    This is not an attempt to start a flamewar, however, automatix really f00bared my breezy install, if you want dvd functionality and other nice stuff, i suggest that you read the forums. Beryl doesn't work satisfactory with my setup, using a nvidia card, and on my old rig, using ati, it was even more pain, as ati's driver doesn't support aiglx (compositing). compiz works so-so.. but it looks nice.. :D Just enjoy it!

    i hate to disapoint you, but the gp is correct.. serenity was a hyped up bad scifi-movie.. and i've seen a lot of them.. i laughed hard when i saw the article headline.. that movie sucks.. the series was ok.. somewhat lame in the last episodes.. but still.. nowhere near Blade Runner, Star Wars, Aliens or other great movies.. :D

    and as a painfully knowing user, dont do this with debian sid neither, if you don't know what you're doing.. :D sometimes you'll mess things up when you're walking on the edge..

    yeah, with the correct drivers, not exactly out-of-the-box.. i havent tried suse since suse 5, but i'm sure you're right about it's userfriendlyness, and i'm glad you like it.. tell people to use it..
    i use ubuntu, and i like it, so i tell people to use it.. my point being: use what makes you feel comfortable.. :)

    a few notes on your comments.. they're overall quite correct, except this one.. 4. a nice long 2.5 year honeymoon.. if you dont like the setup, why get involved from the beginning? 5. debian testing = ubuntu stable, this is quite true, and before ubuntu, i used to run debian testing at home.. at work, debian stable.. for all the lovely reasons noted above.. :)

    this is however not true for Feisty Hurd 5, (i installed a few days ago), so we can only hope they keep the install only server menuoption at boot time in final..

    If you've ever used a gun of any kind, you'd at least know that the sound of "racking" is quite loud, and even if you could remove the muzzle-sound, you'd still hear the mechanism.. unless this is what you mean with a locked bolt, which i assume it is, but in that case, you'd have to reload after each shot..

    Windows? Have a laptop with a nice sticker saying designed for WinXP, but Diablo 2 ran so poor, i decided to try it under cedega.. now it runs perfectly, so in my humble opinion, the problem is windows..

    A Few weeks ago in Great Britain, some people were pissed of about automatic cameras that trapped speeders, hence they sent mailbombs to the ministry of traffic.. I generally dont condone violence, but these guys have it coming.. So why dont you make as a Brit and bomb 'em?

    as always on slashdot.. say something bad about the united states of warmongers, and you will be modded into oblivion.. well.. the parent is correct.. i'd love to see the USA disarmed, and George W. Bush hanged for warcrimes against the iraqi people. On another note, i was quite happy to see Saddam hang, but he should've been hung by the hands of his people.. not US hands.

    All the mail i receive from companies that i have not requested, is from my point of view Spam, and therefore gets reported as spam. I fail to see why many companies still believe that they have some right to mail me their commercials.. if I'm interested, i find their webpage. / Mark

    everybody should pay more taxes.. we are living well above the standards we could afford if we took in the cost to the environment in the calculation, but since we don't, we over-expend..

    hehe.. you do have a point there.. and methane is also a greenhouse gas.. :) but anything that keeps emissions down is good in my book.. i would love to see the United States sign the Kyoto protocol and lower their emissions!

    the problem isn't that it's impossible to dispose of the electronic goods in a good way, the problem is that your average joe isn't ready to pay that price, hence the USA sends of a lot of their electronics crap where it wont bite them in their asses for a few years to come.. but believe me when i say that it will, and you will (and have already started) pay for the way that you mistreat the environment! // Mark ps. yeah, i'm Swedish, and yeah, i'm very pissed about the fact that your nation singlehandedly puts out over 25% of the global emissions of carbon dioxide, and lots of toxins in our common ecosystem. .ds

    the university where i study supply a netconnection in all of the dorms and student housings.. should you for any reason send spam mails (loads) , use forbidden p2p apps, or get infected with a worm , they will kill your netconnection, until you have fixed the issue. This is the way all isps should work.
