  9. Pairity on Effective Optical Disc Repair? · · Score: 1

You know, I've always wondered why there isn't some decent pairity on the data for optical disks? With Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, there should be more than enough space to implement this on all but the most packed full versions. I don't know how badly this would affect read performance, but I'm certainly willing to wait an extra second or 3 of loading to avoid losing the entire data set.

  10. Re:Iron Filings, Magnetism, and the Floppy Problem on Effective Optical Disc Repair? · · Score: 2, Funny

If you take a very small magnet, (refrigerator magnets will do) and move the magnet AROUND THE CIRCLE of the disk, it will cause the magnetic bits to line themselves up correctly, saving your important data on those crappy old 3.5" disks. The greatest thing is that it's a magnet, so you don't even have to open up the 3.5" case to get at the disk inside. I've saved countless disks of their important data this way.

If you have a very steady hand, this will even work on a hard drive!

I guess you missed the news about Hurricane Rita eh? Luckily for the cops in Texas, the movement of they flying trees and the flying people was all relative, so they could still tune their radar guns.

The most important question for me before going to Best Buy to purchase is really how much of the proceeds go to the Ubuntu project. If it's 0 or a paltry sum (as I suspect) I'll go out of my way to tell people NOT to buy it from Best Buy. Preloaded on a computer, sure, but for anything else, get an Official Copy. Or, wait for a free CD from shipit and spend the money on an awesome T-shirt.

  17. Re:Will my tin foil hats on Tin Whiskers — Fact Or Fiction? · · Score: 1

I wore a pure tin hat for years until the whiskers started getting into my brain. After a few minor surgeries in my bathroom, (what, you thought I'd let someone ELSE cut into my brain??) I was satisfied that I'd gotten all those pesky whiskers out of there. So, having learned my lesson, I switched to aluminum hatgear, and in the course of it's use, I've found that it is JUST AS EFFECTIVE!! So don't let anyone tell you that tinfoil isn't as effective as aluminum foil. I'm certainly satisfied and will continue to use aluminum unless there's another unforeseen problem, like aluminum ears or toes or fingers or something...
