I thought these problems ended years ago when the year of the linux desktop came and everyone stopped using windows... You mean there are still poor souls out there that don't use linux or mac?
Linux is a community. To be communism, there has to be a government involved. For example, I can give away possessions (code) to other people, but I'm not required to give all of my possessions away just because I use Linux.

They are just feeling threatened the blackberries are going to hurt the huge grape market in France... They should let all the fruits have a chance and prove themselves by their own merit... Oh wait... not that kind of blackberry...
Funny, I could have sworn that last ubuntu install detected all my hardware without any input from me, and even auto mounted my external hard drive. Matter in fact, my sound just worked, as opposed to windows xp where I needed a driver disk... I guess it must just have been a dream... Who needs millions of text editors when you can just use vi?
Who wants to go spelunking in Summer 2010 (we should have some way to get there by then...)? I got a rope, anyone have mars suits we can use? I'm planning on getting a job as a sysadmin on the first human inhabited mars spaceship for my transportation to get there. If anyone else is interested, I'm sure they'll need janitors and cooks to come along!

I have no opinion on file sharing. I don't do it, and stick to free software, but your "logic" is completely illogical.
You say because society says murder is illegal, and we know murder is wrong, then because file sharing is illegal, by definition of illegal it is wrong.
Well... lets say society says venerating icons is illegal (read up on the iconoclasts and the 7th ecumenical council). Does this make it inherently morally wrong to kiss icons? Am I somehow damaging the society or myself by venerating an icon? What if I put an icon of the Holy Theotokos on my wall so it's seen whenever I enter the house? Does this make it inherently wrong?
The answer as stated by the 7th ecumenical council is a resounding NO! (See this page for further details)
There are also other categories, like civil rights movements, holocaust, etc...
You can't equate one law deeming something illegal to equate that act to being wrong. Inherently there are things that are wrong.
There is nothing wrong with being a martyr... Anyways, what is this money you speak of? It doesn't cost me anything to defend myself, and no I don't want the corporations big wig lawyers... I'm in the right in this situation. Microsoft is refusing to charge me with anything more than vapor gas (You're infringing on one of our patents, but we can't tell you what it is...). In all honesty this is defamation of my name. It hurts my business because potential clients see that I suggest LINUX and they get scared by Microsoft's FUD! So bring on the lawyers, I'll take them all single handedly and then when they lose, it will be the biggest embarrassment for them not to lose to a team of lawyers, but a person with no law background whatsoever...
Bring it on Microsoft!

100% of the failure of linux is that it doesnt do anytthing (thats sort of an intelligence test, if you argue that linux does do something, you fail)
Well, I don't know how I failed that test... I guess being my router, my media/tv computer, my dev machine, my kitchen computer (for the recipe database), as well as running on every laptop/desktop I own to get things done counts as failure of linux. I guess I'll just have to go back to my Atari 800... And what driver is it exactly that's lacking on my 20 computers?
Microsoft's refusal to prove they are infringing on open source patents is hurting my business. I have customers scared of linux lawsuits now that were rather happy a year ago. So, I'm going to do what everyone except the trolls on this forum want to do, but don't have the guts to try. I'm going to sue Microsoft and represent myself. So, any tips how I file a defamation lawsuit against Microsoft? I'm going to make them burn!
It doesn't just hurt the rich. I ran a small business in State College, PA for 2 years, netting 18K Gross Income (income, not profit), and tax law the way it is made it difficult for me to continue to do business. Now granted, to put things in perspective, I am a full time student, so 18K is fairly decent amount of work to do on the side, but after 10K of expenses, 8K isn't enough for even a student to live on (after tuition, that leaves 4K for rent/food/gas). I'm not saying the rich shouldn't have to pay their share (however, I do strongly push a definitive tax, ie. a fixed percentage no matter what income one makes), but we definitely need some kind of reform so living the American Dream can be a reality without fearing what the IRS is going to do to you if you forget a 0 somewhere...
All this employee protection crap is bull shit. An employer should be able to hire/fire anyone they want without having to go through a bunch of red tape. Same thing with unemployment. There is no reason that an employer should ever have to continue to pay someone they fired because the person is too lazy to get off their butt and find a job. Come on, enough with employee rights, where are our employer rights... And don't get me started on the double taxation that happens with self employment tax. This country needs some serious reform in the way we run businesses. Citizens should be encouraged to start a business in something they enjoy, not discouraged with the threat of having to pay someone unemployment pay because they do a shitty job and you don't want them to work for you anymore.
So, back to the story, why is googling someone illegal? If I'm an employer, yes, I want to know what other employers have though of this person. There is no reason their should be any laws against researching the person you are hiring.
You can stick with your PC as long as you run Linux. For in the book of Linus, Chapter 4, Verse 2, "For Linux is the way of the slashdotter. For those not using Linux primarily will be cut off from the computer and will perish in the perils of the Evil One, being forced to upgrade from now till all eternity..."

*WARNING* The above is satire/comedy, not heresy. LAUGH!
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime. I'm a comp sci major, and work with a bunch in the same field, all of us LINUX users that know how computers work and have very little experience with "Using" Windows, happen to be the same people all of our non-comp sci liberal arts majors that just want to get things done ask questions about guess what, their windows programs:-P The interface is nothing if you understand the concepts of what you're doing. If you take the time to learn an interface, then when the new interface comes out (ask Office 2007 people what they think of the new interface compared to the old) you have to relearn the interface. If you learn the concepts of how to do something, the interface is just a tool for getting things done. In addition to that, other than the gimp/photoshop differences, most open source software works very similar to the windows counterparts.
Some of the microbrews in America are just as good if not better than their European counter parts. Yes, American Light is a crap beer but try a nice Troegs Hop Devil or Expedition Imperial Stout.
It's an issue of space. The live cd doesn't contain the actual packages, it actually installs the system thats on the live cd. To include package files, you would need the equivalent of everything on the alternate cd, which is why the alternate cd is required. This is also the reason I prefer to install from the alternate cd.

lets see... Ubuntu Laptop Debian Server at House 1 (too much of a hassle to bother upgrading when all it runs is ssh/screen) Ubuntu Server at House 2 Ubuntu Server at Colo Data Center Ubuntu on Media computer (freevo) Knoppmyth on other media computer (mythtv of course) - May possibly be upgraded to ubuntu in the near future Ubuntu Desktop at House 2 debian laptop at house 1 (no battery left, 1998 thinkpad) netbsd 486 router at House 1
Should I keep going? And updates to debian/ubuntu computers are automatically done/w error checking script that e-mails me if I have to intervene. When a new release comes about (once every 3 years for deb, 6 mo for ubuntu), it takes about 5 mins per computer to get them all upgraded. This isn't including my work computers/computer I manage at work, just personal machines.
Really? I find the opposite. I find ubuntu to be a distro I can give to anyone, and they can figure out how to do almost anything they need to do on it. Then when I want to get to work, I can install fluxbox/aterm/dev libs/etc... And can do things the hard way without the hassle of getting the dependencies I need installed thanks to my good friend apt...
Now my question for you is what specific things are in Mandriva that make it easier for you to get things done than in ubuntu?
Off Topic, but I have to say that is the best sig I've ever seen.

If you like IDE's try out openldev (openldev.org). It's written by the author of Foundations of GTK+ Development.

I know this is supposed to be a joke, but...
a) Who reads mail as root?
b) Who cd's out of their home directory before running a mail command?
c) Who has a webserver with a mail client on it?
d) Who has successfully gotten apache working without knowing basic UNIX commands, like rm?
Ok, I'm laughing, hahaha, very, very funny...
