Uhh, am I just missing something here? Is this article a joke? Why is this posted on Slashdot?

Doesn't it seem strange that the only guy bashing the articles goes by the name necro2607? Methinks he must be part of the zombie cover-up conspiracy, trying to keep their plans a secret while they raise their unholy army of the dead to conquer the world.

I could call or mail, only to have some intern glance over or listen to what I said, and in return give me the closest canned script that works for this situation.
While your argument has some merit, it's falls under the trap of "one single vote never counts". Sure, you'll get the canned script, but in theory, it's the job of your senators and representatives to listen to this stuff from their constituents and represent you in Congress.

At the very least, you can find out if the people you voted into office are worth your vote next time. Case in point, I sent an email to all of my congressmen, and the only person who bothered responding back was Barack Obama. For sure, it was probably some congressional aid that replied, but it actually was to the point and wasn't a completely canned response. The fact that he actually devoted resources to respond to his constituents is why I'm hoping he'll make it as our next President.
  4. Re:Request on Guitar Hero III, 80s Tracks Announced · · Score: 1

Guitar Hero does not equal real guitar. My fiance and I both play guitar (we own 3 acoustics and an electric). Nevertheless, she loves Guitar Hero because it's a pick-up-and-play simulation that is much more forgiving than an actual guitar.

It takes a lot of practice to play guitar well, and she's still not quite a rock star since she's only practiced off and on for the past 8 years. It took me months and months of practice every day to get to the point of playing solos with any bit of decency.

The mere fact that most people cannot play a real guitar illustrates the amount of dedication it takes to learn it. Most people love the idea of being rock stars, but are unwilling to devote the amount of time necessary to become a real one, which is why an easy, fun game like Guitar Hero is so popular since it gives you much of the same experience while require almost none of the work.

  7. MythTV on Ubuntu on Ubuntu 6.10 is Out · · Score: 3, Interesting

Does anyone have any thoughts about MythTV on Ubuntu vs. other distros?

I'm a relative Linux noob, having only been using it for half a year. I ran Myth 0.19 on Fedora Core 5, but broke it somehow when I upgraded to 0.20. I ran into some sound bug that I couldn't figure out, so I took the easy way out and installed KnoppMyth, which has worked like a charm. However, I'm not in love with Knoppix, so I'm thinking about running trying Myth on Ubuntu.

As a relative noob, I really loved using Yum on FC5, but I haven't had as good of an experience with Apt on Knoppix. In my limited experience, I've had more issues with dependencies using Apt than I did with Yum. I know Ubuntu is also Debian-based and also uses Apt, but I've heard it's very noob-friendly, so I was wondering what merits there would be in switching from KnoppMyth to an Ubuntu-based Myth system.
