The released documents are interesting reading - although very long-winded and obtuse. What fascinates me is the overall callousness and unemotional references to non-Muslim human lives. Bin Laden cautions against killing the French hostages, not because killing is wrong, but because the political ramifications might have a negative effect at this time. The only time there seemed to be any concern for human life was on the issue of suicide bombings that killed random Muslims in Afghanistan & Pakistan. For most of the letters, he could very well have been a CEO talking about a downsizing at a branch office.
You got a source for that demographic data? That doesn't match with sources I've seen (like the often referenced Daedalus Project).
Welfare is INCREDIBLY expensive when you consider the impact it has on society and the creation of a class of of people raised on a culture of entitlement. Government assistance should be either a short-term bridge or part of a long-term solution for the disabled. You are not entitled to a standard of living paid for by other people, and there should be NO type of work you will not accept in order to feed yourself and your family.
... or have other people also previously believed that an Application Programming Interface meant that a company was actually *encouraging* other people to write to that API???
So, the judge is saying that the bits can't be in the same order unless you have a license?? Really??
It's always the same - they can travel thousands of light-years through interstellar space, but then they come crashing into our planet and leave a smoking hole. It's really hard for me to be concerned about an invasion by a civilization that never invented the parachute.
It's called "the web" for a reason - put a link to the video that is posted on youtube or wherever and you're done. Really doesn't matter to me either way - I won't watch 'em...
It is a picture of shoes and a pair of pants with some skin from her calves showing - that's all. It is NOT a picture of her co-worker - it is a picture of herself. No one was exposing anything. I guess the inference is that she's sitting on the toilet.
So - let's change the scenario slightly. Let's say she lost some weight and she proudly posts a picture of herself, fully clothed, but the outfit is tight enough to show she is obviously much thinner. Is that offensive? Inappropriate? Exhibitionist? What if she posts (again fully clothed) before and after pics from a boob job?
But set all that aside - judges make calls every day on harassment & inappropriate behavior - and they can do the same thing here. The bigger issues are that the employer wants her to give up a personal password for an "investigation", and that not complying meant she was fired. So - if someone reports that she has a porn magazine at her home, does that mean the school will demand to enter her home? This whole thing stinks. The employer is a jackass. The "friend" who reported her is a jackass. Kimberly is a typical clueless facebook user that doesn't understand that you need to separate real friends from people who shouldn't know what you post to your real friends.
Television, movies, magazines and online media continually gets more and more raunchy - yet our workplaces become more and more rigid and unrealistic. Our society is doomed.
The only guy I know who still goes to Best Buy is the completely technophobic friend that has to call me when his wireless mouse battery dies. He only goes there to buy $50 HDMI cables, which is a good source of laughter for me.
I don't need the FAA, the airlines, the author of TFA or anyone else to tell me how to behave in a confined space with several hundred other people. I admit that some people do apparently need that level of supervision, but this should be the job of the passengers sitting next to the idiot making the noise, or society in general, not the flight crew. A few shouts of "shut the fuck up, you blithering idiot" directed at the salesman on the phone, the corporate vice-president playing angry birds or the mother with the portable DVD player showing VeggieTales should be enough to get the point across.
If they want to have a rule that says "Don't annoy your neighbors during the flight", then fine - but arbitrary pseudo-science is not acceptable.
I've worked for spineless men that shifted their alliances every time the wind changed. I've also worked for women with big brass cajones that were willing to go toe-to-toe with anyone - and I've also had exactly the reverse...
In the old days, seeing a prompt on your 12" B&W TV was a major accomplishment, and getting "Hello World" to run made you a serious computer geek. But now, the learning curve to become even a novice developer is far steeper. The typical kid doesn't have the patience and/or foresight to be able to get to even the first rung on the developer ladder. It's much easier and more fun to learn how to download and install the latest patch for WoW - no programming required.
And yes, this is the first step on the road to separate the Morlocks from the Eloi...

If it gives all the WoW kiddies a job, I'm all for it.

Yeah, the increase in smug levels around San Francisco ruined any chance for the electric VW microbus to take off. ...props to South Park...

Now, if the story had been about mammoths that ate humans, THAT would be news.
They Rock!
But I'm really not a big fan of tzatziki sauce. What? It's a flying car? Not lunch? Well that's just stupid.
Did you look at the picture?? I'm thinking you have not. Watch this video to see the picture:

Kage Baker's "Company" stories, Harry Turtledove's WWII and post-Civil War series, and anything by Connie Willis.
Also, don't forget excellent hard SF authors like Jerry Pournelle, Larry Niven and Steven Barnes.
There are just soooo many!!!
The right question is: Who launched it at us?
