Picard actually had a couple of token Aliens, between the blue guys and the ones that are some sort of parasite (The ones that manifest as a weird sort of Herpes). I can't remember their names though
Ground telescopes aren't necesarily cruddy, they just have to deal with seeing (Part of which can be rectified). Although Hubble is pretty coal, it doesn't have the resolving power of most ground based telescopes.
But I swear I'm telling the truth! The Russians attacked the west in World War 2, and they had tesla towers and mammoth tanks! You have to believe me! Even Eintsein built the chronosphere...
I've been playing around since the good ol' days of DOS and mashing F8 to play with drivers... But XP is by far the best operating system I've used. I've installed Kubuntu and Ubuntu, but Linux is incredibly annoying, and far to fiddly. I've never actually had a problem with Windows itself, only dodgy hardware. TBQH Linux isn't worth the trouble when XP works, and works well.
Sure, Engineer Tommy couldn't comprehend a vector to save his life, and whatever he builds ends up a pile of rubbish on the ground or in the ocean, but he means well!
So, the main criticisms behind Soapbox are that A) It doesn't cure cancer
B) It's from Microsoft
C) People who may know less than you will use and enjoy it
Well, you guys wouldn't be biased against MS would you? I mean, putting out a functional easy to use product and not catering to your every whim, that's just offensive!
Business isn't about making sure can have a fun and creative time. Business is about making money. If a flowery GUI helps with that, then so be it. If it doesn't, well, that's a shame. And besides, on the subject of GUI, M$ has never infuriated me to the extent MacOS and the various variants (Hoho) of Linux have.
However, the less said of presentation software the better.
Hey, at least when MS-DOS was the thing, you would actually have users with some degree of brain function. And it's a bit hard to deride the 'Windows Chauvinists' while making some sort of abject quip about the intelligence of the business community thats adopted Windows (Now, which computer makes the computer made for dummies? And yet still has how much market share?)
M$'s crappy products? Mac's lack of abject customisation of hardware and the infuriating nature of Linux (Ubuntu/Kubuntu) mean PC/Windows combination is still far ahead. I can install Windows more easily and quickly and actually have things work. And, well, the less said of the Arrogant/wanker stereotype of Apple users the better
You can't just devise a computer program to simulate an animal, and have it show all aspects of a particular test. Remember, sometimes zany shit just happens and then it's necesary to figure out why it happened and what it means. But, making the generalisation that all animal research is pointless because most of it seems to end up in private archives, well, thats going a bit far.
Although in most respects a massive bogan, he was still a great man. Hopefully, his death will not be in vain if we all learn something from his memory
Just because something takes a while doesn't mean resources or time was wasted. Sailing around the world you could lose a ship to a storm; but that's just in a sense luck of the draw.
And I don't deny that science has to be open, which is the crux of the scientific method; that every nutter can try to prove the other nutter wrong. But animal testing isn't about controlling the bad weather, but asking why, and if it applies to something else.
Just because a discovery or field doesn't have an immediate payoff is no reason to write it off completely. Remember, as Einstein was studying physics a number of scientists tried to dissuade students from the field; Their reasoning was that nearly everything in Physics had been explained away and it was unnecesary that more people enter the field. Or the Michelson-Morley experiment; Most thought it didn't mean much at the time, but it did later as the Aether model began to be abandoned. And, if the removal of the pancreas did not show an instigation of diabetes, what would the point of injecting pig insulin into people? Most people would rebuff the idea.
I'd like to introduce the point that a faulty pancreas was the cause of diabetes- I can't remember any specifics, but as I recall two scientists removed the pancreas of a healthy dog, which resulted in diabetes in the previously healthy dog, shedding light on the cause of diabetes. That's off the top of my head, so challenge if you will.
But, anyway, A means to an end my friend.
And I for one welcome our new goatse loving, sharkes with laserbeams peddling, Soviet Era Russian, Microsoft Shareholding, Vista Programming, profitmaking chair throwing overloads, who still manage to work on Duke Nukem Forever just for us, their loyal fans.
Not to denigrate any soup kitchens, shelters, etc...
But research and the furtherment of knowledge IS selfless, a benefit to the whole species. And how is the money wasted? Because it got tied up in bureaucracy? Doesn't that happen to nearly every cause?
Could you say the money put into science is wasted, just because there isn't some immediate benefit as soon as you put money in? Of course not. Putting a man on the moon may not have seemed to have some great benefit at the time, but the knowledge gained in rocketry and the processes involved were invaluable
The main reason that Islam seems to be involved with terrorism is the loss of its Golden Age, and the way Islamic and Middle-Eastern society has stagnated in nearly all respects, but especially learning and knowledge.
And you're sure there's a better place to put money than a researchers wallet?
Apart from your own of course. And if you ARE a researcher, well, that's two birds with one stone!
Awesome graphics... a 'great' story.... And it sold an assload of copies
Exactly what people said about Hitler.
And a great story is consituted of more than just Patrick Stewart. I mean, Chronotrigger had a great story, and it didn't have much Patrick Stewart at all!
The story of Half-Life 2 wasn't just the journey, it was the atmposphere; Particular the early parts were you walk around with the general populace.
And, the car and hovercraft didn't handle the same way; The hovercraft could turn and move more than the car (Especially in the air), and to my opinion the car could travel faster. But, you've got to remember that according to the physics system, they're both great big heavy lumps of metal.
GTA, all iterations, are pathetically overhyped. They offer the illusion of a 'freeform' world, but always become bogged down in a series of scripted missions that can more or less only go in one particular order. Then, we always get a samey 'story' about some gangster (Or Blaxploitation in San Andreas) and immature drug/sex/violence jokes. There are games that outdo every aspect of GTA, except they don't have to lower themselves to encouraging the player to murder civilians for no reason.
Hell, even Fable and Freelancer were better than GTA. They looked a whole lot better too, and the worlds felt like they had been crafted with care.
Picard actually had a couple of token Aliens, between the blue guys and the ones that are some sort of parasite (The ones that manifest as a weird sort of Herpes). I can't remember their names though
A) It's not infinite; There's a finite amount of matter/energy in the universe B) 0.1 x Infinity approximates infinity.

Hmmm, I'd rather more Kurt Cobain's wacked out on Heroin than cheap-arse pretentious 'artists' But that's just me

Yes, definitely terrorism. And I'm still waiting for the Americans to formally apologize for its violent secession.

A better analogy would be to dam a river with swiss cheese
