Though it may not best way to hide my online "tracks" at work, I use a USB stick with portable apps. No data stays on my work machine. I am sure it could be detected, but considering our IT staff, for the most part, are less knowledgeable than myself I doubt they will ever know. Now don't get me wrong I am not browsing porn...I simply read slashdot and maintain some other forums. Not likely to find any illegal stuff on my stick anyway. I was once told that we were not allowed to clear our cache! Which I promptly started doing. They have recently informed us that they are going to be using a disk imaging application to monitor our usage...but I suspect it will not be set to monitor removable drives... If anyone has any tips...let me know:)
"get more wireless vendors on board with the Linux movement"
That just about says it all...in the next paragraph he gives very good advice...use a wireless card based on the Atheros chipset...add madwifi drivers...done. I have a laptop with a built in broadcom that would not work with ndiswrapper...I have learned that these laptops have a "hardware switch" to turn it on or off which is not supported in linux...For my Acer there was a project in development but I never got it to work. Since we linux users have some spare cash (not buying windows)I bought a Atheros based DLink AirExtreme G650 which worked great with my laptop.
Time to stop crying about it and deal with it....yes, that means if you want to run linux look at what hardware is supported...also reading up on the subject would help. It is fine to complain about hardware that is not supported...but keep in mind it is not a level playing field when one side has all the tools made just for them. Linux developers are working on it but it takes time when hardware companies will not give allow developers full access to information. Linux has come a long way despite the roadblocks and it is a secure and stable OS, unlike the great MS.
"belief in a power greater then ourselves is not about logic." Nor are the comments of the liberal, irresponsible, emotion pandering, baby killing and Godless left which will follow.
All these folks jumping on your comments are just showing that they do not understand the concept of God(you need to ask what is God first) nor do they understand themselves. The article makes a good point as to how people continue to believe things that just aren't true...like what Democrats and/or Liberals have been telling us for years...which still gets repeated by "so called" educated young people of today.
"The standard response to "user" issues is: Well, why don't YOU write the patch / app / whatever."
That is not the standard response!
The standard response is to join a support forum (there are forums for most linux distros)
Other responses:
*google it with linux google (google.com/linux)
*look up the application webpage and read documentation
*look at man pages
*report the problem to bugzilla
*join your distro's mailing list
*buy a book
Hey we are used to FUD...but if you don't know don't comment.
"We beseech the Administration to work with us to nominate someone whom Democrats can support and America can be proud of"
uhhh...ok that means in order to get Democratic support you have to make sure that the nominee will blindly follow the liberal/democrat view on everything...I thought we were looking for a experienced nominee...who is fair...educated...intelligent...etc..etc..etc.
Why not nominate someone all "Americans can be proud of"..period?
I can see you have your liberal blinders on...certainly Gonzales hasn't been able to do anything in his official capacity, because the liberal propaganda machine has not let him do it. Were all the fired Attorneys liberal Democrats?...why are you so sure there was wrong doing going on?...
All Presidents have the right to do this and most do when they take office. So Bush waited then fired them...why is that wrong?
You are not only uninformed...you are a branless mouthpiece for the liberal moverment in this country...It is a movement that is intended to make distrust the enemies of liberalism...when in reality liberalism is a cancer....and the problems it claims to cure will never end and will continue to grow.
Time will tell, won't it?
Ok, I am actually shocked by the anti-Acer and anti-Gateway posts...I personally think that these are 2 of the best computer companies in recent history. Who makes a better machine? Dell, Compaq, HP, Packard Bell? Please, I don't think so... I would rather build my own machine and have. I also still have my first computer, an Acer Acros P75 (about 15 years old), still works fine...I have a Gateway(about 6-7 years old)...with upgrades I did it still works fine too. My Acer laptop is also in great shape, you will note that Acer has been building laptops longer than anyone. I have several others that are local shop builds...all in good shape. Why have I not had problems? hmmm...I don't know, I treat my machines right, I clean them regularly, I use the proper components when I upgrade...I service all my own machines which may be a more important factor in owning a computer than the brand...but then I have always thought that it was important to learn how things work and to how to fix them when they don't.
I think this purchase will only be good for all concerned!
ahhh...but when you add someones politics to the mix, that's where the error comes in. I too suspect that runoff and pollution to be a bigger factor than warming. Looking at graphs of global warming and cooling (yes it exists TOGETHER, has been going on for 100s of thousands of years!)the temperature range is about 2 degrees either way. So this is killing coral? I find that to be a little misleading. Granted temperature change could be part of the cause to this problem, but temperature change has been going on for 100s of thousands of years. It is in a cycle...look at graphs of CO2 vs Temp, it is pretty obvious.
