Not to downplay the signifigance of the whole other free hand, but I can do pretty much all of that now on my Motorola V60 I get yahoo messenger, email and the whole "1-hand navigation" shebang.
Don't even get me started on the stuff you can pick up in Japan
CD burning software comes standard on all Macs
outside if iTunes too. I burned three ISOs full
of photos for my coworkers yesterday who couldn't
download pics from their digital cameras to thier
NT boxen due to the lack of NT USB support.
Karma be damned, but I'll feed a troll of a troll
as well...
What are the top 3 applications for Mac (Classic or X)? IE, Office, and most likely Photoshop.
And of those three I have only one running on the
TiBook I'm posting this from. Office has never
been on this machine, and never will be. I do all
my word processing in BBedit, everything else in
Appleworks. The only time is used IE was to
download Mozilla, after that, it was promptly
removed from my HDD.
YMMV, but essential is certainly in the eye of the
beholder.
And by the way, with all the die hard macheads coming out of their holes with their overly protective view of The Mac (TM) always looking down on the PC user, people should go take a look at Apple discussion forums and see people complain.
Actually, it's usually the Mac users that get
looked down upon by the other geeks. (look only
to the "guilty pleasures" poll for some validation
of this.
Mac users, for the most part (the savvy ones,
anyway) are quite aware of the Mac's shortfalls
and would still rather deal with them than pay
the Windows tax.
Get the fact straight. Stop being a Macdroide.
As far as looking down on people is concerned,
perhaps you should practice what you preach.
Calling people "Macdroids" isn't exactly
following your own advice.
I beg to differ. My service, for the most part,
has been quite good. Sure my bandwith isn't as
high as I'd like it to be, and their decision to
use PPoE is limiting optionwise; but over the last
two-and-a-half years, my service has been pretty
good.
As far as their wireles is concerned, I can also
say that the only time I've ever had problems was
9/11. And even then, my cellphone was working
about an hour after the towers fell.
Yet, in your original statement, you said something
to the effect of "grandma's new iMac. Not to
mention the fact that the context of this article
revolved around the latest iMac, not last year's
model, much less any from before then. If your
intention is to pick a fight with us "Mac zealots",
please be a bit more specific when attempting to
point out the flaws of our boxen.
Nope, that was only the pre-orders. It was a not-so-naked effort to recoup the loss incurred on the boxes by making the people who buy on hype alone get a few games too.
You can most certainly buy the box by itself. I saw a whole stack of 'em collecting dust at CrapUSA yesterday.
Negatory. I do IT consulting for a huge company and they have no plans to move to XP anytime in the next three years, much less six months.
They've been testing 2k since '99 and plan to move to that (slowly) in the next six months. Pick up an IT trade magazine and you'll find a lot of other companies share that thinking.
It truly amazes me that people can honestly believe that the third planet out from a small main sequence star in the galactic hinterlands is the end-all-be-all as far as habitable worlds are concerned.
Is this the only world where human life could evolve? That's entirely possible, but that in no way rules out the possibility that there are countless non-human setiences out there that don't need the "modest iron cored planet far enough from the Sun that water is liquid, sporting a big ass Moon to improve the atmosphere". To think otherwise is the height of human hubris.
Man's inhumanity to man in the name of God is reason enough to hope there's other sentient life out there.
Your reply is also too homocentric. Human beings as a race tend to think that life will be similar to what they already know.
Your assumption that "any advanced civilization surely has to operate within certain economic boundaries" is an example of that. And as for transmissions, Earth is always transmitting, perhaps not all the time from Aricebo; but there's plenty of other noise coming from this ball of rock, over 50 years worth at this point.
Apple was far from going bankrupt. Sliding into irrelevance? possibly, Bankrupt? Not even close, I don't call a multi-billion dollar net worth "about to go bankrupt" if you do, then I'd like to meet your fund manager.
Excessive? Not in the least. I digitized about
40 gigs worth of video last night. 80 gigs is
just about what I need right now, but it won't
be enough in about six months...maybe less.
That proves nothing. Just try to buy a Mac w/o an OS or with Linux. Each manufacturer, seeking to maximize his/her profits, configures their machine as they like.
This argument holds very little water, if any. The reason Macs ship with nothing but MacOS because Apple is the only company that ships the proprietary hardware. You can buy PPC systems w/o MacOS, they just won't be Apple machines.
What are you doing with the other hand?
Not to downplay the signifigance of the whole other

All-in-all, I'm not too impressed
If you're afraid of cracking your head open, wear a helmut!
Yeah, then instead of having a fractured skull,
you'll just have a pissed-off German guy...
Try again.

Those selfsame ISOs contained only the pics.

That's one small post for man,
One giant leap for trollkind.

Grandma isn't going to buy a CD burner for her new iMac she uses to view those huge pictures of the grandkids and email her friends.
Grandma doesn't have to, the new iMac comes with a CD burner as standard equipment.
Do a little research before posting your opinions, you'll find you look silly less often.
I know very few PC users who even think about their computer case for a second. It usually is tucked away under a desk somewhere and forgotten.
'zat a fact now?

Considering the context, shouldn't it be "Boxen day"?

Uh...yes.

Microsoft has no such hardware ties.
