You're not looking for love in the first 6 months, though it might happen.

But what you will get is a lot fitter, stronger, a lot of exposure to the opposite sex, and chicks really dig guys who can dance.

Dancing is a means to an end, but it's also a huge amount of fun... after you get past the "horribly unco-ordinated stage" which geeks go thru.

Ok, so it's not guarranteed to find you love. But get fitter, get more attractive through learning new skills women like, and get more exposure to women... It's all going to improve your odds.

    I agree, totally inaccurate conclusion.

One of the things that bugs me about Firefox's advertising is they base some of their growth figures on the number of downloads. They don't release patches to their code, though, so every time they release a fix, it's time to download the whole program again.
Before I stopped using it, I'd downloaded it at least 5 times. Way to fiddle the numbers!

Anyway, Opera went free, and I changed in a flash.
I also moved over several friends and family members to Opera, where before, I told them not to go to firefox, because it just wasn't good enough yet. IE's market share just dropped a bit, right there.

Love tabbed browsing, hate the clunkiness of firefox, and the missing features, and all those sites that just won't display properly.
With Opera, the only browser flaw I've found so far is the htmlarea in zencart doenst' display. Oh, and of course, activeX controls don't go, - so MS have ensured I'll keep IE around a while longer. There's only one website that's causing me a problem with, so now I'm pretty happy.

I bought 2 initially, one 6 feet long for big movements, and one about 2 feet long, that's good for spinning around your fingers. The small one's also good for practising inside, with some care. Between the two, I get a decent wrist / forearm workout without doing that nasty exercise stuff. (I'm allergic to exercising. Stuff that's fun is not exercise. :) )
This is not to say you can't get a decent aerobic workout while spinning fire, once you start moving the staves around more, you exercise most of the body.

It's important to use both hands, and train both sides, cos once you get better, you'll be wanting to swap across and you really really don't want to grab the burning bit. Oh, one thing I should say - you have to practice with the sticks unlit, and only once you aren't touching the wicks against your clothes, and aren't dropping it, then think about lighting it.
Being burnt isn't fun, and more importantly, it's usually someplace that you use to spin the stick against :)

One last thing - my mouse wrist still clicks and grinds so I guess it's not a perfect cure - but now there's no pain. That's enough for me. (And did I mention chicks dig it? ) *grin*

I think there are a few points that you are missing.

Firstly, you're focussing on the current price of power - and that's going up every year.

Secondly, you include the construction price of the windmill, but not the connection price of the electricity. Where I live, if your house is more than a couple of hundred meters away from the nearest power line, the power company will charge tens of thousands to hook you up.
It's often cheaper to install an off-grid system than to pay for the power line install.

Thirdly, there are people out there that think getting off the grid is a good idea. They might be doing it for security of power supply, they might be doing it because they'd rather use renewable resources than support a coal-fired generating plant, or similar idealistic reasons. Some are prepared to pay a premium to live according to their ideals.

Even assuming your calculations are correct, if someone told me I could be off-grid, clean and green by paying $500 a year more for my power than I do now, I'd jump at the chance. That's
    great !

I did microbiology and genetics at Uni.

In bacterial cultures, it was fairly straightforward to select for resistance to a given antibiotic.
You put a bit of antibiotic into the agar, and the colonies that survive got transferred to an agar with a higher concentration of the antibiotic. And so on, until either a level was reached where none of the strains would grow, or they were completely resitant. Pretty cool stuff :-)

By this stage, we had usually got a strain totally resistant. Then came the interesting bit.
We took the antibiotic out of the growth media, and grew several more generations. It took us quite a while, from memory, we spent a whole term working on this experiment.
At the end, we took those colonies, and put them back on several different strengths of the antibiotic. The vast majority of the colonies had lost their resistance - without a force in the environment to select for it, it was lost from teh population.

The same thing will happen for genetically engineered species, (eg roundup resistance) If there's no force in the environment to select for it, then the genes will disappear.
