Welll.... it does come down to some arbitrary distinctions. I would say that "age" like that of a human, is different from that of a single cell organism. Think of it... mitosis happens, two new copies of nuclear DNA exist... then the cell splits (I know, plenty of variation in the process....)... now...
do we have one old cell and one new one? If so, which is the old one? Or two new cells? Or are they both the old cell? Here we can show the age of a cell to go all the way back to its lineal origin, or... to be new with each generation..... so yah.... in those terms, age is pretty arbitrary.
On the other hand.... humans have a variable but fairly well defined life process that happens. We are not cells, we are just, mostly made up of them. Of course, I am completely leaving out any discussion of telomeres.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telomere which do indicate a sort of aging.
Firstly, they can't, reasonably audit all code going into the system by hand. This leaves some sort of automated code check, or monitoring the workloads in some way. Simple size of the workload doesn't help, that could be anything.
You could watch for library calls to hash functions but, they are easy enough to implement and get around that.
Even if you could detect the fact that I am hashing strings over and over again, you still wouldn't know why I was doing it. Am I researching hash functions? Am I processing bitcoin transactions (probably not an economical use), am I strength checking my own password? A groups passwords?
Hell I worked as an admin at another job. I was called into another admin's office one day to be shown a jumble of characters on his white board.... in the middle of them was my password. He had been tasked with strength checking all of our passwords.I was surprised that he got mine, but, in thinking about it later, it was close enough to being based on a couple of dictionary words that it wasn't very good.
Now, let me ask this.... after 70 years of being imprisoned and treated like second class citizens, why should pot heads even bother to apply for these licesnes? Why is it that they have to "forgive and forget"? Where is the restitution for generations of political oppression? What about the families the law has destroyed?
In short, why should they be the ones to start trusting you? I advocate they don't personally. Not until the reparations checks are paid and all records are expunged at a minimum.
And I feel the same way about people who support the law.
Screw your government and your laws, I see no reason why we should forgive the law for oppression.
If you are stupid enough to support laws that serve as little more than an excuse to take your rights to privacy away, then guess what, you have exactly what you asked for.
Until people like you are ready to talk about the restitution that you owe to pot heads for 70 years of oppression, then I see no reason that we should forgive you either.
Not my government, just the occupation force that I live under.
Until the governments of the united states hold a truth and reconcilliation comission to deal with the opression of pot heads, I don't see why pot heads should forgive them for 70 years of oppression.
What, they change a few laws and pot heads are supposed to just forgive, forget, and fall in line? Why the hell is that exactly?
I say, until they stop talking about allowing medical use, and start talking about reparations and expunging criminal records, then we have nothing to talk about with them.
Oh...and had I found this article (or read the actual intro to the cthulu one)... they actually list other names for each of the old ones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Old_Ones
So... I for one, welcome the coming of The Great Priest, The Master of R'lyeh! Let The Sleeping God awake!
Ahhh see... my lovecraft is more than a bit rusty and, I only read a few of the stories anyway. I was actually scouring wikipedia for a reference to a title that I could use for him, but eventually gave up and went with elder god:)
Have you ever actually tried telling that to someone who works for the so called "justice system"? It is amazing how fundamentally against understanding that point some people are.
However, I think you hit the nail right between the eyes.
You refer to "the law", I see only "the laws written by the illegitimate organization which likes to call itself my government". I can write things and call them "laws" too. The only difference is, I haven't duped a bunch of thugs into enforcing my will.
I really don't believe in an individuals ability to really change the law. I don't believe that this organization, which you may refer to as "the government" if you like, represents the people, or even particularly has our best interests at heart.
I see them more as a domestic occupation force than "my government".
So... change the law or don't. My problem is NOT with these so called laws AT ALL. My problem is with anyone who thinks that this organizations rules should be enforced.
I, for one, welcome the awakening of the Ancient Elder God. Perhaps he will finish the work of Al Queda, wiping away the pentagon and realizing their true mission, the liberation of Yog Sothoth!
Also, these look like much smaller drones, and they look like they are VTOL (does that apply to a vehicle that doesn't "go horizontal"?) so... during assent or decent, they should be vulnerable to much lower tech... like a rifle.
Internet, I go to a flea market several times a year where I have seen high powered argon lasers for sale. Big mofos too. I forget the wattage but, it wasn't measured in mW:)
I have a friend who was a Carpenter (technically still is...and despite my name, no, I am not) that has been out on disability since an unfortunate accident with a saw transformed the shape of his hand into something rather resembling a small uncooked steak. (its mostly back together and mostly working now, but not enough for him to be)
Anyway, he is now taking classes to get an associates degree and go into construction management. He asked me to come help him with his trig since he missed a number of classes due to a back surgery (I swear, some people just fall apart early... the guy is only 35!)
Let me tell you... I was unimpressed to the point that I am not sure I feel comfortable naming the school because I wouldn't want to get it wrong and malign the wrong institution. I mean, he was, understandably having difficulties, after missing many classes and being a 35 year old back in school for the first time since he got his GED @21.
The work though? It was a take home final exam, so, not being someone who likes to outright cheat, I tried my best to just review concepts as needed and get him to "find the answer". However, the test he turned in... I mean, I helped him all I could without violating my own sense of cheating him out of learning it.. and eventually called it a night since I had to work the next day....
When I left, I was thinking about it, and... if I turned in the same answers that he was, ona test in High School, I would have lost so many points it would have been failing grade. Seriously, he gave answers in decimal numbers, worked with decimal approximations rather than worked symbolically in radians with units of pi, etc.
