In some states, like mine, a drivers license is NOT a legal id. It is strickly a license for driving, and only must be presented in that form. You are required to carry an offical id when NOT on your own property (aka social security card, state issued id, military id, other offical id's).

Until the RedHat SCO case goes to trial, and gets a judgement, Microsoft will keep spreading FUD. Only after has this been ruled on, with a amount of fine, that is GREATER then Microsoft is willing to pay, will it stop.

As said in the article, they are awaiting Linux Distributors (not including themselves), to come to the table, to sign a reverse (not where they paid, like they did to Novell), licensing deal. If you can understand that sentence, then you can understand Linux, and know it will be a LONG wait.

  13. can't file a complaint 24/7 at a 24/7 store? on NH Man Arrested for Videotaping Police · · Score: 1

"Gannon wanted to lodge a complaint against Karlis, who had come to the family's house while investigating their sons, Janet Gannon said. She said Karlis showed up late at night, was rude, and refused to leave when they asked him." So, the police (open 24/7) can operate at all hours, and expect you to only operate (file complaint, from 9 to 5)? KCTV 5 Kansas City did some investigation similar, to see how hard it was to get a complaint form (following posted proceedures) and got arrested. Any good lawyer will say, as they are public servants (no right to privacy while on his property) he had signs posted, and they failed to allow him to complain, and he will end up with money from the city (and them if he did his cards right) for false arrest, and imprisionment.

  17. Making the Switch on Can Ordinary PC Users Ditch Windows for Linux? · · Score: 1

I grew up with my fathers XT, my brothers old Timex Sinclair 1000, his new Atari 800, friends having Commodores, trash 80's, coco's, Amiga's, and even Apples. So I have switched several times. There is always learning curves in the switches, and there is always problems with getting things to work. Even Windows have compatibility issues. Time, knocks those out for him, not an argument.
But for me, the argument seems to boil down to how computer literate the users, already are. IMHO, the less literate, the more people rely on Proprietary formats. How many users email wmv/wma attachments to their friends (let's not get into security here). By default, people don't want to be sued, so those non open formats, cause troubles with distributing and running programs, for what seems the average user. If it weren't for that, I could change my mom's PC to Linux. As is, I would have to change all here friends, reteach them, and then try to replace some propritary programs, that some are required to use.
Linux is not for everybody, it IS all about choice. Some people choose not to choose, they want to blindly follow, so they can concentrate on other things.
I choose Linux, I like control.
