If we never go back, then us going in the first place was little better than a once and done gimmick. I'd call it more a demonstration of humanities short attention span and lack of drive than a testament to man's advancement.
Furthermore, sending robots to the moon and exploring the oceans are not mutually exclusive. There's nothing preventing people from doing both.
Buying accessories to prevent bodily harm from a freaking cellphone or mp3 player seems pretty excessive to me. I'd sooner reconsider my purchase of such a device than go to these lengths...
what I have seen mentioned doesn't even rise to the level of criminality of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, and we can't even get those bastards impeached here.
Sounds to me we should be praising them for their effective enforcement of the constitution.
they'll stage a coup because they don't like what the guy had for breakfast.
No. He was in clear violation of their constitution by attempting to effectively dismantle democratic rule. That is not a trivial matter.
The people who ousted Zelaya in their "coup" consisted of the rest of the goverment, and were acting lawfully according to their constitution. They already had all the evidence they needed to justify his legal removal from power. This is just another example of how corrupt he was, but by no means the sole justification.
All of this is quite obvious if you actually look into what happened, unless of course you're a Chavez lackey.
Second, if distributing GPL'ed software by means that completely preclude it from being used without Windows is not a violation of the GPL, should it not be?
No. Stop being absurd. There are plenty examples of GPLd programs meant only for windows. While this might be a little silly in this case there is nothing "wrong" with it and you need to stop getting so upset about it.
The diagrams in the released PDF seem to indicate this is in the context of an air-burst type failure.
A failure of the rocket which involves the rocket simply crashing back into the ground doesn't seem to be covered here (though it's somewhat doubtable if such a failure could realistically take place).
True enough. Also the linked articles are unclear what, if any, propulsion mechanisms the escape pod has. It seems to me like they may be relying on the explosion of the engine failure to propel them out of the explosion.
If this is the case then I can very much see how the Air Force's report makes sense. Small chunks of burning propellent are sure to fly faster/farther then some hunk of metal.
To be fair, the survival rate of exploding space shuttles is currently 0% as well... At least the Ares as a mechanism to even allow for an early abort.
If I'm reading this right, the Air Force is saying that in the event of a complete failure (ie, the entire thing going to hell all of a sudden) the chances of survival would be zero.
This doesn't really indicate that chances of survival would be zero in all possible emergency abort scenarios.
I believe Disney owns Winnie the Pooh IP, at least in America.
Knowing that, regardless of whether it actually is PD in Canada or not, I'd expect one hell of a legal fight if you tried to use it. Disney's lawyers are about as ruthless as they come.

How many calls did you not recieve because the friend/nephew/neighbor who's good with computers helped them find their "internet icon"?

and even the upgraded version can be had for "free" through the advertising schemes
Why does this sounds even more unpleasant and risky than just installing Adobe Reader?
Right... being from Europe is racist. It all makes so much sense now...
Wait, what does software licensing have to do with getting annoyed at gits who don't know their job?
Anyone is free to vote for whoever they want. Now whoever I vote for may not be free to actually accept that position, but that is irrelevant.
I can vote for mickey mouse if I so choose, but in no way is mickey mouse elligible to be president.

Practicalities asside, that is the rational behind the 2nd ammendment.
Even if firefox is triggering it, it's clearly an issue with Xorg itself. Firefox, nomatter how crappy, should not be able to take out X.
At least they're not calling it Busybox/Linux. It's far more typing...
Yeah, I'm with this guy. This article is just plain terrible.
If you take it down now and we all just agree to pretend this never happened then the world will be a better place.

That flag makes GCC throw warnings for nonstandard code. Not really relevant here, besides its name.
Wow, that is one of the most incoherent posts I've seen on slashdot in a while.
I love that tag alluding to John Romero. It seems quite appropriate here.
It'd been done for a while, by dozens of people: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_systems#Distributed_file_systems/
I thought the prevelance of using salts with hashes obsoleted rainbow tables years ago.
"'The medication works by suppressing the "suicide mechanism" of cells"
IANAMD but to me that sounds like it'd actually increase your chances of cancer.
