  1. At least they got something right... on ECA Takes Over GamePolitics.com, Talks Mission · · Score: 0

This is so dumb that we are going after the kids for buying the games... we need to make the stores responsible for there actions. Force Walmart to be pro-active.

  2. The key is quality on Sys-Admins Reading the Bosses Mail? · · Score: 0
Its all about the quality of the people hired to fulfill the role of sys-admin. Where I work, there are five people who have access to all of the boss' mail if we so choose. The key is that we all are people of integrity. The hiring practices of every institution needs to take in many factors when hiring IT, and should never go for the lowest bid.

Policies are more red tape vs. trust. Some compliance regulations and governing authorities require us to have certain policies in place, and in those cases, we need to make sure that the policy is realistic and makes sense - not just wording to avoid a problem.

  3. Re:Obligatory Manuel Quote on IE7 From a Firefox User's Perspective · · Score: -1
    You're kidding, right?!?

IE isn't the standard, no, it just happens to READ standard code on the internet.

What you're telling me is that you don't know how to lock down your network very well and put in proper controls. I'm guessing you are using a proxy to control what is being browsed and you are afraid of people using Firefox or a Mozilla product to browse, because you cant enforce the proxy within the program. If you would just setup your network correctly, your users wouldn't be able to bypass the proxy and then do that evil personal browsing on company time. And then, you could allow them to use a quality product such as Firefox - because your users would HAVE to enter the proxy information in the connection field.

Then again, there's the other side of the "greenhouse" effect which the environmentalists don't talk about. When in increase temperatures and CO2 levels, you encourage more plant growth. This is why greenhouses exist after all. All this extra plant growth is likely to keep things in equilibrium. While I generally agree with what you wrote I... You seem to have forgotton the fact that we are loosing "x" number acres of rain forest every friken day... That kinda screws the equilibrium.

  8. Women in IT/IS @ a Credit Union on Breaking Gender Cliques at Work? · · Score: 1

The Credit Union enviroment I work in, is actually 90% women. The IT department is 4 men, 1 woman. But the I.S. side (software and programming) of things is actually 6 women no men. I know that my experiences are vastly different than the "normal" realm but I haven't had any "normal" problems breaking the gender cliques... but I do have the wrong plumbing for a vast majority of the clique-esque conversations! Maybe I'm just better off.

  9. Re:Adapt or Die on Piracy Killing PC Gaming? · · Score: 1

Oh ya... piracy is killing the game industry... right. Tell that to the awesome guys (and gals) @ Starbase! They have NO copy protection on their software, and they reward their customers by not treating them like criminals. If more companies would take after their model, I think we could see a huge improvement in the pc software industry.

But on top of that, GMAIL is also in their beta for hosted email services. I am using that right now for my mail services instead of hosting it from my home. Damn fine program. Just like gmail, but my own domain, and googles service is free (as of right now) to use their hosted service. I wouldn't ever switch to any other hosting service. Gmail is the prime-choice for other professionals' alternate non-work email whom Im good friends with.
