Web browsers, one of the highest level of abstraction ever acquired for application development. Great, they've been here for a long time already.
The article isn't anything else than a memory refresh.
You can't help but want to do your absolute best for Google; you feel like you owe it to them for taking such incredibly good care of you.
It's clear, good people in good mood, that's the best way to give incentives to your peers. second...
- developers are strongly encouraged to spend 20% of their time (and I mean their M-F, 8-5 time, not weekends or personal time) working on whatever they want, as long as it's not their main project.
that is, killing the pressure in a smart way, and third....
One is that Google a peer-review oriented culture, and earning the respect of your peers means a lot there. More than it does at other places, I think
that is, the respect of your peers is a KEY here, as a consequence that keeps things calm....
They intersect when a person begins pondering the effects of thier actions on the future population of the world.
It's true they intersect, but in principle, isn't by example that one starts being "mature" ?. If my parents would have said, "hey son don't worry about anything, we'll take care for this and that". Then I
could have learnt to be pretty lazy, or OTOH see they have responsibilities and take them in the future.
So if someone isn't "mature" I wouldn't blame people neither society for that. It depends on you more than anyone else, doesn't it ?
One of the most important things children have that most adults lack is a sense of wonder and discovery. The benefits are astonishing.
Well I think that's because of our daily life. Humans tend to follow different patterns which they think bring some kind of "order" to life, and those people who think in a really different way are usually treated as "freaks" by society.
It's not due to human nature that adults lack sense of wonder, but a human behavior because he/she once learnt that thinking and acting in some particular way you can get better results.
Now, it's really hard for me to define what "maturity" is after saying that. Isn't it just a learnt human behavior ?? and if it is, how can we judge people by that then ??
No single test is going to make or break your career/future.
Right!!
You should repeat that for yourself each time you're gonna take a test. It's just a "challenge" no more no less.
If you want something to worry about, it's being motivated as long as you can. Moreover consider the hare and the tortoise fable. Be the tortoise!!!
Taking a test doesn't teach you anything, it's just a way (for teachers) to prove you know. If you fail but you're sure of what you know, then, does it matter after all ?, ok big deal I couldn't show them I'm sure of what I know in 2 hours in the way they want. bahh!
At that point the company must find new developers / engineers that understand the technology, and it can take months and months for them to decipher from a code perspective how the product works
Well, in this point, I must say he's right. FOSS projects tend to have poor design documentation, and sometimes it's really hard for new devers to commit code in a relatively short period of time if at all.
yes I know, if programmers usually don't like to document code, how can you imagine they will document on design when they're not even told so ?. if that changes someday it will be a pretty good play for FOSS projects expansion and lifetime, don't you think ?
The unfortunate truth is that I can't do it "for myself". I find myself bored with every project I start on my own.
Hey, I'd like to understand what you mean when you say "bored". There are so many things you can start on your own as a geek being a self motivated person. Now, I'm seeing we have a kind of contradiction here. Perhaps you get motivated in some project but suddenly it goes "boring", it's happened to me if you refer to those cases.
IMHO as a geek with "spare time" but without new interesting ideas to spend time in, you can try to be better in what you currently do OR join a project.
Why can't a cell phone work here? Does the "instant" message need to be in text and not voice? I'll grant that it might be too difficult to teach people to text message. If that's the case, I'm pretty sure a significant fraction of them will refuse to use IM and leave voice mail.
That may be due to "conversation richness". I think text conversations make people rethink before saying anything.
It is often forgotten that, from the standpoint of an ordinary user, freedom to run a program means the program itself must be user-friendly and it must be easy to download
hmmm????
I can't find the relation yet...
Freedom is freedom and ease of use is ease of use. If a user can't/ doesn't wanna understand how to use a program... IT IS HIS CHOICE!!

That indeed is the best example one can find for a "funny && sad" thing at the same time.
me : - You should obey me,
McFly: - oh yes,
me: - bring me more coffee Mc Fly.....
Google has all your data , now it wants your Government.... oh sure. here you have.

I think its the other way round :-P

That extension is great, but if you can do it browser independent as with AJAX, it might be better for users I think.
More useful would be to right click and get a menu with different languages for translating the word I'm highlighting.

It's not due to lack of friends that someone spends much time on the internet, niether they lack friends because they spend much time on the internet.
It's just about people's interests.
You manage to find more people interested in the same things you are on the inet than in real life, just that.
cheers

If that will be the new CSS I prefer the actual one, really.
I'll take a snapshot before it's too late.
I agree.
Come on guys!!, let me join the battle the next time, please?
