At what speed does electricity travel down wires and cables? Is it faster than light? From my old science classes I think I remember that those speeds may be the same. So - what's your point again?
The fact that these rovers are still working far beyond the length of time they were intended to last is remarkable in itself. That they can still be programmed to change their routine is something I find remarkable. Yes, they are simple tasks, but it is still quite an achievement.
"because you do need relationships with radio stations to give you something of value. If you don't have radio-focused personnel...you'll get the low-hanging fruit"
Why don't they just say Google needs to play the payola game. That's how radio has always worked.
The judge correctly ruled that MySpace is protected by section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. It seems there are some (or at least one) in the judicial system who understand the law. This is refreshing news.
Ba careful about posting anything that resembles a praise of Apple products here. It could bring some of this crowd to your door carrying torches and ropes.
Seriously, congratulations on your purchase, and a few of us are happy you are a satisfied switcher.
So these companies get the US government to prevent them from handing over information to a foreign government. Then, when that foreign government wants to track down a violator of their rules these companies get to play the:
Same Lame Blame Game
"There is nothing we can do to help you because our US government prevents us from doing that". Now their ass is covered and someone takes the heat for them. They want to take no risk or responsibility. Nothing new about this. Profit without liability.
I love Microsoft. I don't care how difficult they make make it for me. I will pay as much as they demand to get Vista. I will do anything they ask. You must all realize that it is not just an operating system - it is GOD. It is the only reason to live. It is more important than air, food and water. Without Microsoft there is simply no meaning to life.
Could this type of system also be used to compile a data base of people who make purchases from online stores? Could this then be used to send a bill to an individual for back taxes owed for online purchases? TFA contains few details as to how any of these government agencies has profited from this system. If all of my online purchases could be added up and then taxed then I could be in for a disturbingly large tax due bill from my state, or even from other states in the US.
Anyone know if this system has been considered for use in the United States as a means to tax online shopping?
Actually I don't like to agree with anyone. How else are we going to keep these discussions going on/.? It would be pretty damned boring without someone making arguable comments.
Please let me keep my license. I don't want to end up on Ars Technica!!!
I don't like to agree with Lessig but in this case I feel I must. Congress will go the way the money and influence leads them, and I fear this will not be in the best interest of the internet user and consumer. Corporations will eventually have things their way - the way that will produce the best quarterly profits and earn them the most power and control.
"they force people to pay over $150 for the kind of OS service packs which Microsoft has been giving away for free..."
Here we go again. This always comes up. Can you please post links to documentation that supports that statement? Please show me where these Apple service packs are forced on Apple computer users. Just one time I would like someone to show me this is a fact.

"Perhaps... however, people carrying wired up circuit boards in public places isn't common."
Radios, phones, iPods, PDAs, portable computers, walkie talkies, portable DVD players..........
Nope - nothing common to carry. That's some really scary shit, man !!!
This idea will work about as well as a butt plug would to stop explosive diarrhea.
(not that I have tried that !!!)

Now just be quiet and send them money.

Now that hurts. I'm still writing a drawing application in Applesoft Basic on my IIC.
"What's providing the forward motion that allows for air to flow that direction?"
Natural gas from a rear exhaust?
"you were once young and living with your parents (hell, you probably still are)"
Nope, we didn't have a basement, but my kid does lives in my basement now.
What if some of those kids end up here on /.?
We could be doomed!
Now Google will be serving up advertisements on Uranus.

"allow it to respond to petting"
Could they maybe make one of those attractive robotic girls that does this? It would make the perfect companion for the average slashdot reader.
Minority Report
jbrader = we have a winner
This sounds like something right out of a Hollywood movie. I seem to remember that it didn't work out exactly as planned.
Nobody thought it was serious and nobody thought it was funny. It was just bad.
I said I was sorry for you. What more do you want?
You seem to have no idea where to direct your anger. I am sorry for your confusion.
