    And direct democracy probably works when your average size of "country" is around 315,000 people. Increase that by 3 orders of magnitude and I bet it would break down completely... Not to mention the 94% white European heritage - there's a very strong commonality of culture and race within Switzerland which also makes it easier to get groups to agree.

    Switzerland also has an incredibly weak central Government; the main power lies in the cantons. With a strong central Government, direct democracy quickly devolves into dictatorship.

Hmm, I guess that's why I've seen - on more than one occasion - a train stop at the French/Belgian border, officers come on board, ask for paperwork - and escort a few 'undocumented' individuals off the train. Border control in the EU exists - it's just not enforced most of the time. But each country still retains its right to implement border controls at will.

    Just got off a flight (well, 2 days ago) from Hong Kong - no DHS there! A pre-screen for liquids in the bags, but that was it. Likewise when I've traveled throughout Asia - Narita, Pudong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Bangkok, Singapore, etc. I've seen the DHS station in Montreal and Dublin, but that's it.

    But once the computer system is developed, tested, and implemented once - it should cost a LOT less to replicate to other trains than adding more humans. So yes, the up-front costs are higher, but the per-unit costs should be substantially lower.

    They freaking are everywhere, and clog up all the aisles and corridors. If you have a booth - show your stuff there, distribute information digitally (rather than phonebook-sized catalogs). And if you're there to show your wares to people in booths - freaking pony up the $10K and get a booth yourself.

    You're even worse with numbers. If you look at the original poll, you'll see there's a 3.1% margin of error. So it's 67 to 73% who think we're headed in the wrong direction. Statistical sampling isn't for the weak of mind, or those who cling to beliefs in the presence of facts...

    Because it's irrelevant what units you use, as long as there's a conversion for them, and they're locally used universally. Now, if you have a hard time with gallons: there's about 3.8 liters per gallon. Multiply by 4, subtract 5%. Simple. Or maybe that's too hard for you...

    Please see the McCarran Walter Immigration Act, which was upheld later in 1977 by the Supreme Court. It allows restricting entry based upon country, region (ahem - ISIS areas), political beliefs, or even suspected subversives. Carter used that very same Act to bar those from Iran - and the same Act would apply to people from the Middle East (region).

    After all, fully implementing all features and requirements/targets of COP21 would reduce the global temperature in the year 2100 by only 0.05 deg C. About 25% of the error tolerance for global temperature in the first place. Essentially, COP21 is a "feel good" agreement - it does nothing other than redistribute tens of trillions of dollars.

    No, a few posts ago I said it was flat after the singular El Nino event. And in fact flat before the El Nino event. If you actually read what I wrote - and not what your knee-jerk expectation wants to see - you'd understand my two posts are completely in line with each other. But strawmen are so much more fun to attack, are they not?

    It's really not an issue - be loose, don't jerk the wheel fast, go with the flow. It's what we motorcyclists have been doing since the beginning. Sidewinds and big rig trailers - not really an issue once you trust the wheels to keep you upright.

    Yep! But we need to spend $13.5 TRILLION over the next 15 years so we can cut the predicted temperatures by 0.05 deg C - an unmeasurable amount. So spend trillions, wait 85 years, get nothing. That sounds like a great plan - if you want to force massive wealth redistribution....

    How long has the rise gone on - and what's the cycle? A single big stairstep in the satellite record is all we have. Before that - flat. After that - flat. Are we going to spend trillions of dollars to have a potential 0.15 deg C reduction in temperatures in 85 years, based upon a single observed step?

    If your message doesn't get through, it's usually the messenger... As far as calling all muslims extremists - I didn't do that. Neither did Trump. What he DID say was to figure out our visa policy (why do people known to be on watch lists get visas) before issuing more of them. You know, the same kind of thing as that hate-monger Jimmy Carter did...

    Huh? Where did I compare all Christians to Charles Manson? Trump isn't advocating violence - he's saying "stop granting visas for a year until we figure this out". You know, the same thing that ultra-violent Jimmy Carter did to the Iranians in 1979 and 1980. How is simply stopping visas until we tighten up the ability to determine if an applicant is a real threat any potential violent action or use of force?

    Is it a Ph.D? Nope. Many would discount him - because of that. And many would say he's not qualified to speak on subjects other than Mathematics - in which he earned that degree. Yet he's reknowned for his work in physics and other fields. Go figure...
