Hardware is the only thing ATi can make with any degree of competency. Their software is abysmal. And since you can't use PC hardware without drivers, their hardware also becomes abysmal.
I've seen Windows users literally throw away a working 9600XT just because of the WinME-quality drivers. The card's on my shelf right now, in fact. (my MX400 is fast enough)
That'd only help when they're idle and already using up ~100W. Having them turned on 24/7 instead of just on standby leaking current won't help a thing, plus consoles were never designed to run for that length of time.
A PS2 owner goes into a game shop with £150 just after they start taking preorders.
On the wall behind the counter is a big, glossy PS3 propagan^Wpreorder poster. Pay £150 now, get nothing for a month. On the left are shelves of new Wii consoles + game for £150. On the right there's new and used X360s for £150 or less.
You can probably guess what happens. If not you'll just have to wait 5 months to find out.
As a user with a broadband connection, I don't really give a damn either way since none of that crap loads in my browser without my explicit permission. What really pisses me off are brain-damaged sites that use JS/cookies/infinite redirects where a hyperlink would get the job done just as well.
Nope, there's a working r300 driver in CVS. I had Nexuiz running with it two days ago, constant 60fps at 1280x1024 (although turning on HDR makes it choke). On the other hand it doesn't have EXA support so Composite is painfully slow.
Stop whining. Winamp 3 is open source, and you completely ignored it anyway.
Maybe they've got 9 other Es that we don't know about. Extort?

Just the other day I found out it doesn't work in XGL. Which really sucks :(
Since creating life is obviously more illegal than destroying it in the US, why are only the murderers sentenced to death?

You forgot #3: The AC-DC transformer. With the size of the one on the 360 I'm not surprised it wastes so much.
Obligatory link
Because he's getting large sums of money to do so publically
I knew it! Vista's going to open a portal to hell.

So what's your excuse?
Didn't the old Itanium have something like 9MB of L2? Wow.
Last time I checked, Google was at 2.1 already.
The only Sony hardware I trust is a PS1 since it physically lacks the ability to phone home.

You can play Quake 3 using only free software and a 9600XT, you can't with a 7800GT.
They screwed it up with the new layout. It used to work fine for me too.
Actually that'd be a great idea, if not for the problem that those sort of idiots could then guess your password on the first try.
AGP is 6MB/s read, IIRC. I'm probably wrong, but the number was definitely less than a PCI bus.
Why bother with something mundane like "database benchmarks"? Most games on linux (even the closed source ones) can run in 64-bit.
am screaming in horror at this.
Damn.
:)
In my defense, in C that wouldn't be a 1-byte number so we're all wrong
Incorrectly uppercasing first letters of syllables tends to make you look as clueless and illiterate as you would by uppercasing every second letter.
