I paid the police to escort me back to retrieve my belongings. I am not criticizing when I say that it may have been better for you (and potential future victims) if you had reported it. Your choices are your own and I am in no position to judge. Thus the statement is my own thoughts as to what I would suggest if asked. I don't call the cops when there are issues. I did bring one with me to ensure I was not blamed for anything when I retrieved my belongings but I had to pay his salary to get him to do so. It took a half hour but they demand a full hour minimal so it was $35, nothing major.
And even your article shows that men are more likely to inflict serious injuries or use weapons.

I had a Mustang's 5.0L dropped into my 82 245 (not as uncommon as one might think - it is a great sleeper). It was loads of fun. I used to drink and drive and was doing so in the winter one night. The snowbank and ensuing rollover made it no longer fun. I no longer drink. I had to choose between driving and drinking. As I live many miles from anything, well, I drive. In a week I managed to ruin quite a bit. That was my motivation to stop. I probably should have quit in a rehab or a hospital as I had been drunk pretty much constantly for many years. Oh well, I lived. Additionally, about the only thing I'd hit out here would be a moose. Drunk driving is like a local sport here which I really enjoyed when I moved here. I was good at drinking, good at driving, but one day I suddenly was no longer good at doing both. It was an expensive week (technically 8 days).
That'll keep those damned blacks from breeding! (Partially black here - I jest. Sadly I have to add that as some may think I am serious. Amazon needs to sell sarcasm meters.)
Also I have no statistics to back up my assumptions so I base my beliefs on what I hear on television or read online not accounting for the fact that they are the attention because they are, Occam's Razor, the exception.

As an aside, my family were slaves in the Dominican Republic, this is actually the more interesting (in my opinion) side of my much varied ethnicity, and the British brought them to fight in the Revolutionary war. They promised freedom and this promise was made in the name of the King. At the end of the war George Washington did not want to let them leave but the Brits already had them loaded on three ships in the harbor. They ran the attempted blockade and took them to Nova Scotia and dropped them off where they married into the Micmac tribe and stayed for quite some time (still there) while some came to seek their fortune in New England. My point being, well, the Americans don't owe me anything other than the rights afforded me due to the Constitution. I get better treatment in Canada anyhow and, as a dual citizen, I can move there and have been thinking about it for a while now. It could be (and is) worse - on the other half I am related to the Prescott family which makes me rather unhappy. Neither Canada nor Britain owe me anything as well. I was not "there" or harmed in any way. I have had fair treatment. So, no, any faults I suffer are of my own creation.
I was unable to find a study that supported that side though I knew that I had read the opposite (like the one you linked) view in the past. I also think that I followed the link from a comment here. The one you link is not the same though but reaches similar conclusions. My guess is the data can be interpreted either way depending on how you choose to view it.
I thought that too and recall a study (from a comment on this site - I am near certain of this being the source of the link and I am certain about the study's conclusion in the abstract) but I decided to verify this and do some searching. I can not find the original study that I read but I did find this and a number of other studies that support that economics and education are insignificant. Needless to say, I am surprised with this (and others) study's conclusion but I can not argue with their definitions, methodology, or conclusions. I concede the point as I am unable to find the original study that I read the abstract from. The study itself was behind a paywall so I would likely still concede, even if I could find it, as I am unable to see the full study and at least check the methods and data source(s).