Well... I was floored when I heard that he actually passed the course with like a B. I mean, there is only so much I can teach in 1 night, but.... they had him for a whole course... towards a degree... and THAT was the level of work that they would pass? No faith in that school.
Actually, math is not a process. Math is a purpose built, artificial human language designed to convey information about quantities and relationships between them.
Math is not science, however, it is one of the most important, fundamental languages for conveying scientific thought. "v=d/t" is a statement in the language of math relating velocity to change in distance and time.
I used to have a chemistry teacher in HS who said that, no matter what you plan to study later, as an undergrad, you should go for a hard sciences degree.
His reasoning? Even something like pre-med is a waste of time. No matter what the later schooling, no matter what the job, anything and everything that you learn is going to be retaught later. Even med students... 4 years of pre-med is just going to mean that your first year of med school is mostly review.
Kind of a waste when the logical training of a hard science and the required math will provide you with a logical foundation that can be applied to nearly ANY field.
Need we be reminded of the medical researcher who "rediscovered" integration? Or the 50 or so other medical papers that referenced is "new method"? Just think how much time a math class could have saved some people... if they had only known about integrals sooner!
Or worst he is one. It really is hard to maintain perspective when your paycheck requires you to have your head so far up your own ass that you can't see how little of what you do actually makes a difference, and how much of it is needlessly harming other people for little reason more than supporting the prison-industrial complex and auto insurance companies.
And you expect anyone trying to take out a predator drone with a home made rocket is going to obey those "laws", while planning to destroy "public property"? What fantasy world do you live in.
I never asked them to risk their lives for me. I also happen to know what kind of entitlement programs they have working in their favor (which I never asked for the privilege of paying for either). Retirement after 20 years of work? Making gobs of overtime pay for standing around doing what a flag man could do on details (yah I live in MA), getting an hour and a half added to their already inflated time sheets for every bogus traffic ticket they write....
all for what? So they can catch the occasional bad guy after the fact? So they can harass me on the roads for perfectly reasonable driving that happens to break the letter of the law? Fuck them. I would rather they get real jobs and stop sucking of the government tit.
All to enforce laws...written by corrupt liars, who don't even try to represent the people, or do much of anything but take care of their cronies and inflate their budgets so they can give cushy jobs to their buddies.
Honestly, I hope they do. I was thinking that it would make a good test target for a rail gun project... though, have to be really careful about how you fire it if you want to avoid killing anyone with a missed shot... or landing the bird on their heads.... oh well... small price to pay to restore safety and security to your nieghborhood. Can't let the biggest, most violent gang in the area get too much power.
Actually, I gave a grifter $10 once.... even though I knew he was a grifter.
He had come up to me with a clipboard trying to raise money for some charity. I spotted it immediately as a grift but... he was so good at it. I mean, he was really spot on, I actually enjoyed watching him work.
I handed him the $10 spot with a smile and moved on, my friend turned to me and said "You know that was a scam right" and I said "Yah I know, but that guy is slick, he puts on a good show, it was worth it."
Had kind of a similar feeling after one that I lived with moved out. I mean, he rightfully took me for about 3k in back rent, phone charges, and probably a few hundred more in drinks and other things (he sure "got me back later" all right)
When we caught him...oops, don't think he planned on his ex-roomate having my friends number and wanting my friend to get his shit out of her basement... thats when we found out he had been scamming them (landlord lived upstairs, they found over a years worth of bank notices, apparently he had been bouncing checks to the landlord and stealing the bounce notices from the mail).
Anyway... when we ran him out of town (well out of the apartment), and thats when the true magnitude started to come into focus. Within a week the owner of the bar we drank at came around asking about him... and the $3k advance they gave him to do their website!
Then the $900 phone bill (in my name) came in...
Turns out everyone had something about him that they noticed was off but dismissed. Even I had suspected that the whole "I spent summers in france with my family growing up" was a lie. He would always ask what time it was in french. It must have been all he knew because one day I looked at my watch and belted the time back to him in french, and I could tell he had no idea what I just said (even though he nodded yes, after asking me to repeat myself 3 times...:) )
Ahahahah I saw some dude trying that one time...and he was so bad at it... but... the clerk looked like he was so stoned, that he didn't know how to respond.
He kept trying to tell the clerk that he gave him a 20, and should get 10 more back, the clerk was pretty sure thats not true, but, was kinda dumbfounded. Eventually the guy tried "how about you give me a pack of smokes and we call it even".
I would guess thats likely... but not a foregone conclusion.
An accidental glitch could hide the same way. Its down a lesser used code path, so nobody found it. Its entirely possible that one of these guys, or someone else entirely, got his hands on a machine (maybe even stole one... possibly from a maintenance place....), found the glitch, and then concocted a plan to use it?
That doesn't even rule out it being an intentional glitch, he may have found the (or one of several) glitches that someone else added and is using more discretely, or is one "in the bag" to use after a different one.
Generally, yes, most plausible explanation is that it started as an inside job. However, it doesn't have to be, and even if it was, its not necessarily clear that he was in on that plan, could be an independent discovery....or who knows... maybe the developer's guy got really drunk in a bar one night and shot off his mouth to some stranger about how it worked.... he may still be out there, discretely hitting smaller jackpots.
Welll.... it does come down to some arbitrary distinctions. I would say that "age" like that of a human, is different from that of a single cell organism.
