The problem for freenet/gnunet/tor etc is that they achieve their anonymity by inefficiency (organiesed bunch of proxies).
Distributed dynamic content would be more efficient than distributed anonymous dynamic content.
The music and movie cartels could still go after compyright infringers, but they would have to go after the little bloke, which is a tactic they they have already tried and given up on.
Imagine if a torrent could contain dynamic content, like a web page.
You download the torrent, the content has say thepiratebay.org indexed, somehow the creater of the official torrent can modify the files pointed to by the torrent, and thus make the piratebay itself distributed. Synchronization might be tricky...
Maybe it wouldnt work, but in any case, i look forward to seeing what great new technology all this enforcement brings us.
No, intel is a 3rd party in the NVIDIA vs AMD graphics wars.
Modern well integrated and maintained open source 3D drivers are one of the things the free software needs in the long term, it wont ever happen at NVIDIA, it has been slowly happening at AMD.
Intel hurting NVIDIA is indirectly helping the good guys, AMD.
I feel sorry for all these climate change people, they have all been sucked in. As you point out, the data that climate change bases its information on might have been influenced by external events (like hot air, CO2 etc).
I even heard a rumour that all this climate change shenanigans is just a cover story being driven by lobbyists from the Dutch Windmill Company Pty Ltd, apparently they have some patents on windmills and they have executing a now 30 year plan to destroy the oil industry, an industry that is essential if we are to maintain our mass produced throw away culture.
Honestly, I can't understand how any serious observer of world affairs, whatever you may personally think of the United States, can maintain that UN control is preferable to the current system. Not by any standard.
The world is currently facing Climate change and a Global Financial Crisis, and you think people want individual countries to continue to decide the worlds fate ?
You dont think people would rather it being decided by the most globably representative body that exists, the UN ?
This is precisely what can happen when a western company outsources "engineering" work to countries with little or no respect of copyright or intellectual property.
You imply that western countries respect copyright or intellectual property.
Perhaps instead of blaming countries or cultures it could be simply be that companies dont have a reason to obey open source copyright until they are forced too.
If a company gets caught violating open source licenses the community is very willing to accept it was an accident, even blind ignorance is easily forgiven.
When a company is caught violating open source licenses it just means they have to pay for a lawyer to explain their rights and obligations to them, something they would have had to do anyway... so there is a chance that violating open source licenses will save the company money.
Until violators (and people like Darl McBride) are treated as severely as RIAA defendants then nothing will change, these people need to face bankruptcy or jail, there should not be a profit motive to destroy a public asset (which is what open source is).
However, the monkeys aren't designers the theory is based on random input, the probability of a monkey designing/planning the great work of literature and then writing it is more remote (its an extra condition).
The strength of open source is that the distributed nature of project organization leads to very scalable implementations of ideas/designs.
A design is something that has to exist as a single cohesive vision. It can be broken down but there has to be a top level design before it can be split. (if you have multiple pieces at the top you really have multiple designs)
As a design has to exist completely before it can be broken up it will never scale as well as the implementation of a design.
Design will always be a larger problem than the implementation, its more visible in large projects as their design becomes more complex, it manifests itself as bloat an increased errors as people losing sight of the bigger picture.
So now mega corporations are out-sourcing open source companies to increase their properties... am i in a dream ?
As someone who enjoys raving on about the evils of the commercialization of open source i feel i have nowhere to go now (except maybe to the shop to buy a N900 so i can hook it up top my freerunner)...
It would help if you were more articulate, take these questions as a hint as to what details you could have added.
Who disallowed uploading, the sever admin or is it against the law ?
The law of which country, civil or criminal ?
What if the server is private in my own home is it still illegal to upload to it ?
What if the server is in another country, can i upload to it then ?
What type of content are we talking about, movies/music/software/blogs ?
What is the license of the material you claim cant be uploaded ?
Is it illegal to upload stuff i hold exclusive copyright over ?
Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml#a19 What is the name of the person or persons who claim it is illegal for me to impart ideas through any media, and could they please report to the UN for an arse kicking.
Agreed, and i think many programmers dont know the difference.
Also, its important to understand difference between motivation and inspiration, motivation is useful at the coding stage, but inspiration is what is important at the design stage. I dont believe people can be motivate to design as it has a creative/artistic component. Wheres coding is more automated/scientific.
Motivation comes from within, its from an inner will, a person is motivated if they can force themselves to do something they would prefer to not do.
Inspiration comes from outside, from other people, events, locations, music/movies, whatever. Try and discover what inspires you and use it to your advantage.
So corporations are complaining that the software that they get for free and use to make truck loads of money isnt exactly what they want.
Ive got an idea, WRITE YOUR OWN DAMNED SOFTWARE, or maybe participate constructively in the community. Dont just complain, do some work yourself on the same terms as the work you received.