I have seen reports of a disease called "white plague" that is responsible for the death of coral in the Caribbean. Other studies blame wastes that are pumped into the ocean without treatment. Still other studies in the Pacific indicate that the earth is losing coral at the rate of 1% per year, and at this time Pacific coral is 50% of what it was before. OK, that means this started about 50 years ago?
I don't want to start a flame war here...but lumping everything as a product of Global Warming is isn't productive when you don't also explore other causes and/or cures. It has become such a political movement that people are closing their minds to any other cause or solution.
Creationism and evolution can co-exist...the real question is what is God? and when did His/Its/the influence stop and when did evolution take over. Or is all of it considered "God"? Is God the "big bang"? Is God an event or being? Did this God's influence begin with Earth or before then?
Your argument suffers from your poor examples...which you imply have been used to support creationism...they support neither your or a creationist point of view. No creationist has ever said that pointed tooth dinosaurs ate plants, and why would they? What does it help them prove? You need to understand the root of the question before you can answer its permutations.
So in summary, we need to know what happened a lot longer ago than the age of dinosaurs...so I guess we will never know.
I am certain you do not have a grasp of the answer nor the question.
Just goes to show you that most musicians and entertainment people are just full of shit..just because Elton doesn't use a computer or cell phone, I am sure his huge staff is very well connected. He also shouldn't be talking about the state of music, as others have said, there is too much crap being released. Further more, Bernie Taupin helped or wrote most of his hits, buying talent like that seems to be kinda "cold and impersonal" to me....
The larger picture here is that the famous and rich entertainment types have very little experience in the real world and expect the rest of us to follow them because they can write/sing a song. The fact that they are usually liberal idiots supports the fact that they have so little real experience.
Nothing new in his opinions, I have heard the same for quite a while... but Ubuntu for power users? That is a joke! Or a newbie mistake...which I conclude is the case.
The company stating that the computer uses Redhat Fedora makes think this is a scam all the more...
As good as this sounds (sounds too good IMO) I am not gonna bite....
Comon now!...I have know this for at least 30 years! Anyone with a little common sense should have at least guessed that this was true...you certainly don't need a computer to figure it out. Make sure all your checkers are 2 deep at all times..you can't be jumped...duh!
I think this is just the beginning of the end for all VOIP companies...price is low but service sucks. The service will never get better and the customers will begin to drop the service...give it about a year or two......I say good riddance!:)
You have a point there...I have downloaded and installed the last 2 versions of Ubuntu and I did not find it to be to my liking. I have killed both installs by using apps from the universal repositories. I think the poor implementation of "sudo" dilutes the security of the OS...it is trying to be too easy in my opinion. The problem is that the "average" user does not want to learn how linux works, they want it to work like windows...which is the biggest fault of any distro can make for the linux user. All computer users need to learn how their OS works, whether it be windows, mac or linux. Without doing this, these folks will never be able to use the full potential of their computer, nor will be able to recover from problems. I use Fedora 7, Fedora Core 6 and Debian 4.0 on my 3 machines and all were easy to setup, yes even easy enough for the new linux user...as long as he/she is willing to ask a few questions and read some documentation. It does not take a IT Professional or computer genius to run linux, but it does take a reasonably intelligent person or at least one who is willing to learn.
Yup, that what it seems like. They have already taken the state for about 200-300 million dollars and produced a bug riddled and clumsy interface that is not ready for use.
I have been asked to help consult on making it usable...but then starting over is not an option:(
I know I am ranting here, but this story goes much deeper than it appears...politics, money and kickbacks are certainly part of the issue.
It really is easy to pick out the socialist assholes...there are a few more in this thread. :p
hey you forgot the "/sarcasm "...didn't you?

Agreed it is rather confusing application...but it does give you a very humbling view of our galaxy in relationship to the the rest of the universe. :)
Another application you might try is Digital Universe by the Hayden Planetarium...

Available for Windows and Linux...

*clap clap clap*
All corporations in the US should follow this example...Netflixs has earned a lot of karma for this!
uhh...that's what happens when you try to make your linux distro work like windows....
read my post, you obviously stopped reading after the first sentence.
Thank you...:) that is something I will look forward to...
