A couple weeks back I was talking to a good friend of mine that just finished writing his thesis, and he told me he used "la-tec" (phonetic spelling). Turns out he was referring to LaTeX. Anyone else heard this pronunciation? It was actually the first time I had heard it in a spoken reference.
gPimp is actually google's pimping product, which I prefer since it is far more open. iPimp is way too locked down, it'll only let you work with ho's that Apple has approved.
Yes, a million different things run on linux. Of course, how many things rely solely on the linux kernel? We're not talking drivers here, we're talking full apps that rely on a number of libraries, none of which are standard across the various platforms that use the linux kernel.
That's the great thing about Linux -- Choice! Like, the choice to use an operating system with a marginal market share not likely to get commercial support!
a big part of its popularity is that it's a lightweight library
Last time I checked, it was ~50kb, minified, and included all sorts of visual effects that I have no desire to use. I wouldn't call that lightweight. Why any of the visual stuff is part of the core distribution is beyond me.

then you can probably add a $230 graphics card and play all the newest things very smoothly with graphics about ~4x more complex than a PS3 or 360 can handle.
I think it would be more appropriate to contemplate FreeBSD entering the desktop market with PC-BSD. PC-BSD certainly isn't a good name from a marketing standpoint, but you'd be hard pressed to find significant features found in Linux that aren't found in FreeBSD 7. Then, consider the fact that FreeBSD includes ZFS support out of the box, and won't suffer from distro-itis, in which too many linux distributions exist that use too many different stacks/packaging systems, etc. FreeBSD is open while having a unified direction, the latter missing from the multitude of desktop linux distros.
Sorry to rain on the conspiracy theorists parade, but google has deceived nobody but those who are unwilling to understand the terms under which Android is licensed, specifically the apache license. Go read it. There's nothing deceptive about it. It
...is a permissive license that is conducive to commercial development and proprietary redistribution. Code that is distributed under the ASL and other permissive licenses can be integrated into closed-source proprietary products and redistributed under a broad variety of other terms. Unlike permissive open-source licenses, "copyleft" licenses (such as the GPL) generally impose restrictions on redistribution of code in order to ensure that modifications and derivatives are kept open and distributed under similar terms.
So really, what it comes down to, is if you decide to subsidize the cost of the phone by buying it from your carrier along with a service contract, yes -- it is closed.
It doesn't matter how much time/energy/resources went into the game. It's all about demand. It shattered WiiWare download records, which means it's heavily in demand, therefore their price is perfectly justified.
I also wondered about the brewing profile. At what level does it attentricate? What about its level of galoration? Have you considered, perhaps, that yeast this old could cause a problem with the bipalipation process?
Yeah, so what. I made it all up. I don't know shit about brewing beer.
Well, my statement was made on the premise of the most typical scenario (most typical according to what I've experienced, at least). You have anti-Microsoft guy sticking it to "the man" by using Linux on his workstation, and then spends 90% of his time just getting things to work with the Microsoft facilities. This is generally the same guy that tries to convince everybody that we need to start using Erlang or whatever trendy new thing is popular among the non-conformist nerd folk. Of course, said guy is not as bad as Apple guy, who does all the same things but asks for the company to pay for Apple hardware.
I scrolled down expecting this response from someone. I knew it would come. It's inevitable. Congratulations on being "that guy" that has to point out the fact that someone used "begs the question" in the wrong context. Which begs the question... Who fucking cares?
You're exactly right. The PS3 is an amazing piece of hardware... for running folding@home and playing BluRays. Too bad it doesn't fare so well in the gaming department. Beside the fact that it has not proven to be technically superior in the sense that it has more impressive games than the Xbox 360, the controller is antiquated. The head of their ergonomics department should be fired. Microsoft got it right with the offset thumbsticks.

gPimp, lol, sounds like an evil Apple product.

They call this diarrhea of the mouth.
GameSpot awarded Crysis Best Shooter in its Best of 2007 awards
Most of these sites also gave GTA4 a perfect score. I thought the game was rehashed crap. But then again, that is only my opinion.

You can take off your tinfoil hat now.
Still, the point is not only do you have to learn objective-c, the knowledge gained does not translate really anywhere else.
Many people already know java, and for those who don't, well there time is certainly not wasted in learning it, as it is used in so many places.

Amazing how much more you pay for an Apple logo and one less mouse button.
Not RTFA is bad enough, but apparently you didn't even bother to read the summary.
Whoooosh! Mod grandparent up for office space reference!
You just made Jesus cry like 5 times over.

I think my sexual innuendo detector just went off inadvertently.
So when you said "I have a solution" what you really meant was "I have a really high opinion of myself."
Mortal women are easy.

PuTTY. That is all.
If your job requires Windows, perhaps maybe you should, uhh, install Windows.

Are you trying to tell me that Chuck Norris is easily startled? Cuz that is FUCKING BULLSHIT.