Sometimes people play games (or watch tv, drink, do drugs, whatever) to escape from their lives, in such a case the addiction/compulsion might be a symptom of the problem, not the source.
If you get him to give up this method of escape then he might just replace it with another, possibly more destructive method of escape.
If possible try to get him to recognize and address what he is escaping from.
Ask him what he would like his perfect RL to be, if he can honestly say the way it is, then he has made his choice.
Sometimes we have learn the hard way, other times we just need to be accepted and understood.
Perhaps the FSF didnt want to put a price on it, so they required cisco to pay what they think is fair.
In that situation, cisco has choice in the amount they pay rather than if they pay or not, they amount the choose is far more powerful than the demand of having to pay something, so its reasonable i think to consider it a donation.
But then again i didnt RTFA, so i could have it all wrong.

Disclaimer: I work for Nokia and I have an N900.
Can the Nokia N900 be 100% functional with only open source... (or does it depend on closed source drivers) ?
If essential software for the n900 is closed then this article is somewhat ironic.
Do we get mad at Intel?
No, intel is a 3rd party in the NVIDIA vs AMD graphics wars.

To answer my own questions....
Apparently this device is based on Maemo, from its website; "Maemo is a software platform that is mostly based on open source code" (emphasis mine)
Expect proprietary blobs wherever they can get away with it.
Are the drivers it requires open source ?
Do Nokia playing nice, are they prepared to go out of their way to obey licenses or are they just interested in 0 cost rather than libre software ?
The point of mentioning the UN is that its a very delicate area, its a fine line to walk between an authors rights and people rights to commnunicate.
To state that uploading is illegal and downloading isnt does the topic a great injustice.
And ff you think its so simple please take a few seconds to answer them, thanks
uploading is -not- allowed, downloading is.

Citing piracy concerns is just corporate spin mumbojumbo.
Its only ever profit expectations that concern a corporation.
Would generate an additional $6 billion in revenues for media corporations each year
or
Would consume an additional $6 billion in revenues from consumers each year

HAHA, you smarty pants and your thinking industries, when will you learn.
Over hear in Australia, our industries are based on digging up rocks, and crushing them, then we sell the special stuff in the rocks and getem ipod.
We dont get no recessions.
The two are related, FOSS is more about a development methodology (or ideology) rather than just being executable bits.
If you want to understand you need to learn about "community".
So, what exactly did Google "get for free"
They get the software that they run on their server farms for free.
Google has a lot of servers... how much would they be paying if it was all commercial software ?
So corporations are complaining that the software that they get for free and use to make truck loads of money isnt exactly what they want.

STREAMS are overkill for simplex
No one person can be objective, a fair value can only be reached when their is competition.
Patents and copyrights are government granted monopolies, therefore anti-competition, and thus will always be unfairly priced.
do you really hate paying people for their work that much?
It depends how much...
Im happy to pay people how much i think their work is worth to me, but only a victim would pay what a capitalist says their work is worth.
