In pretty much every country that I know of, Honda cannot revoke the warranty on my car if I install an espresso machine, or use Goodyear tires. My engine and suspension are still under warranty as long as I use tires of the correct size...
The difference is that Honda will not sue you for mounting an espresso machine to the dashboard, and you don't have to go to a Honda dealer to buy new tires. After you buy it, it's your car, not Honda's. Stevie thinks differently.
It's folksy economic "wisdom" like that may yet lead us back into recession. Until jobs come back, we can either pay people to build things with long-term value, or we can pay them to sit at home.
p.
Or how about we don't pay people to sit at home? Take the money spent on UI and "sit-at-home" spending and just eliminate corporate taxes. They bring in less than $130 billion. Eliminate taxation from companies and you'll see business creating those jobs that VP Biden's told us are gone forever (all 8 million of them).
Now you're assuming Apple cares about any product more than 2 years old.
What other cell platforms are getting significant updates after two years?
The difference is that Apple just posted 65 critical patches to iOS, half of which allow arbitrary code execution. So you're not getting those now-published and officially acknowledged holes.
And Apple holds your actions illegal if you attempt to fix them yourself.
So it's not just the open publishing of security patches that won't be fixed for old phones, but legally prohibiting the owner from fixing those patches on their own.
Yeah, they won't support it, and legally restrict you from supporting yourself!
Now you're assuming Apple cares about any product more than 2 years old. After all, they just cut support for first generation iPhones and iTouches, and those are just a hair over 2 years... I guess that's a better business model, though - planned obsolescence in 24 months.
Instead I keep my right hand free to pick my nose, scratch my ass, shake hands, open doors, drive, shift gears, pucnch idiots in nose and everything else. My left hand is for phone use only.
Yeah, if we ever meet don't be surprised if I hand you a pair of gloves!
[Insert regulator] guidelines mandate that the antenna be at the base of the handset, as far away from the brain as possible. Putting the antenna in the top is not possible.
Sorry, the regulations specify SAR versus angle, but do not mandate placement of the antenna. It seems all other new phones (HTC EVO, for example) are able to pass SAR limits with antennas at the top of the phone. Of course, they also put the antennas inside, covered with plastic, too...
Hey, I just downloaded the Switcher Pro software from TI. Used Firefox, and it's dropped right on my desktop. Double-clicked, and installed.
Yeah, that's really difficult, we need to simplify things. Because if you're too much of a mouth-breather to actually double-clink and follow a few prompts (note that not every application has a simple little setup configuration), then we need to make things even easier.
How else can we ensure they catch and spread more and more trojans?
Are you sure it's reception that's the problem? One test I've seen (update 4) indicates that you can still get downloads, but the upload and ping go completely away. Theoretically boosting transmit power should help that issue.
Click a link on a web page, usually after I enter my purchase information. I know, I know, it's an evil, sissy GUI approach rather than typing "apt-get" like the 'l33t folkz do it.
Of course you're right... Why would Apple care? After all, ripping off ideas and selling them out as their own is not a new idea, just ask Steve Jobs about pretty much any Apple product!
The difference is, tweaking/replacing the OS on the N900, or any Android or WinMo phone doesn't result in you risking prosecution from the phone maker...

My contract is up in December. I'll wait until then to update because they'll have these issues resolved.
Or they will have trained their fanbois sufficiently to just hold the phone differently...

Steve Jobs' reply: "Your spending your money wrong".
In other news, goofy Californians fiddle with state rocks while their budget burns, note water still wet film at 11.
Of course, you cannot use that water to put out the fire because it might threaten another species of smelt or a snail somewhere...
We have our share here in Washington, Californication is a sad reality here...
Sweet - they've created the cure to male pattern baldness! Now if we can just get past the "love child of Buckwheat and Carrot Top" side effect...

How about letting an enterprising app developer create a JVM for the iPhone? So that others can create simple Java games and tools?
Try to make your own iPod compatible connector. Good luck with that one, Apple will sue you into the ground.

Hmmm, my calendar math is a little rusty, but August 2008 would be nearly 2 years ago, not 3 (2008 to 2009, 2009 to 2010)...;)

It's Apple - function follows form.

What happens when Congress pushes through a bill without a single business day for public review? A bill introduced on Saturday afternoon is voted on at 1 AM Sunday morning. That's not too open now, it is?
Maybe the bars are a combination of transmit and receive power?

Boost output power to compensate for lower signal. Simple solution, really - if you don't care about slashing your battery life...
Some people like that. Visit the fetish section of the store some time...
