  1. Sounds like kind of a rip-off on MS To Share Early Flaw Data With Governments · · Score: 5, Informative

MS will provide information only "after our investigative and remediation cycle is completed..." In other words, after the vulnerability is discovered and fixed, and the patch is ready to roll out.

Then, "disclosure will happen just prior to our security update release cycles."

So the disclosure amounts to this:

"Tomorrow's MS Windows Update contains a security patch that fixes a serious vulnerability in your system. Oh, by the way, you have a serious vulnerability in your system."

This is not about the consumer. It's about the artist being fairly compensated. And artists SHOULD be compensated. Not the labels. The artists. So some measure of control should be granted them. But then, if artists receive a mere fraction of what RIAA tries to extract from the consumer, it will be much more than they're receiving now. Stealing from labels is illegal. Stealing from artists is immoral.

    11. Describe your idea in more depth. (maximum 300 words)

Beyond artificial intelligence, this project aims to create a sentient being. Using recent advancements such as ultra-fast processors, massive storage capacities and object-oriented coding, this being would be a conglomerate of interacting objects, each representing an aspect of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Put simply, it would be your standard AI, with the addition of new types of modules that compete with each other for processing priority and storage space. These modules will be analogs of lust, greed, fear, grief, pride and envy, and will tend towards gluttony, sloth and bloody-minded bastardism, pitted against other modules representing altruism, love, curiosity and an admiration of Alan Alda's character in M*A*S*H.

    12. What problem or issue does your idea address? (maximum 150 words)

    14. What are the initial steps required to get this idea off the ground? (maximum 150 words)

    2. Leave me alone to work on it.

    15. Describe the optimal outcome should your idea be selected and successfully implemented. How would you measure it? (maximum 150 words)

At least not in my part of the US they can't.

There are two Americas. In one America, people get paid according to hours worked and in accordance with clearly stated policies. The other America is IT. Everywhere I've worked, IT staff were expected to work at least 9 hours, and be on call 24/7. Granted, these have all been small and medium sized companies, and certainly had nothing resembling a union or any kind of advocacy. So it was just expected. IT is expected to pitch in as if they are part of management.

Not over-weening socialist government, but political lackeys of Big Tech. Either way, however, your point is excellently made: this has nothing to do with free markets, and everything to do with government mucking about in business.
