  1. Re:Ungrateful Bitching on Firefox 2.0 RC3 Released · · Score: 1

I'd have to agree, sure adding features just adds more bugs, but they should fix the memory issues, even little by little. Flash is a bitch, really fucking annoying. Lucky for mozilla, the web community will praise Firefox, until it doesn't deserve it. They should keep that last bit in mind.

  2. Re:For people who complain about GIMP on KOffice 1.6 Released · · Score: 1

Now thats not quite fair. Sure there are plenty of idiots, but I personally hate the way GIMP does things. If you want to convince anyone to switch to an open source or free alternative to Photoshop, it better be easy to get accustomed to, something familiar, and GIMP fails at this. Hopefully Krita succeeds. Like I mentioned before, I am looking forward to a windows release.

  3. Re:Marketer alert? on KOffice 1.6 Released · · Score: 2, Interesting

I haven't ever used Krita before, but they win by default if they have a better UI than GIMP. As for OpenOffice, wouldn't it be wiser to not bother to compete with them until their own stuff can run on Windows?

  4. Re:No-CD Cr4kz: How Can You Trust Them? on Pirates Vs. Publishers · · Score: 1

How can I trust that a game's copy protection is not gonig to fuck up my computer? Once that incident occurs, you really can't trust any copy protection scheme completley, in the same way that downloading movies/music/games/programs may have some nasty something. For people with no money, there really is no option, but for those that have the money to buy whatever they are pirating, its a risk they decide to take. Do I want this song enough to possibly get a rootkit from the CD, or am I going to download an MP3 hoping that it isn't a malicious file or mislabeled? The people who sell stuff have a simple way to make buying it less risky, get rid of the shit and makes people worried. Piracy's risks are ingrained into the very nature of the activity, that risk cannot be removed completley. 2 cents.

If I was in a place that I would even feel safe taking out my laptop to look at that second screen, I would feel safe enough to just turn on the laptop. Might as well. The great part about say, a phone's second screen, is you could pull it out very quickly, take a look, and slip it back into your pocket. I don't see that being possible with a laptop, unless it's one of those tiny ones. Hey, if you could afford this, why not just get a palm?

Yup, it doesn't really matter how shiny a game is, down the line, fun is all that matters. Thats why we will always and forever see mario games (platformers, im not talking about strikers, tennis, etc). Mario, the old game, was really fun. And they've more or less fun since. (sonic, on the other hand, keeps getting worse). Guitar Hero is an amazing success, it focuses primarily on fun factor, shiny graphics are not important to the fun of the game, not really.

  19. Re:Fantastic. on Epic's Rein and the Unreal Engine's Long Arms · · Score: 1

Yeah, but it gets signifcantly easier with good documentation. I am pretty sure there'd be communities of developers for a specific engine sprining up, especially with the cluster of games now using the Unreal engine. Maybe the shorter overall development time means a lower quality product. Usually when theyr'e making an engine, they make a game to go along with it (Cry Engine, Farcry, Doom 3, Half Life 2). Then again, I guess it's no surprise my three examples are the same examples used in the summary above.

these are dark times for the modding community too. GTA, Oblivion, TheSims, those controversies popped up because of modders (nothing against modders, im one myself). It'd be interesting to see what will happen, most companies don't directly support modding, or act against it, but things might change, and they might start taking action. sad to think some irresonposible people might make modding community a bigger target.

  24. Re:Practical considerations on Wii to Launch Nov. 19th for $250 · · Score: 1

I was skeptical about the Wii controller myself. Luckily, I had the oppurtunity to attend this year's E3, and got to play a ton of games. Albeit it wasn't 40 minutes, I was there for a while, and played a lot of the games they had out, so I had my hands on the controller in many different situations. After that experience, I'm confident it won't be annoying for me, and most will find it quite fun. It all depends on what type of gamer you are, really. Are you sitting on a big leather chair, covered in cheetos, and shouting at a headset? The Wii is most likely not for you. Also, from the games I played, it isn't always a slow paced movement. Some of that stuff got intensive and crazy.
