Uh, what polls are you looking at? Your buttboy's neck and neck with Bubba in all the ones I've seen recently. They're both third behind Lincoln and JFK for the greatest presidents ever.
And honestly, what exactly has the shrub done for you that inspires such ridiculous loyalty?
You do know that MS predates most of those "Home Computers"?
And that has exactly WHAT to do with any of this?
Hell I got a C64 when I was 6 (1986) and I'm pretty sure (remember its been a good long time) that the operating system on that was Microsoft BASIC V2.
And your Microsoft-fueled myopia fails you there as well. The OS for the C64 was written by none other than Commodore themselves. Microsoft did, however provide their versions of DOS to both Altair and Apple. Which of course, leads me to your next point...
Anyway I wouldn't consider Apple or any of the others ground braking considering you were locked into hardware they chose and programmed for.
You are such a shill. Even the hardcore 'dozeheads know if there were no Apple, the GUI concept wouldn't be where it is today. (And yes, all of you "they stole it from PARC" parrots can shut the fuck up now, we know from whence it originated.)
Other than Apple, pretty much the only game in town was MSDOS if you were looking at running a personal computer. (At least, that was the case after they fucked over the poor guys that did DRDOS and convinced IBM that their version wasn't as good and then cut and ran on OS2 development.)
So, basically, to sum up, if you honestly believe that MS was the sole innovator of the personal computer revolution, you're a fucking idiot.
Gee and when can I get a replacement for my UMAX PowerPC Mac Clone?
When you get out of 1995 and realize that the Mac clone era was ill thought out and had it continued, you wouldn't even have an Apple to bitch at today.
Or how about upgrading the OS? Uh Never? And why is that?
See above. Then spring for a new Mac, or get yourself a generic X86 box if the price of a new Mac is too steep for you and stop holding Apple responsible for not supporting eight-year-old hardware from a vendor that would have cut thier throats given enough time.
Having fewer uses. For instance, having much less software available for it. Having much less hardware available for it.
So, in other words, you're simply trolling... Thanks for clearing that up for us.
But still, since I've got karma to burn and I like taking the bait from time to time, here goes. With the exception of a few software suites, anything you can find for 'doze has an analog on the Mac. There might not be as much, but it's there. Same goes for hardwae. But you knew that, either that or you're far more ignorant than you should be.
Ah, but the damage has already been done. The parent is now the proud owner of a "-1 interesting" due to the craven bitches who modded him down with a bunch of overrated's to escape the metamod. =P
I'll believe it when I see it. The description of the case alone leaves me a bit suspicious. No ports on the back, just a square box with a USB and a FW800 port on the front? That seems to go against pretty much all of Apple's industrial design dating all the way back to even before the original Mac.
They didn't kill it, just delayed it. according to IMG It's still on the way. It's being ported from the PC version, so there still may be a lag time between PC release and Mac release. (further screwing Mac users somewhat, damn you Microsoft!) but it's still coming as of yesterday.
Apple is what people buy when they have large amounts of other-people's-money to spend and have an unbalanced obsession with looking cool.
Kind of a blanket statement, no?
I for one most certainly didn't use anyone else's money but my own when I bought every last one of my Apple boxes, from my first//c to the TiBook I'm composing this on. I cut my teeth technologywise on Apple machines. Do I appreciate some of the less-than-customer friendly things they've done? Of course not. I bought them because they got the job done and didn't get in my way too much in the process. But at the same time, I didn't buy any of these machines to "look cool". (Hell, up until OS X, Mac owners in most computer circles were far from cool anyway)
Bottom line, as always, YMMV, but Apple's still the best way to go if you're going to buy a box and not build one yourself. (and before you trolls come at me with the "you can't build an Apple box", I'm talking computers in general, both X86 and PPC)
Hey, maybe microsoft will require a new license every DAY you'd need to obtain over the phone (toll call) for each PC you have every single time you want to boot your PC. They might require some brain implant to look at the screen, too. You never know, they ARE Microsoft. Apple, on the other hand, will begin to incorporate time-release cancer fighting chemicals in the keyboard and mouse with each new mac they sell! Apple INNOVATES!
No, no, no... you got it wrong. Apple will only innovate with the anti-cancer keyboard and mouse AFTER Microsoft comes out with the one that gives you cancer if you use an unregistered version of Longhorn. Everybody knows that... =P
If I have a bunch of DRM'd AAC files that I purchased from the Apple music store, and that can only be listened to in iTunes (a MacOS only program), I may think twice about buying that speedy new windows box:) (yes, you could burn to CD and rip the CDs into new AACs, but what a PITA!)
You defeated your own argument by admitting you could burn the downloaded tracks in CD audio format and then do whatever the hell you wanted with them.
Pain in the ass or not, you've still got options. And as I said in my original reply, iTunes is currently being written for 'doze.
Then why do people always protest Microsoft's bundling of browsers, media players, etc with the OS?
Because Microsoft does it to lock people into OS dependency maybe? There's a big difference between putting a music store in a music app and bundling a browser/media player in an OS.
If Apple is "good" for bundling applications and not giving consumers the choice (for example, the music purchasing ONLY works with iTunes), then why is Microsoft "bad" for including IE and Windows Media Player with the OS? And can you imagine the outcry if Microsoft began selling music inside Windows Media Player? Slashdot would be screaming about the monopoly.
Are you serious? Your comparison fails on many levels. Especially when you consider Apple's going to release an iTunes for Windows. You are either an elaborate troll, an astroturfer or someone grasping at straws, for what reasons, I have no idea.
That would explain why the agents can't just do whatever they please.
I think it's more like the recurring argument you hear from the pro-PvP camp in MMORPGs. AIs are limited by their programming, whereas humans aren't. Bottom line, the agents won't expand beyond their initial parameters because they can't. They don't know how to make use of exploits in the system. Humans do and will.
This has interesting implications for Apple trying to sell more expensive hardware when the same apps are available on cheaper Wintel hardware. Is this inevitable?
It's one app, man. And the motive, as has been said elsewhere here, is to push the music store. That's it, that's all. The only implications are how much money Apple's gonna make selling 99 cent songs to 'doze users. That and possibly an answer to why it was so hard for other online music vendors to make a Mac client.
Well, a few of their friends as well as some of the
guys at Bioware themselves are Macheads. They did it
partially to shut us up. =)
Hell with that. 68040s baby, all the way.
Hence why I said only "it was my understanding" in the original post. Take it for what it's worth, which ain't much.:P
Actually, it's worth more than you know... I'm
pretty sure Gaiman didn't write this
in a complete vacuum...
Enron, Anderson, and MCI are the tip of the iceberg, corruption-wise. As far as the Gov is concerned, they WERE the iceberg.
Not even. The iceberg now is Martha Stewart and
she's a freakin' small fry compared to the likes of
Ken Lay.
You're right though, give the unwashed masses their
bread and circuses and you could sell the whole
damn country from under them.
Uh, what polls are you looking at? Your buttboy's

