They will make profit anyway. And they have been making more profit than the others by using something for free and asking money for it.

This is sort of like deciding whether to commit a crime or not. If you get only to pay for it it'st just matter of having enough money.

It would be interesting to see what the ethics would be if the executives were personally responsible.

    Where's the topic?

Besides the concert organizer skipped the payment (and paid). Deep Purple didn't pay anything.

Right societies around the world demand compensation from concert promoters for the music performed. The artist is paid first for the performance (promoter pays) and for the music they play (promoter pays, 10% taken by rights society). The payment for the rights society (of which artists are members) is for their services of tracking the usage of artists' music worldwide - the societies' mission is to protect the artist, so in this case they demanded the promoter to pay so that Deep Purple is rightfully compensated.

That's what the article you linked says too.

The situation in Russia may be a bit underdeveloped (and one should follow if the society forwards the money to Deep Purple) but it's not that different from the rest of the world.

The reason why the brand names are so easily mentioned is that they are something new.

There's really no difference in saying 'Mike from Lond told us' and 'Mike from London tweeted (or send a Facebook message)'

It's sort of self-appreciation to mention the brands; you are proclaiming that you are part of the new wave and your media is up-to-date. That's a bit delusional, because most up-to-date media handle the new information sources like they are. Besides when the first excitement is over the media begins to look old if they keep on using the same brand ridden phrases. It'd seem to be wise (and timeless) to treat the new sources as another ways of communication than especially emphasizing their names.

Facebook and Twitter etc can easily be called together as social media, which is part of the news making and gathering today. Actually media today is social as a whole, and there are many means to be in contact in real time. This ban is about commercialisation of the news and not about the contact details given later on the stream.

I think the move is justified and you missed the point.

The more equal the women are to the men the less children they will have. The more options available the more they are used by the women to control the fertility rate. It's tragic how much religion dictates the policies about the issue. The inevitable result of family planning projects and education is a falling fertility rate. It's actually pretty hard to find a country where the rate is going up.

Rationally sharing the resources doesn't mean that the fertility rate will be sustained or go up. The reason why the rates are up is because of the lack of knowledge.

Sure, but banning arms exports would be a great beginning.

France for example sold weapons to Rwanda genociders while the atrocities were on-going, so banning exports would provide a clear argument against atrocities and their cheerleaders. Pretty much all who could sold weapons to Gaddafi. You are saying that Africa is the prime example of brutality when in fact the outsiders have historically done most of the killings (Belgium killed millions in forced-labor camps in Kongo for starters) and provided weapons and manipulated politics.

The only reasonable way to argue for arms exports is to argue for the industry's economic impact, but humanely that's not really wise.
