I agree with you that no one really dreams of moving to Sacramento for any reason, but a lot of people end up there. As a UC Davis graduate working for a software company in the Sacramento area (El Dorado Hills technically, about 40 minutes east of Sac), I'd have to say it does seem like a little version of Silicon Valley in some ways. Not Sacramento itself, to be more specific Folsom and El Dorado Hills, because there's a huge Intel campus in Folsom, and lots of little tech and software companies strewn around the whole area. I wish there were more software companies in Sacramento proper though, because when I moved from Sac to Folsom to reduce my commute stresses my cost of living doubled. Stupid sub-burbs.

I've had many strange experiences like this in dreams. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't just that my subconscious is so perceptive it can practically predict the future through extrapolation, but sometimes there's some comfort in believing otherwise.

My fiance died in August, and in the following two or three weeks I had several dreams about her. In some she was just trying to show me she was happy and tried to make me feel better, but there was one that really made me question. I don't remember the exact date, but it was in the middle of the week after her funeral, between Aug 11 - 16th, she appeared in a dream to show me a meteor shower, which we sat and watched together in the dream, something we never got to do while she lived. The next day my brother told me about the Perseid meteor shower that had peaked the previous night, which I had been unaware of.
Now, I will admit that it's possible somehow that my subconscious did know of the meteor shower and invented this dream out of forgotten memories, but I like to think that she came back specifically so I wouldn't miss something beautiful that we always wanted to experience together.

    Standard looney disclaimer applies.

My vote for Nader was not a vote for Bush, and I doubt many of the other were either. I have no trouble believing that there are 5% of voters in America who feel the same and would never vote for the Democratic or Republican candidate because it's obvious that they are both in the pockets of lobbyists.

I'm sorry, but as a geek I'm only going to vote for someone with an ounce of intelligence and common sense, not the one who needs the votes to beat the greater of two evils. Nothing is ever going to change unless the greater population of the US realizes that professional politicians, regardless of party, are all the same. I don't think I even have to look up a reference to answer this.

    1. Maybe chimps have shorter lifespans. Thus there have been more generations of chimps to mix and mingle the chimp gene pool. Not necessarily, Cheetah from the original Tarzan movie is still alive. Maybe in the wild they don't live nearly as long, but it's not genetic.

    2. Perhaps chimps have a bigger gene pool. More chimps=more genetic variety=more chance for beneficial genes to surface. Bigger than 5 billion people?

    3. Maybe human DNA doesn't have the same genetic variety as chimp DNA. Thus the variability in chimps could be greater than in humans. I suppose the difference of a chromosome could make some difference, but supposedly one of our specific chromosomes looks like two of the chimp's chromosomes melded together.

    4. Perhaps the population density has kept chimp DNA in greater flux. Humans have ranged all over the planet, thus human genes don't get as much of a chance to mix. I think this is backwards.

    5. Maybe human evolution has slowed because there are different social pressures on our mating practices. It's not all about physical prowess and attractiveness with people. Certain families/tribes don't mix with certain others, or perhaps only mix with others. Religion, money, power, history, language, etc all affect how (with whom) humans mate. Chimps are free from these pressures. Spot on.

Well, not responding per se, really more of a form letter about the war in Iraq which related in no way whatsoever to my comments about criminals in the white house, but it's nice to know that senators get enough complaints about Iraq that every email response pertains only to that issue.

Thank you for contacting me about the war in Iraq . I appreciate hearing from you.

As you may know, on March 23 and March 29, 2007, the House of Representatives and the Senate respectively approved historic legislation to begin bringing our troops home and ending the war.

I was proud to vote in favor of a war spending bill that will not only provide the resources needed for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan but will also require the President to begin withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq within 120 days of enactment, with all U.S. forces being redeployed from Iraq by March 31, 2008 except for a small contingent remaining for security purposes.

After four years of failed strategy in Iraq , Congress has at last sent a clear message to the President, a message that it is time to start bringing our troops home. We need to redeploy our troops out of Iraq as part of a sorely needed new policy on Iraq, one that emphasizes diplomatic and political methods - not military strategies - as the best way of bringing stability to Iraq.

Since American forces went into Iraq in March 2003, more than 3,200 of our troops have been killed and more than 24,000 have been wounded. The clear reality is that putting additional U.S. troops in the middle of a civil war will only result in the loss of more American lives and will not make up for the lack of a political solution to solve this deadly conflict.

Please be assured that I will continue doing all I can to bring this tragic and ill-fated war to an end. Once again, thank you for your letter and for caring deeply about this critical matter.