Yeah. Ok, sparky...

Good point. Apple people are willing to pay more for a less useful product. They should start an advertising campaign around that.
Define "less useful".
Ah, but the damage has already been done. The parent is now the proud owner of a "-1 interesting" due to the craven bitches who modded him down with a bunch of overrated's to escape the metamod. =P
120 minutes was mostly videos. It was their
"alternative music" show back in the early 90s.
Maybe you're thinking of something else?
Anyone know when all the Mac trolls showed up on Slashdot?
About the same time the virulently anti-Mac trolls
showed up. So yeah, they've been here since the start.
They're here, some of their cases are clear, get used to it.
Whoops, thanks for that, too early in the morning
with no espresso yet, my brain inserted a "no" in
front of that "with additional ports in the rear".
I'm still skeptical, but that's a bit more reasonable.
I'll believe it when I see it. The description of the

Can you tell me how to beat the lost level boss in photoshop?
10% Guassian blur followed by a watercolor and
mezzotint artistic filter combo. Works every time.

If the whole world acted upon "an eye for an eye" then everyone would be blind.
Ah, but in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man
is king!
Moral? You get one eye poked out, hide out and wait
for the poking to stop, then declare yourself king.
So the 95% who are jumping in the this movie sucked bandwagon are the ones sucking the d***? Thank you for your candour, senator...
