    People say writing javascript is a pain. I disagree completely. Perhaps maintaining old javascript is a pain, but if you're starting from scratch it's all lovely. The problem is people can't seem to wrap their head around the "right" way to do javascript, and therefore want to program in a familiar paradigm and let some compiler whittle a square peg to fit in a round hole.

    I have both mega man 9 and geometry wars, and I think they're great. They're not comparable to games like metroid, though.

    Metroid was better as 2D. I thought Zelda was too. I can understand if they want to throw most of their weight behind 3d titles because they sell better, but I think new 2d titles of classic series would be cash cows on something like the virtual console, and cost a lot less to develop. Your only option to play good 2d games is on a hand held. No thanks, the last thing I need is to start at a 4 inch screen a foot from my face after 8 hours of looking at a computer monitor.

    Agreed, and they apparently have no interest in obese avatars. This was a serious disappointment to me. I wanted to create the fattest, ugliest guy I could, balding, not-shaven, shirt not covering belly. No luck. So instead I created a guy so emo the only thing he's missing is a knife to cut himself.

    I also tried with COD4 and that was my reaction as well - the noise reduction alone is worth it. I will be testing with fallout to see how it affects load performance.

    I'm sorry if I take a test that gives Windows and Linux the same security rating not very seriously.

    Linus himself has said that security related bugs take no precedence over any other bug. Besides, no one expects a linux fanboy to objectively rate the security of their OS, as would say, someone interested in national security.

    Linux is just as buggy and full of holes as Windows, get over it.

    Yeah I've heard this before. Must have been last week that people were bitching that Google hasn't ported Chrome to Linux yet (here on slashdot). It just seems to me that the more companies give in to the Linux community, the more they demand. It usually goes:

    Release the specs! -> Release the source! -> Port it for us!

    Okay: seriously? You and five guys you know haven't had problems, so therefore his opinion is skewed because he reads Slashdot?

    Yeah, I see a lot of seemingly intelligent slashdot readers who are very out of touch with reality, especially in regards to MS products. Obviously it's a common bias here, but certainly not representative as a whole.

    Some of the most successful business people I've met were utter morons, but OCD in a way that translated into awesome business sense. On the other hand, I've met a lot of extremely smart people who are lazy unmotivated pot heads, who let their own intelligence alienate themselves from the rest of society.

    I've had my 360 for over two years and never seen the RROD. Same can be said for the 5 other people I know who have them. People whose only exposure to the world is through slashdot have a very skewed perspective on things.

    And, to further counter your point, there is an entire generation or two of NVIDIA cards in the wild that could fail at any point, all of which ALONE cost as much as an XBOX.

    Windows 7 will be better. Simply because it's a marketing release. It is Windows Vista relaunched with proper drivers, which is what killed Vista on launch and the stigma stuck. Windows 7 will shed the stigma, and it will work out great for them in the end.

    If there is something I've learned about the slashdot crowd (and many other homogeneous online communities) it's that they aren't interested in the facts unless they support their prejudice.

    Anyone find it funny that the headline and summary is clearly biased, and not in Microsoft's favor, yet the article referenced is actually very complimentary? Stay classy slashdot editors, stay classy. I sense a bit of saltiness now that Microsoft is actually releasing good software.

    Does anyone ever get sick of the level of cynicism anything Microsoft is met with here on Slashdot?

    I fully expect to be down-modded for saying this, but I've seen sweeping improvements in Windows products as a result of open-source competition. Microsoft has seen open-source work in a proprietary OS with Apple, so I'm sure it's something they'd seriously consider for their own product.

    Wow, you sure imply a lot from a measly three sentences. I wasn't aware that anything I wrote encompassed an overall anti-capitalistic attitude. My post was specific to Apple, not capitalism, and the business practices I speak of are in regards to ridiculous DRM (as some DRM is acceptable), specifically trying to DRM shoes for their Nike+ product. Other practices include their intrusive and virus-like behavior with Apple update on Windows. I could keep going, but for the sake of overall brevity ill stop now and take some shots at your intelligence.

    Capitalism made the computer you used to type your post.

    Actually, moron, my computer was made in China. Communism made my computer you socialist pig.

    Get out of the dorm room and into the real world, kiddo.

    I own a house and, ironically, it's the college kids who live in dorms who have trendy Apple laptops that their parents paid for. To imply that since I'm bashing Apple I'm a college student is... ironic.

    How ironic that you would imply that Apple is somehow not the enemy. Their current business practices make pre-antitrust-litigation Microsoft look like Mother Theresa. The only difference I suppose being, that the Apple folks bend over and take it like a champ, and thanks to the genius marketing by Steve Jobs, actually enjoy the reeming.

    I've been very critical of linux the past couple years, and this looks like the first real step in the right direction. I was excited when Mark Shuttleworth started pouring money into linux, only to be hugely disappointed when he couldn't steer the distro in one clear and concise direction, instead having to support a million different sub-distros.

    Exactly, and Linux market penetration will reflect that. Linux will be the free, least common denominator of the OS world.

    At what point does this start to make a difference in the market place?

    Never. Never ever. Not until there is one cohesive Linux distribution to rule them all. Even its measly 1% marketshare is spread across various distros that have no standardization across the board. People who actually want to get paid for their work don't look at Linux and say, "Damn, that's a platform I want to develop for!" Not until Linux community makes it less of a nightmare to develop and support their platform.
