Um, You missed his point. All of these groups 'could' be treated in the same was as you currently view Muslims
No they couldn't be. That's the problem with his post.
Were you in London while the IRA were bombing? I went to school with somebody who who lost a leg in an IRA bombing. Which is far closer to me personally then any body killed by a Muslim terror attack.
One personal experience is utterly meaningless.
In some cases reputations are earned. In this case popular media is portraying all followers of the Muslim faith as being fundamentalists - and some people less capable in critical thinking are believing it.
It's not the media's fault. The media doesn't hold Muslims at gunpoint and demand them to engage in terrorism, honor killing, rioting, gangraping and whatnot. Why don't you treat Muslims like sentient beings instead of assuming that they're retards who don't know what they're doing?
This isn't about "outsiders." Jews have developed a reputation for financial conspiracy and troublemaking (which is strictly their own fault). As a result, anyone who looks like they might be a Jew is subjected to extra scrutiny. It's just common sense.
I fail to see how the mythical Zionist Conspiracy is somehow comparable to the very real phenomena of Islamic terrorism. Islamic terrorism occurs virtually everywhere, and there have been more than 10,000 attacks since 9/11 (moderate estimate), not to mention countless failed and disrupted attacks. Urban violence and instability are also problems. Islamic enclaves are already a reality in Europe, and in France the violence has turned to urban warfare, with police officers and emergency personnel subjected to attacks and ambushes while buildings are destroyed at random. Honor killings and gangrapes are becoming routine, and crime rates keep rising. Threats, infiltration and political pressure don't make things any easier. Of course, many of the problems are enabled by politicians who not only let these things happen, but actively assist in the process.
This isn't about "outsiders." The Irish have developed a reputation for drunken violence and terrorism (which is strictly their own fault). As a result, anyone who looks like they might be Irish is subjected to extra scrutiny. It's just common sense.
I'm sorry, was this meant to be taken seriously? You're saying the IRA is comparable to Islamic terrorism?
This isn't about "outsiders." The Japanese and Germans have developed a reputation for covert operations on behalf of their homelands while living in the United States (which is strictly their own fault). As a result, anyone who looks like they might be Asian (it's too hard to tell the difference) or German is subjected to extra scrutiny. It's just common sense.
I don't even know what this means.
The fact is that Jewish, Irish, German and Japanese people do not have the kind of reputations you're fantasizing about. They don't exist, and there's no reason for them to exist, just like there's no reason why Buddhists would have a reputation of being violent terrorists. Muslims practise, support and defend terrorism and other manifestations of Islamofascism so much that they have developed a reputation for it. Therefore people are suspicious of them. You seem to be saying that it isn't their fault. Well whose fault is it? Are Muslims not free agents capable of making their own decisions?
As usual, I get modded "flamebait" for challenging Slashdot's official leftist dogma.
It's simply a fact that many Muslim politicians in non-Muslim countries have done and said very questionable things. For instance, a Muslim member of Israel's Knesset called on Muslims and Arabs to "liberate" Jerusalem. A politician in the Netherlands was caught giving her support to a banned Islamic organization seeking worldwide Islamic dominance. There are many more examples.
In general, Muslims just aren't reliable. This isn't my fault, and no "right wing extremists" made them that way.

Islamic terrorists care very much about the US Constitution, because it's against Islam, just like the laws and principles of European countries are against Islam.
I didn't think it was possible to bring up US foreign policy in a discussion about perpetual motion Well done, sir. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and complain about Bush in this thread.
I cracked my legal copy of Spellforce 2 because it has Starforce. I also cracked my legal copy of System Shock 2 because it stopped working after XP SP2.
I can tell that there's no point in talking to you. You're just looking for an excuse to rant about the evils of America, just like all the other cool kidz. You know exactly what I'm talking about, but pretending otherwise.
Japan was clearly fertile ground for democracy for whatever reason, whereas Islam is not. The difference between Western and Islamic culture is very deep and profound.
No, your point was that evolution somehow gives us the right answer to any given moral dilemma, and therefore we have no need for moral philosophy. Clearly this is incorrect.
I'm also pretty wary of people who think there's really no right and wrong. It's nothing but cowardice.
I never said religious people and philosophers are the only ones capable of doing so. The point was that humans don't just inherently have answers to all possible moral issues, as you seemed to be implying.
It doesn't matter that the Dalai Lama wouldn't say the same things. The point was that people are probably automatically going "lol pope," so what if it was someone else instead?
Buddhism as a "religion" is not about telling people what's good or bad
Then what is the Noble Eightfold Path supposed to be? What are the Precepts for?
although the Catholic church is by far the most pedophilic religious institution around, stemming from its insane rules preventing priests from marrying -- getting rid of the church wouldn't get rid of pedophilia, but it would remove one of the most institutionalized sources of the problem
The Catholic Church doesn't directly command priests to practise pedophilia. It's just a side-effect of something else. In contrast, Islam directly condones pedophilia, and Mohammed was a pedophile himself.
I think one of the most amazing things about Slashdot is how people can always find a way to somehow start ranting about Bush and Iraq, no matter what the subject is.
I haven't played Mass Effect yet, but it doesn't strike me as science fiction. It's a space opera like Star Wars. If you want to call Mass Effect science fiction, you have to compare it to movies like Stalker, Solaris, 2001 and Blade Runner.
So dropping a bomb on a target knowing that there are going to be civilian casualties is somehow better than randomly blowing up some civilians ?
Yes. Yes it is.
Soldiers aren't going to be punished by their superiors, either. They're going to be punished by a military court...
I'm at a loss for words. What were you thinking when you came up with this argument?
Terrorists will be arrested and sentenced or extradited by pretty much any civlized nation on this planet.
And?
Shooting down civilian airliners is apparently allowed, then. But only if you're military. If you're a terrorist, it's a big no-no and any civilized country will stick you in jail if they get a hold of you.
Huh?
Can't be better than yours, with your rosy view of military justice.
It is an absolutely 100% indisputable fact that terrorists deliberately target civilians as a matter of policy and that nobody is going to punish them for it. The US military, on the other hand, does not allow the same kind of behavior. Just because their justice system isn't perfect doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or that it isn't used.
Your logic pretty much goes that since the US isn't perfect, it is therefore absolutely no different from crazy terrorists. Brilliant.

On the other hand, Muslim politicians working in non-Muslim countries haven't exactly proven to be the most reliable bunch of people.

Copy protections sure are useful.

There's this thing called "context" which might tell you what kind of freedom we're talking about.
Japan was clearly fertile ground for democracy for whatever reason, whereas Islam is not. The difference between Western and Islamic culture is very deep and profound.
Afghanistan didn't "descend" into anything, and it was never free. What are you talking about?

There is debate and philosophy within Christianity.
Basic morality is no doubt driven by evolution, but it says nothing about more complicated issues that philosophers and religious people ponder.
Then what is the Noble Eightfold Path supposed to be? What are the Precepts for?
The Catholic Church doesn't directly command priests to practise pedophilia. It's just a side-effect of something else. In contrast, Islam directly condones pedophilia, and Mohammed was a pedophile himself.
Hahahahaha.

The campaign isn't restricted to the Internet. Many methods can be used to disrupt the Church.
Surely one criminal organization mainly based in the US is the same thing as a few billion religious people scattered all over the planet!
Yes. Yes it is.
I'm at a loss for words. What were you thinking when you came up with this argument?

What the fuck? Even by Slashdot's absurd standards, this moderation makes no fucking sense. How was I trolling?
