasing improve those types of games?

:DDDDD
Hilarious!
What about a reversed turing-test. You have to chat with a bot, convincing the bot that you're a human, not a computer.
Why not?
Except that they didn't. It was some journalist that fucked up, as usual. If you have a cellphone tower in your back yard you need to register. If you have a wifi router, you don't.
No fucking way! That's outrageous!
It would never be the same as the original.

Well, he could have kept it a secret for a little longer if he chose too, since it was him that wrote it on his own facebook page...
You had chisels? The luxury! :o
I do, and I'm quite sure you will find that a lot of other slashdotters do as well.
Ok, now let's take another popular tracker, say, ubuntu.com... Hm.. 100% linux distributions!
Of course you only get pirated material on The Pirate Bay! If you have content that's non-controversial, you put it up yourself.
Uhm, you don't want Disney after you. Seriously.
People sharing "girl naked" would be unfairly targeted even though said "girl" is actually a 25-year-old woman. And fairly so. A 25 year old woman in the porn industry is referred to as "mature" or "milf".
No, not really, this is an ancient idea, and has been done at least a couple of time, with probably not-so-great results.

None of the above.

What laws would this be?
And here's the catch:
cooperation with major P2P software vendorsWhich still means that if the P2P "software vendors" (who are these?) pays them, they'll allow it. Great neutrality.
