Do you still have the comments from the "hidden sids" that were a feature^Wbug back long ago whereby you could get an empty page you could post to just by using an identifier not matching a story? While trolltalk and its follow-up threads are the ones I spent most time on, there were dozens of the things you could find if spent enough time reading the site, with all kinds of random stuff, one-off conversations and of course sid=signal11 and other ego threads:)
Heh, don't forget a song. Or three, in different languages. I gave up before even finishing sometime while Sam and Frodo were going through Mordor, which was the same, but with rocks. There is no way I can see myself reading any of his "less fun" books;)
Look for a book called "Debt: The First 5000 Years" by David Graeber - I've not finished reading it myself, but it supports your position I'm fairly sure.
Increased awareness amongst people and doctors leading to increased diagnosis? I'm not claiming that accounts for all of it (or even most), but it will account for a genuine increase in recorded cases even if the incidence of the condition in the population hasn't changed.
You've probably managed to hit Scroll Lock. Turning it on causes what I think you mean, and yes, for years this "feature" caused much swearing for me... well, even more swearing than Notes causes every day...
Thanks, that list was the sort of thing I like to know about a phone beforehand but normally don't have, and between you and Missing Matter you've demolished pretty much all the things I would niggle at. Contact is up in three weeks, going to get a Lumia 900 next. I don't want a billion apps, I want to be able to call people, text them, take pictures of them and post about it on Facebook.... and all that to be simple.
Thanks for the links, must've missed that the first time around. And/. is a great place to hear about things, but yes, not so much for learning about those things themselves. Still, I reckon this place is a bit less zealous than it used to be... but not by much:)
You might like Irrationality by Stuart Sutherland as well. It is amazing how many different ways in which your brain can get it wrong, and essential IMO to any hope of bettering yourself.
Ketamine is also a wonderful tool for exploring and reprogramming your thoughts, in a very different way from acid but as powerful, if not more in some situations. More existential than acid, which I found better for introspective and intuitive insights.
Have a read of The Happiness Hypothesis. It's a good summary of recent advances in thinking on happiness, and well worth a read to see if there are avenues of thought you've not tried yet. Not claiming it's some miracle cure, but very though-provoking and well-written. For me, many years of anxiety and depression were massively helped by a 16-session course of CBT which I got into via a study into managing adult ADD. Good luck with your problems, they really, really do suck, and mental health is IMO the next big stigma society will face.
No problem, Si Begg might also be something you like, although his stuff is rather erratic in quality. If you like your metal, have you ever heard of Bong-Ra?:)
I agree with your view on food company execs in the future, wouldn't surprise me a bit. But I think they'll have company when it comes. And health care in the US is not only insanely expensive as a proportion of GDP, it's the number one cause of bankruptcies and a huge disincentive to entrepreneurs starting new businesses.
I personally prefer my stuff a bit more progressive than the Goa/Israeli stuff. Headroom's album Artelligent is very good, been listening to this live set the last few days.
Ah, this ties into this article someone posted here earlier, which describes how increasing levels of education make conservatives less likely to believe in factual positions that contradict their world-view. Something which dominates the discussion here in any number of stories that involve economics, psychology, climatology or morality. As much as I enjoy reading the debates these stories engender, it's mostly in a car-crash fashion; the increasingly labyrinthian arguments really do defy any kind of rational explaination.

Oh god yes, how many descriptions of babbling brooks, hillocks and so on does one book need? Bored the crap out of me when I read it.

I use it myself, but my god the macro/command abilities are annoying. But then, I didn't own an Amiga, so it just seems shit.

Not exactly, but there is an emulator application in the Windows Phone SDK you can download.
No, just correct and annoyed.

Thank you :)
*sigh* The action for the flag is bound to the flag using jQuery, rather than hard-coded in the DOM element.

Will check it out, cheers :)

I would thoroughly recommend this book by Susskind, for both the content and the most awesome title for a popular science book ever.

Try Wagon Christ, Moderat and maybe Chris Clark if you like that sort of thing...
You might be interested in future-past.org, D2Techno and the Mastertraxx Underground Techno podcast then. Seen Speedy J a couple of times now, good DJ :)

Ah, that link describes so much of /. in a nutshell.
