Your logic is based on the assumption that one has an old car, then buys a new car which one proceeds to drive for 15 years. That just doesn't work out.
In my experience, people change cars about every 4-5 years. The older (more polluting/less safe) cars are "handed down", while a less polluting/more safe car is aquired. It's not just about the energy, but also safety and comfort. And for some, status.

Upping the power will increase the background noise (and bleed into the neighbouring channels). It will appear that your dick^Wsignal gets better since it's "louder", but it won't help since the client is still transmitting at low power. With different hardware, you can transmit at higher power without fucking up the entire spectrum. But with consumer-level crap, don't think it'll help because it won't.

  3. Re:Hack your AP on How Best To Deal With WiFi Interference? · · Score: 2, Informative

Actually, you're wrong. Increasing the transmit power will decrease your S/N ratio. It's actually better to lower the transmit power a bit, since there will be more signal and less noise.

The same law of physics that makes it harder to stop with ABS in loose snow and gravel. If you lock your brakes on slush, the tires push the slush in front of them, effectively digging itself downwards. With ABS though, you regularly remove any slush build-up that can help you brake. I have personally experienced this (I live in Norway..)
From the Wikipedia article on ABS: "In gravel, sand and deep snow, ABS tends to increase braking distances. On these surfaces, locked wheels dig in and stop the vehicle more quickly. ABS prevents this from occurring."

In almost all cases, ABS is a "Good Thing(TM)". In a few corner cases, it's not quite as good. Either way, it's in no way an excuse for driving like an idiot.

The whole climate debate is full of idiots and failed scientific method. There is no proof, and little correlation, yet it is preached like gospel.
There is no doubt a good thing to be reducing our emissions. But at what cost?

Currently, here in Norway, the government is going crazy taxing car owners. If they actually cared about the environment, there's a bunch of things that could be done to reduce emissions markedly. Yet, they are not interested in those.
