No you are not. I enjoyed Beyond2000 immensely, and it is interesting to remember some of the "cutting edge" technologies that they talked about and "future tech" that they proposed, and many of those have now been surpassed.
Yes I know. I am a huge LX fanboi, but there are still niggles to sort out. I think there will be no "Year of the Linux Desktop", but that Linux acceptance and use will gradually increase until one day it is on a par with every other desktop OS out there.
I am purposely ignoring Linux niche markets such as servers et al, we are talking about the home user/gamer/office drone.
I read an interesting review a year ago that compared Vista/XP/Ubuntu as gaming platforms, and Vista and Ubuntu came out tops. The small advantages that Ubuntu (this was 6.10 or 7.04 methinks) had was because Vista was spanking new and drivers were not tops yet.
Vista was Quicker framerate wise than both the others, yet Ubuntu was the better overall platform, beating XP speed wise, and lagging behind Vista due to needing WINE to run the games.
That said about the "Year of Linux" I again hear about "Vista will be better once drivers mature.." over and over, it's been out a year, when will those drivers mature?
The dodgy internet connection I have in South Africa (yes we are basically at the butt end of internet connectivity...) today every few times my connection drops (I have always on ADSL)......and the lack of viagra spam in my spambox this morning...
Well, the old adage goes "If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted."
If you can get the employees to take ownership of their jobs and see this as an opportunity to:
a) Learn a new skill (especially for the non-tech savvy types) b) Reduce their work load c) Create an opportunity to expand their portfolio to the point they are promoted to run a department and/or administer a person that has been employed to do their old job,
they should buy into this and support the idea.
Unfortunately as with most great ideas the actual sale is more problematic than the implementation.
Yeah, I know. Are you from SA? We get updates on the news regarding car mortality on regular if infrequent intervals.
I know the figures for AIDS seem ridiculously high, but take into account that South Africa has the worlds largest (as in numbers) AIDS population of any country in the world.
Many AIDS related deaths are reported as Tuberculoses or similar because of the stigma that clings to the disease in rural areas...
AIDS is a big issue. We are losing more people to AIDS than to all other causes of death combined atm. And here our health minister is advocating curing AIDS with beetroot and other veggies.
Fighting over a drug that could potentially save/improve lives misses the point. Get it to the people! They desperately need it.
My first thought was "Only $10k?" well it's worth 7times as much currency wise were I come from, but it seems a small sum for someone like a lawyer to put up...
The photos that the dude with the kites originally took are awesome achievements if you take into account the way pictures were developed back then, but like you said, this is a way misleading article.
I was waiting for the actual part where they hoisted a home-made box camera (not hard to make, I made several...) onto a kite.
And besides, Google is pretty innovative still. Large or not, they still have that "edge" that seem lacking in larger companies.

We live in the future of yesteryear.
Yeah, and these are some of the most obscure games possible. Barring CIV of course... there are better comparisons out on teh web...
Bad form I know, I know. Dang /. for not having an "edit" option...
Here is the article I was referring to... and remember my OP was from memory so be kind...

The Internet gets cut off from Russia!

You are right, I misspoke. Aids RELATED deaths are mis represented as it is often not listed as one of the contributing factors to death.

In fact I'd say the sale is key.

Yeah, calling someone a "tool" has suddenly lost some of its insult value...

I was just about to post the same thing.

This suxors...
Customer: Okay, so I sent my msg, how do I pay for it?
Provider: Bend over please.
Since... uh no you got me.
Sigh - it's not available in South Africa, and possibly won't ever be...
Exactly.
And KDE or Gnome is just as easy and intuitive to use as an end-user as is the windows interface.
And with KDE being ported to Windows, surely the battle is starting to turn?
'Ministers in the Filipino government now understand Linux can do so much for so little outlay.'
There. That just about sums it up.
Oh that is just too awesome. Whodathunkit?
And chewy too!
You don't know where Canadia is!?
I see I misspelled ploughing. And that with FF spellcheck enabled!
Hold on... I just did it again... sems lik mistakes ahppen after oll...
THATS IT. I am moving to a tent in a trailer park... somewhere...
If it is the satellite in question it failed to initiate. It was launched Dec 2006 and never got going after successful launch.
It also has a 4% chance of ploughing into Canadia.
Irrelevant. Does he run Linux?
