It doesn't just have to be "death" thats the worry - it can be birth defects, future ill health etc etc. people in nagasaki/hirmoshima were getting delayed effects (10 years after the bombing) like leukemia and cancers in survivors and their descendents also developed these problems.
They should go after Uber too as its not any different to Uber surge pricing? I hate these nasty little tricks to get more money out of you and it could spread to lots of other things if not careful.
What I find perennially amusing is how, every time there's talk about the government financially supporting 'green energy' , the people who previously supported subsidies & tax breaks for nuclear power/fossil fuel suddenly become free market capitalists.;)
Nuclear is last centuries tech like fossil fuel so their subsidies should have stopped as they reached the mass market. Subsidies for renewable should also stop when its met a critical mass and is no longer a minor part of the power generation map.
"and the barriers to entry were as low for nuclear " - they are not cheap or fast to commission or decommission and the land they are built on will be useless and if another huge war erupts, you have some nice juicy targets to hit to take out all the power generation in the country fairly quickly if you are solely nuclear.
You are assuming every single car is going to be charging every single night and every car is going to have a nearly empty battery, people will either plug when necessary i.e. nearly empty or every night just for a top up. The charging can also be controlled as it can all be linked so if the draw gets too much, the grid can temporarily shutdown charging for some EVs or when Vehicle to Grid comes on line, they can draw a little from a EV connected to the grid - this is where microgrids come in handy.
And all shopping mall car parks, general car parks should be completely covered with solar panels (where possible - nice to come back to a cooler car) and chargers installed so you can top up when shopping.
They will be taxed in some way at some point in the future, just not now when they are trying to get to a tipping point in a brand new market. There are some heavy ICE vehicles out there too so tax according to weight and not power.
Why haven't they stopped fossil fuel subsidy after decades and decades of development, surely they are passed the "new tech market" by now and should have got it right by now? A new way of doing things never happens overnight, I don't understand why there is an expectation that production of vehicle with a new power train would be at the numbers level of a 100 year old industry that still gets a subsidy and bailout when they go bust.
Possibly if they were built by independent operators. if built by a fossil fuel company then not really as all fossil fuel companies are being subsidised all the time and have been for decades and decades - you think they'd got it right by now after they became a monopoly propulsion system fuel. Subsidies should only be for new stuff when trying to get it into the market.
yes, true. But Tesla made a big mistake calling it "Autopilot" as a lot of people will think that they don't have to do anything and can sleep all the way home.
Simple solution, don't use the autopilot if it bothers you. You've got to drive on the road with other drivers who are mad as hatters and cause stupid accidents and kill people - do you still drive on those roads or are you stuck at home?
It will look quite hilarious seeing 2 guys with a laptop running beside me trying to physically plug it into the onboard systems while i'm driving and then to try and hack it.
so does every car manufacturer. Check the list of recalls and failure to recall for ICE car companies over the years. These 3rd party testers came about because of the shoddy attention to detail by the manufacturers
Did it really need to take long to test. The original reports were on early versions of the car hence using earlier version of the firmware, presumably the later versions had a "fix" already so less testing was needed. And was it just configuration changes as opposed to a firmware rewrite. Hopefully more info will come out soon.
"And those things are NOT easy to get rid of safely." if you are talking about batteries then you'll find they are being recycled as they are about 96% recyclable. Nissan/Renault are recycling them into home storage batteries.
"Turn on the AC or heat in a Tesla and see what it does to the range. Cuts it by a solid 40-50%." thats complete bollox when you read comments from actual tesla drivers. Its minimal on long journeys and a bit more on short ones
Funny that, i see reports that it is a city car and has a 150+km range now. It has a Level 2 charging rate so 7 hours is fine as you'll be doing it overnight. So range and charging for this type of car is fine.

you "drove" half a mile to work? you not worked out what your legs are for? Or is that post a con-job?

Unfortunately the total nuclear proponents never ever mention commissioning/decommission costs or how the land after decommissioning would be "lovely"

Saudis are also driving hard into the renewables arena, they are not sitting on their hands and whining about last centuries tech

all your fossilised fuel is "socialised" too - and trumps aiming to do more by wanting to find a way to subsidise loss making coal and nuclear plants.
so how does that compare to Trump's new idea of subsidising the loss making coal and nuclear power stations?

There are hybrids listed below in the chart EV Sales by Brand so its looks like the used EV to cover full EV and hybrids
